Cardinals eliminated from Division race - Cubs do the job

A lot of Cardinals fans remind me of this guy...

He just wanted the to make sure the Cub fans could read it.
 
I don't think LaRussa is holding the Cardinals back, but he's definitely set in his ways and those ways saw our best young hitter (Rasmus) traded away. I love LaRussa, but his time should be coming and I kind of personally hope he retires within the next 2 years.

With two of the top three pitching prospects coming up the farm system in the next couple of years (Shelby Miller and Carlos Martinez), the Cards need to start planning for the future and LaRussa is no spring chicken.
 
TLR is pretty much a lock to managing (somewhere) next season. He's only about a couple months worth of wins from 2nd on the all time list which I'm sure means a lot to him. That's reason #1 of why he'll be managing next season. I do believe it'll be with the cardinals because his last contract had an option on it after this season that I believe will be exercised. If Albert is signed I don't think there's anyway Tony even thinks about walking away from the cardinals next season. But that's next season...we are in the playoffs and have more important matters ahead. It's interesting how the cubs fail at everything...they can't even properly kill off the "dying" cardinals. Can they do nothing right? :lol:

I'll take a happy rzepsqkifeigwski (sp) and Craig (Not just because he is on fire right now) and Jay over Rasmus anyday....except I wish Craig batted LH and could play CF.....lots of iffs but I don't miss Colby

It's not as if Colby was taking at bats away from Craig, it's just Jay's ceiling is much lower then Rasmus's offensively and the Cardinals have had a real big problem with developing their own offensive players for a long time now. (Edmonds, Rolen, Holliday, Berkman were all from other teams)

Rasmus has some good power numbers for a center fielder, and that's such a rare combo.

I know the help starts in the minors but I have not heard to many people going out of their way to praise McGwire. Especially national media. If Tony retires or leaves I don't see the Cardinals retaining him.

There have been multiple national stories on Yahoo! and such about Mark's help with Holliday and how he helped revitalize Berkman's career, but your end game is correct, Big Mac won't be back if LaRussa leaves. Dave Duncan probably wouldn't either, which is by far the biggest blow for the Cardinals whenever LaRussa leaves.

But since Pujols had Yadier came up, the Cardinals have struggled mightily to find bats in their minor league system, so someone isn't doing their job well.

Your right. I have seen a couple stories about his helping Holliday. I must have missed the Berkman articles. I was mainly commenting on the lack of prospects that the Cardinals have developed through their minor league system.

Every team in the system has their own hitting coach. But during spring training and fall instructional league all big league coaches share their beliefs and thoughts on how to teach hitting with all the minor league coaches. Their is also communication during the season between all the coaches, GM, and farm directors. If McGwires methods are being taught, it isn't producing a lot of good young hitters. I just don't see the young prospects being developed. I also feel it is hard for a guy who was a power hitter to fully understand and teach what it takes to be a good 'batting average" hitter.

The still-ever-slowly dying cardinals make the NLCS. I'll take this kind of baseball death every single season. Once again, thank you Cubs for failing to get the job done like usual.

Rasmus? Craig? Freese? Jay? What team have you been watching? The Cardinals very much have been relying on talent they have brought up. I don't know what you expect from a farm system, but they don't produce all-stars every year. The only team who has had any more considerably more production from their home-grown players (ya know, excluding Pujols and Molina, two All-Stars) is the Rays, and they are the exception not the rule. Sure some of people come and go via trades etc. but the Cards consitently use and thrive on homegrown talent.
