I did not see much from Mr. Fay the other night. OK player, but quite lackluster in my opinion. They can have Fay, but I really liked Dillard. I certainly hope that Prosser is better than Fay. Anyone care to comment on a comparison of the two?

Carlton Fay was SIUs best player for their first 9 games. Through those 9 games he was averaging 13.7 ppg, and was their best three point shooter (13-34). But in their last 3 games he has scored just 6 ppg, and has made only 1 of 7 three point shots. Maybe he has an injury issue, but he hasn't looked good. But he is a solid player. I know Jim Les liked him a lot.

As far as a comparison to Jordan Prosser, I think they are very similar players in high school, though Fay made himself into more of a perimeter player when he transitioned to college, and Jordan is not as much of a three point shooter now. But I do think Jordan Prosser's post skills are better than Fay's were at this stage.

I've seen Fay play three or four times and he is not as bad as he looked in that game nor is Dillard as good. Fay stuck it to BU last year as a Frosh in one of their meetings and he will be one of the better players for SIU in the next 2-3 years. I think that Dillard had a hot hand and that because he was chucking them in from 5 feet beyond the 3-pt arc and some even with guys in his face, with the game already decided CLo had given him the "green light". That is generally a low percentage shot & I really don't see him making a career out of hitting that shot regularly. That said, he too will probably be one of SIU's featured players over the next 3 years.

I agree with this on Fay....all that muscle does means nothing if your out on the 3 pt arc all night.....he needs to learn to get inside and bang with that body! Its easy to dominate in high school when your a lot bigger and stronger than those around you....but not everyone wants to go inside and bang in D1! I don't see how Fay sould have helped out the Braves with his game as it is now.....JP will also have an adjustment to his game when he starts D1! I think he will be more ready to play in the Braves system and Ronnie Wright will get his body to the level it needs to be at!

From what I have seen, I think that Fay is and will be a solid player. I think Fay will get better once he plays inside more... As DC said, Fay started out hot so maybe he is injured or the scouting report is out on Fay and he needs to make some adjustments to his game.

what?? Fay is a sophomore, only a dozen games into his second season.
In Fay's first 45 games on his college career, all the kid has done is...
--provide a reliable player and reliable starter for the Salukis.
He hasn 't missed single minute of action due to injury or grades.
--he is presently SIU's leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder.
He also leads them in minutes played, FT's made and has FT% of 88%!!
--He already has more career points just 1/3 way through his sophomore season than any post player on Bradley's roster has.
--his numbers if he were on BU's roster, would make him 2nd leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder.

The kid is good and I know Jim Les pursued him hard and wanted him.

I think your words about Fay will come back to haunt you.........

He's done all that on a crappy team. Wow.

See Bill Cole

See Bill Cole
Now that's funny! Thanks for the laugh. It would be nice to land a center that can play inside and out. A pipedream center for BU in the MVC would be someone like Jack Sikma. Big, strong, was not afraid of contact, could shoot outside/inside, rebound, and could also make free throws consitently. What a dreamer I am... Coach Les: find us another Jack Sikma.

Except that is why Bill is so far behind...

Even in h.s. I noticed he didn't want to go down low, and thats mainly with guys that were 4-5 inches shorter than him...

Sam Singh certainly showed Sunday he can step out and hit a jumper...I know I was impressed w/ the play we ran for him to do that in the 2nd half.

A strong 6-9 kid who can play inside or shoot the three. I agree. I sure wish we had someone like THAT coming next year. ;)

I've seen Fay probably play 50 times in high school and college combined and I've seen Prosser even more.

Fay is stronger than Prosser and a much better three-point shooter. As far as post moves go, they both have a solid arsenal. What I like better about Prosser is that he is quicker on his feet and a lot more mobile. He runs the floor very well. He has the ability to knock down the three if given some room and he's a very good rebounder. I'd much rather have Prosser though I love Fay's game.

I think Cole has a couple of issues that has led to him not playing a whole lot so far. Obviously he has some strength issues, and you're right that he didn't show a lot of desire to bang down low in high school, and stayed on the perimeter(out of the paint anyway) quite a bit. So, I think he's behind on back to the basket play, because he didn't really develope that in high school. So this is why he hasn't put himself in position to get some PT in the post. (at the 4 or 5) Especially in the B10.

Now, Cole has got some shooting skills, but the reason he can't play the perimeter(say the 3) IMO, is his lack of lateral quickness and ability to defend other players at that position. I remember a couple of years ago when Richwoods played Pekin at the Field House(anyone remember that place;)) Pekin spread Richwoods out, and gave the ball to whoever Cole was guarding, and that player just blew right by him to create their offense, whether it was lay-up, or drive and dish, or drive and kick to beat the defense because they had to rotate to help Cole out. He was beat repeatedly in that game off the dribble, and I remember thinking that he will really have to improve on either his strength or perimeter D, because at that point he wasn't equipped to play either in the post or on the perimeter at the D1 level. It appears he is still struggling with both.

I hope BIll gets it figured out and becomes a successful player at Illinois, as we have seen other guys really contribute after struggling early in their careers. (JJ) comes to mind.

I think Fay will be fine. He may have just had an off game. There is probably not 1 player on either BU or SIU's roster that at some point this season you could have watched a particular game and came away with the opinion that they were not that impressive.

Jack Sikma would be pipe dream for any program in the country, as he was a very special player. But I understand what you're saying. To me, Paul Miller from WSU a couple of year's ago comes to mind as a poor man's(very poor man's) Jack Sikma, at least in style of play. He was very successful in the MVC.

Perfect response. I would take a big guy like Paul Miller any day. Big and tough with decent skills around the basket.

Jack Sikma was a good pro player, but how many Division I scholarship offers did he have? And how many points did he score against Division I teams?
It's a great story the way Sikma developed, but he apparently wasn't good enough for any D1 college to offer. If Coach Les recruited a kid who didn't get any other offers except from D3, he would be assailed here.:o

I think Sikma was more like 6'11" or close to 7', but I will take a 6'9" version of Sikma any day.
