I do think that Carlwell could develop into a heck of a player in the Valley. He showed flashes of strong play as a freshman at Illinois - his shotblocking was already very good, but he looked a bit lost offensively. This season, he put on some extra (unwanted) weight and found himself out of the regular rotation, then suffered a knee injury that kept him from practicing.
Jim Les may want to make a call to Brian and gauge his interest in Bradley. I think he would have eventually gotten into the rotation at Illinois had he stuck around and worked hard, but a transfer is probably best for him right now. He'll sit out next season, then have at least 2 years remaining, starting with 2009-10. I think he'd have to apply with the NCAA for his 4th year of eligibility, since it would be his 6th year in college. I'm not sure how often that type of request is granted.
