Are you sure about this Tornado? Wouldn't he only have 2 years of eligiblity left?

The way I see it: If he is granted a medical redshirt, then he loses a year while sitting out his transfer year. (when players transfer, they are giving up their right to any redshirt years, barring an appeal for extreme circumstances)

So he either re-enters the D-I basketball scene as: a redshirt JR or a regular JR.

Which makes no difference, because he has only 2 years left regardless.

you are correct, but after those 5 years he should be able, if academically sound, be able to request a 6th year from NCAA to complete his 4th season of athletic eligibility.
It would NOT be the same as the Bryson case as he lost a year to academics, but more like these cases that were granted.

Several of these are quite recent (within the past month) showing the NCAA is inclined to be generous as long as none of the years was lost to academics.

Most of the time a player gets a 6th year, is because of 2 years on injuries. (in the link above, that is what happened with the NAU player).
