Not much college basketball for a couple days, so I guess we'll have to talk a little NBA.
Tonight (3/14) the Celtics lost at the New Jersey Nets-

Now the Celtics and the Bulls have a record of 47-18, and are tied for the best record in the Eastern Conference of the NBA. Only the Spurs in the Western Conference have a better record at 54-12, but they are losing to the Miami Heat tonight.

Also, most of the national media now seems to agree that the Bulls Derrick Rose is the MVP this season.

The Bulls lost both games in Boston and have won the only game so far in Chicago with the final game vs. the Celts on Apr. 7 in Chicago
..so that's a pretty important game that the Bulls NEED to win....

The Bulls' next four opponents are all sub-.500 but one is the Nets who just beat Boston...so no time to lose focus...


Here's an interesting NBA topic....you'd better be careful what you say about how bad the NBA officiating is....

Chicago has a pretty easy schedule to finish the season and really should finish with the best record in the East. Health of Boozer and Noah could be an issue as they both are having problems staying healthy.

Rose certainly looks to be the front-runner for the MVP at this point. If Rose (22) wins, he will be the youngest NBA MVP ever. Wes Unseld won at 23.

Thibodeau also has a better winning percentage as a head coach than Red Auerbach. He may win coach of the year, but it would be hard to argue with Popovich or Doug Collins winning.
 
Celts lose again -- to the lowly Bobcats, while the Bulls win and move two games ahead in the east...

They have Shaq & Rondo ailing and they play a tougher remaining schedule, more on the road and three more against other top contenders, while the Bulls play only one more against any team with more than 47 wins and only two against teams with more than 37 wins

For Bulls fans- the Bulls won again last night beating a surging Memphis Grizzlies team 99-96. The Celtics lost again last night at home to a bad Charlotte, team and now the Bulls have a 2-game lead over the Celtics for the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Amazing, considering the Bulls have had one or more of their main players sitting out for most of their games. Carlos Boozer has missed 23 games, Joakim Noah has missed 31 games, and Derrick Rose missed one game. They now all appear to be healthy.

The Bulls have 11 games left (5 home, 6 road) including tonight at Milwaukee. 7 of them are against teams that are out of the playoffs.
They only play 4 teams with winning records, and 2 of them are just barely above .500 (the 76ers and the Suns). Plus they only play 1 road game against a team above .500 (vs. the Magic).
Could they catch the San Antonio Spurs for the best overall record? The Spurs are without injured Tim Duncan, and play 7 of their last 10 games against teams with winning records.

SA hasn't been playing as well, but I would be surprised to see Chicago catch them. SA has a pretty easy schedule to finish the season as well. It is certainly possible, but idk that it matters. LA seems to be the team to beat out West, and Chi has home court over LA.
 
A lot will depend on Tim Duncan's ankle injury. It didn't look too bad, and the team in downplaying the severity. But if he misses a lot of games, it's possible the Bulls could catch them. Though I doubt it will happen, too.

But San Antonio's schedule is not as friendly as the Bulls. Of their last 10 games, 8 of them are against teams with winning records and one of those 2 is Utah which fell below .500 by 1 game with their loss last night. They have difficult games against the Boston Celtics, Lakers, Trailblazers, and Hawks, as well as several others they will have a tough time winning if Duncan is out long.

It really depends on how badly SA wants the overall #1 spot and how much rest they need to give the vets. Boston and ATL both look weaker right now. Memphis, Portland, and Houston could be losses, but Chi has to almost win out the regular season to catch SA. Home court vs MIA and Boston is more important IMO.

but late last night the Lakers lost to Utah and they now also dropped to a worse record than the Bulls .. so now, only San Antonio, who have one fewer loss than the Bulls have a better record in the entire NBA.
If the Bulls can keep winning and if the Spurs lose a couple more of their remaining games, then the Bulls would not only have the best record all the way to the Finals, but also they'd have home court no matter who they face in the finals.

It looks like Chi will end up #1 in the east and #2 overall behind SA. It has been a great regular season for Chi. If they are healthy in the playoffs, I'm not sure anyone other than LA can beat them.

Just shows what a difference a really good coach can make on a program.;) Vinnie D definitely wasn't on the same plateau as Coach Tibs!
 
They are a great team but scare me when they play so many close games with lower seed teams. Could come back to haunt them in the playoffs.
 
All the other leading teams struggle ocasionally with beating bad teams, too. The Bulls actually win more of those games than any other team.

They do. Chi has 1 more loss than SA. Chi just seems to be running out of games, and SA has been playing better.

The Knicks seem happy with the trade, though the Nuggets have been one of the best teams in the NBA since the trade, while the Knicks record got worse after the trade.

The Lakers will come out of the West, so getting a higher seed than the Spurs won't matter. If the Bulls can get to the Finals, that will be one epic series, especially since it looks like the Bulls will have home-court.

This NBA postseason is really going to be special. I hope a lot of casual fans tune in because there will be some great basketball being played!

The Lakers lost another one last night, their third in a row. The Spurs are playing well now and with home court advantage, they will be tough to beat in the West.
