Charging Foul Resulting in Free Throws

as we talked about last night, lefty, the game was a mix of two different halves...

the first half nothing was called, and our guys had trouble adjusting..but in the 2nd half, the 3 refs were back to their old MVC ways of calling 25 fouls in a half, and it worked out for us!

The charging foul on Dyricus was terrible as he was up at the rim making a layup when the UNI defender slid under him , the rule says the offensive player has to have room to come down, Grimshaw is not a good referee , Sanzere has never been one of my favorites but Higgins is one of the best even though he made the bad call. I thought the officiating was good yesterday because it was consistent, you are always going to have a few bad calls in a game but as long as there is not a huge difference in the amount of free throws shot between teams I would say both teams got a fair shake.

Not a fan or just not a good ref ?

well I've only seen him do our games but he seems to warn JL pretty quick and.....other refs that JL talks to will talked to him. I don't remember ever seeing him come over and expalin anything like other refs do.

But he could be just a bad ref:)

It was consistent each half....first half was consistent as they let things go..the second half a little more closely called. But thats OK as the players need to adjust.

Agreed on the "room to land".....he didn't make contact until after the shot so he is allowed space to come down...he wasn't.

It IS the toughest call to make ( a charge) and we got a few calls are way also.

SS had a HORRIBLE screen during a CRITICAL time I STILL can't believe wasn't called. It could have killed a good rally and thank goodness they missed it.

IF thats the case then it makes sense why they don't call it. :) I never get those memo's anymore.
Da Coach is right. A player only violates a throw in when he does not release the ball after 5 seconds. I do think we need to put token pressure on teams so they don't roll the ball up the court.
Dogs also need to clarify something else you said in an earlier post. I think you said a defender MUST give a shooter room to land. That is false on a rules test. If a defender has established a spot on the floor and is in legal guarding position he is entitled to that spot if the offensive player has not left the floor. The key is the defender must be in legal gurding position and not move into a spot after the shooter leaves the floor.
