Charlie Coley and Roy Bright

A couple of recruits that almost came to Bradley the last 2 years had huge games yesterday.

Charlie Coley, who has started every game except the first 3 for Charlotte, averaged a modest 8.7 ppg, 6.2 rpg, and 0.5 apg for Charlotte this season. But he had 14 points and 17 rebounds yesterday in a win over UMass.

It would have been nice to have Coley, but by comparison, the guy Bradley signed after losing Coley, Theron Wilson, averaged 11.4 ppg, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.

And Delaware State, who was picked to easily win the MEAC, struggled to a 13-15 record and a 4th place finish in their conference. But yesterday, Roy Bright had 18 points and 11 rebounds in a last second win over an awful NC A&T team. Delaware State's RPI is still over 200, and they will have to pull a couple upsets and win their tournament to get to the NCAA. The MEAC is a one-bid conference, with the best team, Morgan State, at an RPI of 123.

Coley had a fine year for Charlotte....but most people don't know that their best newcomer,
would have been Michael Beasley, had it not been for the hire at Kansas State of Bob Huggins, who hired away the assistant (Dalonte Hill) from Charlotte, and lured Beasley into switching to K-State.

It makes you wonder how good Charlotte might have been had they had the National POY?

Here is an article discussing that

Yes, his troubles at Cincinnati were well publicized.

He seemed to clean his act up at Garden City CC, and Bradley was interested in him 2 years ago, but he went to Delaware State.
He has had a pretty good couple years at Delaware State, but they did not make the postseason either of his years there.

Yeah, we had high hopes for him, but you can't keep a guy around that discharges a gun on campus. He was one of the last incidents that led to the dismissal of Huggins. Huggins acted quickly in dropping him from the team, but it was too little too late. We have kept an eye on him since then. He has done well, and I see him having a lucrative career overseas.
