Chicago Eliminated from 2016 Olympics

Good. We would have been stuck with the bills downstate somehow and you know it. Where would you rather go... Rio or Chicago?

How about Obama's star power to bring home those games? I guess even his international zeal is waning!:-o

Personally I think this elimination has a ton to do with the "politics" of Chicago. There also is a huge faction in Chicago not at all interested in these games.

A good win for the little person of Chicago and Illinois. I guess the politicos of Chicago will have to fleece someone else.

That was a d@@n if you do and d##n if you don't situation for Obama. Every foreign leader of the four remaining cities was present for the presentation to the Olympic Committee.

Chicago Eliminated

Good!! The "Savior" and his minions couldn't pull it off and the citizens of Illinois will not have to pay for the cost overruns and corruption that would have most certainly followed.

I can see both sides of this issue, but selfishly I was hoping Chicago would get the bid as I have always wanted to see the Olympic games.

The left leaning politicos in SF pulled out over a year ago because they could not justify the real cost compared to the benefits. It was funny to hear Daley saying that Chicago could become a destination city from the games, as to indicate that money spent on the Olympics will draw new visitors after the games is over in droves. I'm sure Montreal or for that fact Athens could tell you that that is just not the case. There more to being fleeced by your own politicos at the Olympic. There's the corrupt Olympic officials that like to be greased also.

Chicago then didnt sent the right "greasers" Should have sent Ryan and Blago, they would have gotten this thing done. :)

It is a good thing for the taxpayers of Illinois that Chicago was eliminated, Illinois is broke now and hosting the olympics is a huge economic loser, just ask Atlanta,Georgia .

On the other side of all this I hope the US citizens start to see what the Olympics has become. It is nothing but a money making corporation that fleeces a city every 4 years to host a sporting brand/event, nothing more or nothing less. Now that the US got slapped in the face again, NY last time, why are our corporate companies still paying these fleecers to co-brand with their logo? I say it is time to stop caring about this brand. They do not care one iota about the US but the $$ we generate for them. Remember that US companies pay the majority of the sponsorship deals and the balk of the network deal compared to the rest of the world. Read this article for a bit of the behind the scene deal http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/26/sports/olympics/26olympic.html

SFP, there is no doubt that the Olympic Committee fleeces cities every four years. That being said, the Rio De Janeiro selection does make sense. If you take the Winter Olympics into consideration, the US has hosted the Olympics quite a few times in a timeframe such as the past 30 years.

If you think cost for Chicago would've been bad, just think of this:

Rio de Janeiro now has the World Cup and the Olympics within a 2 year span. Good luck with that.

Your right htb, we lost because we only sent one of Illinois's three stooge's:-P Maybe Daly should of sent that eye wondering, greaser woman, Nance:roll:
Now we need to get another victory and Sh-t Can that unplanned Health Care Plan:-o:-P

I could not be happier about this news. According to CNN: ""Chicago 2016, the organization leading the effort to host the games, had projected a cost of $3.8 billion, including a "rainy day" fund of $450 million in case of unforeseen increases if the city won the bid."

3.8 BILLION?
From country currently mired in a recession

From a state that is currently operating at a deficit of 11.6 BILLION dollars

From a state who is letting convicted felons be released early to save money

From a state with a governor who threatened to slash funding for the developmentally disabled population of the state including closing the ISVI (Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, where my sister is currently enrolled)

I am sure the chicago political machine would have made it work, but you can bet it would have been on the backs of every taxpayers in the state for decades to come.
