I don't think its even a matter of PC. They were originally called Indians b/c Columbus thought he was in Asia. let me play devil's advocate here. how would you differentiate between someone who is an 'indian' as you might want to say and someone who is from the country of India? doesn't make sense to me. I say "Native American" just to clarify and make it known ethnicity w/o the confusion.
as for the whole Caucasian -american issues, i don't think those are in the same light. yes you could call someone w/ ancestry from europe that, or are they white, or whatever. semantics to be argued either way.
I will say like you that I'm not offended by the display. but at the same time why would I even have a say in it? if some people that were Native American dislike it, then so be it.
either way I don't care too much for Illini athletics, I get tired of all their press, and look forward to the day when Bradley's basketball program eclipses them. GoBraves
