WoW!

So if SIU comes in at #6, who are they leaving out of the Top 5?

I would think these are sure bets:
WSU
CU
ISU (red)
BU

Either UNI or Missouri State I would think.
Very odd.

I think my Birds will be left out after seeing SIU in... the only thing these pre-season pickers see is what we are losing...

My guess would be the Redbirds will be left out of the countdown since they will be so young next year. Regardless, I think ISU will end up ahead of SIU. The SIU program seems like a sinking ship in my opinion.

I am going to guess they have the Valley like this...not that I fully agree.......

10-UE - because everyone will pick Evansville last
9-Drake because they're young and could surprise someone, this is about where they were last year
8-ISU because they lost too much and aren't going to get it done with jucos
7-InSU - this one's been revealed
6-SIU - this one's been revealed but I don't think they'll do a whole lot better than Evansville
5- CU because they have Lawson
4-BU because the CHN guys have never been very accurate and they'll miss on BU this year
3-MSU because those wins down the stretch seem to impress everyone, but when BU nearly ran the table in the CBI & CIT nobody really was impressed...plus they just lost 2 of their top 7 to injury
2-WSU because they get everyone back except Hannah, but I think that's going to be a big loss
1-UNI because they are on top until someone knocks them off

Drake at #9 and #5, but no Creighton. I'm guessing you meant to put Creighton at #5.

I'd have to believe they will have WSU as #1. I also have to believe the MVC's top 5 teams will be pretty good and should be able to play with just about anyone outside of the top 10.

3-MSU because those wins down the stretch seem to impress everyone, but when BU nearly ran the table in the CBI & CIT nobody really was impressed...plus they just lost 1of their top 7 to injury

Porter only played 6 games last year and was coming off major surgery. Pickens yes Porter no. Caleb Patterson was our 6th leading scorer last year and will be first off the bench this year along with frosh Nathan Scheer and Corey Copeland.

4-BU because the CHN guys have never been very accurate and they'll miss on BU this year....

A year ago BU was picked by the various college basketball publications to finish anywhere from 5-6-7 in the Valley. DR had them picked 3rd. Many felt the preseason picks of these publications, including CHN, to be uniformed, and not very accurate. Some even felt DR's prediction was too pessimistic!

October 12, 2009
"Speaking of DR, he is the only one of the Valley writers who has actually SEEN this year's Braves, and did anyone notice where he picked BU.
He picked BU 3rd...and I doubt koolaid is playing a part in that, as DR has never been accused of favoring the Braves over reality...
Other who have "seen" BU have also stated they are going to be better than predicted...while all those who have not seen BU are picking them 6th & 7th...
so time will tell........." Tornado

Interestingly enough, BU finished in a tie for 5th-6th in the Valley last year, ONE GAME out of 7th place in the Valley. I guess the prognosticators weren't as innaccurate as some believed about BU's chances last year!

Until BU proves itself on the court, pollsters will have a tough time picking BU higher. Returning experience might mean more if the experienced players returning had won the previous year.

SM was 2nd Team MVC last year and AW was Honorable Mention MVC. No BU players were on All Freshman, All Newcomer, or All Defensive MVC Teams last year.

Hardly a resume to boost BU in preseason rankings in 2010-11.

If BU is picked 4th in the 2010-11 preseason polls, seems pretty fair. Do I think BU can finish higher, of course. Could they finish lower than 4th? Based on history, I would have to say yes as well. I hope BU exceeds expectations this season!

I have pointed out many times how almost all the prognosticators -- even the Valley coaches in their preseason polls have been horribly inaccurate...
so much so that it is actually kinda funny......they've accurately picked the Valley's Champion only once this past decade..and only 6 times since Hersey Hawkins led the Braves in 1988!

I can find examples, too.......
SIU was picked 2nd in 2008-09 (they finished 7th), and 4th in 2009-2010 (they finished 9th).
In 2006-07 Drake of course blew everyone away to finish 1st but everyone had them at the bottom.

Simply pointing out one example of where the CHN guys came close in a season where BU lost a key player or two to injuries and had to un-redshirt a kid, is hardly proof of their accuracy.

Time and again they have missed by a mile on teams that DID NOT lose players to injuries..

EVERYONE flails on preseason predictions. It's not a new phenomenon. I bet you could find any predictions and find something terribly wrong with them, just like I bet you could frame any predictions you find to be very accurate if you wanted ot.

I agree..it's fun but if you miss on future projections, that's the nature of the beast -- it happens to everyone....
but it's clearly not the same as completely mis-reporting facts like buyouts and massive player defections or completely flubbing an unconfirmed internet report of a player's verbal commitment as fact without even calling or talking to anyone!...
