Chris Reynolds interview

Da Coach

Someone sent me this video, and I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise. It was posted yesterday (6/13/23) to YouTube by the Bradley Athletic Department, though I don't see it posted anywhere on the Bradley Athletics website. Let me know if it is.

I will say again, we (as fans, grads, and supporters of Bradley) are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Reynolds at BU.

Wish we were a little more fortunate along the lines of the Athletic Department communicating with the loyal donors, season ticket holders, & supporters... everyone in every sport. Why not?

Wonder why they don't feel that reaching out to the fans, or setting up fan-events - esp. during he offseason - is very high on their priority list? Seems they kiss a few a**es but it doesn't pay off much when our best players leave anyway looking for more NIL elsewhere. Why make fans wait for the ITOO Supper, the one event where the average fan can feel like they're on board with the team? People now are deciding on buying tickets, individual games vs. season tickets. Now is the time to get busy promoting 2023-24 BU basketball.-

yeah- interesting that right after suggesting they send that video via email to all their donors/supporters/ticketholders...

then presto, I get an email linking to the video.

I don't think it was anything nefarious. I follow Bradley Athletics on YouTube and saw that video posted a few days before they posted it to Facebook and Twitter. The email from Bradley was the last thing to be "posted" and I would imagine it was just the last thing they got to.

do you think certain people at Bradley ever read what's said on message boards?
A couple of them did (or do) on a daily basis and used to even respond and post regularly.
I even know some of the regular posters here who have been confronted face-to-face by Athl. Dept. personnel about their opinions.

I think it's probably a good idea for them to read message boards to get a pulse for what the fans are saying and thinking, but I think it's totally inappropriate for them to post or actively engage fans in person. If you're doing that Bradley then just STOP!

Bradley fans are also extremely fortunate to have Dave Snell at Bradley!
I learned today that Dave is writing a book that chronicles his years as Bradley's play-by-play announcer. And I suspect it will include a lot of Bradley history and great stories from these past 44 years. I can't wait until it's finished and available!

With all of the fallout happening at Northwestern athletics, does anyone think that Chris Reynolds will be contacted to replace their current AD? The more details that are coming out about the football and baseball programs, the more it looks like Northwestern will be looking outside their athletic department to make significant changes in personnel.

I've been following this story closely, and so far, the Northwestern AD, Derrick Gragg, doesn't seem to be coming under too much fire. The Northwestern administration launched an independent investigation last November when they received an anonymous email accusation of the hazing in their football program. Then when the investigation was completed, a summary was released on July 7. It confirmed the hazing claims without going into detail, and issued a 2-week suspension for Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald. But the investigation did not determine that Coach Fitzgerald knew about the hazing.
The next day, July 8, the student newspaper, The Daily Northwestern, published claims from multiple former players with much worse and more graphic details about the hazing than had previously been reported. Later that day (July 8 ) university president Michael Schill backpedaled on the 2-week suspension, and stated there were issues he failed to consider with the initial sanctions. Two days later, on July 10, Schill fired Fitzgerald, and announced athletic director Derrick Gragg will name a new coach for the 2023-24 football season.

It sounds like Athletic Director Derrick Gragg was not a part of the football investigation, nor the one making the decisions. He was hired just 2 years ago, and the hazing had reportedly been going on for many years prior to that.
However, there is one other issue that just arose. This week, several former Northwestern baseball players have accused baseball head coach Jim Foster of abusive behavior. Who knows where that story will lead.

Note that when Northwestern hired current AD Derrick Gragg in June, 2021, Chris Reynolds was not a serious candidate at that time. The Northwestern administration appeared intent on hiring an experienced AD from another FBS school. Gragg came to Northwestern after 10 years at Tulsa.

I don't think so. It's pretty huge jump from no football at all to Power 5 football. I think that if/when Chris were to leave Bradley, it's more likely that he'd pursue and executive leadership role with the NCAA rather than another AD position.

Yes. I was listening to the Score 670 am this morning. It’s going to get a lot worse for the Wildcats. More stories are coming out from more players. Former Bears coach Dave Wannstedt was asked to help out and declined the offer.

This is not going to end well for Northwestern. They were trying to push through a new 800 million dollar stadium to host concerts and be a revenue enhancer and were facing opposition from Evanston residents.
