Chris Reynolds named new Bradley AD

just an interesting sidenote...
the guy who is the current AD at Indiana said something similar to this that angered a lot of Hoosier fans...

He said something to the effect that the $100 donors gripe the loudest - or the most...
more than the big-money donors... - apparently implying that the only people who have a right to gripe if IU loses are the $100K donors and everyone else should shut up...
Now maybe that's not what he meant but...it doesn't matter - that's how the comment came over - LINK - and it caused a backlash people who keep citing the comment as insulting to fans

his comment however came over a lot like the comment about how the university doesn't make any money on the upper bowl ticket-buyers - hinting that it don't matter if they come or go..
I think CR's links to Peoria mean he will truly respect the fan base we have for Bradley.

An AD has to understand that there is a public relations aspect to that job. So while it is correct that the marginal revenue from the 8 dollar tickets is small (therefore a crowd of 10,000 brings in nowhere near double the money that a crowd of 5000 does; the difference in marginal revenue isn't as great as some think), stating that accounting fact in that manner made it appear as if he was disrespecting those with cheaper seats.

but there's NEVER a time that 5000 fans is as good for Bradley as 10,000 fans...
such a statement by someone at BU was really astoundingly stupid..

Maybe those $8 ticket buyers will become higher paying customers someday if they can afford it as long they don't get pissed off by the AD. I have sat in the lower and upper bowls at various times over the years but they should consider themselves fortunate to have anybody buy a seat anywhere to see the crap we have been given the last few years. Give me a reason to sit in the lower bowl and I'd be more than happy pay the price for good basketball.

didn't look comfortable..

but Chris said all THE RIGHT THINGS...
great looking family -

if he does a great enough job would Indiana come to hire him away?? Hope we have that to worry about!!

He instills a confidence, enthusiasm, and positivity that we have needed for years!!

He is a great choice -

in some followup questions asked by media & others - Chris Reynolds was asked (obviously) about any decision regarding head men's basketball coach...

his answer repeatedly and obviously well rehearsed was...
"there is no time table for any decision on that"...

but it also means it is right there on his mind and just maybe at the top of the list of things to do..

Has anyone been able to get the video to work? It won't load for me, and I've tried it on both Chrome and IE, so I don't think it's the browser.

it worked for me but was jumpy - and I couldn't tell for sure because it jumped and skipped but I thought Dr. G gave Chris kudos for winning the IHSA Championship in 2003, 2004 with Peoria Central - but Chris' trip to state was back in the late 80's

I was very impressed as I watched it on the computer. Great speaker and he just looks like he wants to be here. As nice as MC might have been I never really got that impression from him.
Great hire & great future and, yes, if IU comes calling some day then that means that CR did the job we all wanted.
Good luck to Chris

I emphatically agree with your first statement; more fans certainly help the atmosphere and inspire the team.

Disagree with the second one though, at least in fact. If I am not mistaken, he was talking about revenues and pointing out that falling attendance wasn't the main driver for the financial problems and pointing out the fact that "twice the fans at a game" doesn't mean "twice the revenue"; the marginal revenue from the upper bowl tickets is far less than from the initial 5K.

But his explanation was phrased in a way that made for bad PR.

It was also a short sighted observation.

Reynolds Is Perfect!!

Reynolds Is Perfect!!

This is terrific news. The BOTs has my compliments and confidence. They brought in a wonderful person and a total fit. Hats off to the BOT!

Does anyone have any idea about leading coaching candidates?

How about the same question for recruiters?

I think the recruiter assigned to a recruit must be of great character. The recruiter is next in importance to the coach. We must represent Bradley with someone that is respected and looked up to in order to give the recruit the best possible impression of Bradley and what the university stands for.

Well...there needs to be a timetable--and it is NOW!! The longer we wait--the worse it gets. Hoping he makes an immediate impact at BU and sends Geno packing and brings his person on board--waiting for the inevitable has no benefit.

CubbieBear - I think there is a form of timetable and I think it is already churning but he is being diplomatic so as to avoid presumptions and expectations right away - cuz sometimes things just take a little more time than initially allotted.

Finally got to see the video and what can I say - I love this guy, already. Definitely didn't have the same feeling when Michael Cross was hired. I remember watching his initial interview and thinking, 'this guy doesn't know anything about Bradley basketball', while Chris can go on and on about Bradley and more specifically the basketball program.

Go Braves! Time to get excited again!

Heard that it was a very uncomfortable ceremony for you know who. That's just too bad. From everything I have heard about Chris he is, I believe, the right person in the right place at the right time. I would expect Chris already has an idea who he wants as head coach and that sometime before the Final Four we'll know who it is.
