Coaching candidates

Coaching Candidates

Coaching Candidates

While it's fun to speculate on candidates and who the possible next coach will be.....I have 100% trust in Chris Reynolds to locate and hire the best possible coach for us. Chris has a great background as a player, athletic administrator and ass't. AD as well as contacts throughout college basketball. He will find the right guy. Go get him Chris!!

I don't think there are too many people that are interested in Paulus really…..he does have more college experience than the coach hired in 02 though;)

Stir, stir, stir. Shouldn't complain when Da Coach or T mentions that coach again.

I think I agree……Wardle and Fife are pretty young and Nagy has been there for 20 years(hard to think he would leave for BU now)……..I like Grant quite a bit….but I would certainly support any of the 5

Fife did have a head coaching job for 6 years at IPFW, and went 82-97!
...never higher than 3rd in a weak Summit and averaging 4-5th, and never a post-season appearance.

Oddly, when he stepped down, they hired Tony Jasick who did better.... - with his last year of 25-11 & a post-season bid - good enough that he got hired away and now their new guy makes the post season as well.
Dane Fife just does not have a track record that appeals to me at this time.

As for why Nagy might just be tempted to consider the Bradley job...
Hmmm....his salary at South Dakota State is said to be $180-200K and we were just paying our guy over $700K -
I'd say getting your salary tripled and moving back to civilization (albeit Peoria) are good lures.

Do we assume this list came from Reynolds???¦.I doubt Reynolds would have just made it up right???¦??¦ok first Reynolds is CR and and sec on one is DR:)??¦.

CR must be pretty confident in hiring one of these guys I would think

Dave Reynolds admits they just made their list up
"The Journal Star has compiled a short list of five names..."

so it makes for an interesting read...
but recall that four years ago the PJS compiled a list a couple times and gave us a dozen different names - and not one of them was hired.

My vote is for LaVall Jordan. If JH selected, would not mind. The knock on JH for smokin would not deter players.

Let's get this right JH was:
Never charged w/ smoking and was clean of any drugs of any kind when tested. Got caught w/ it in his car-said it was someone else's that had rode w/ him earlier that day.
His mistake was not coming clean to his bosses right away

Da Coach...I have the utmost respect for your opinions, however I must respectfuly disagree with your listing of Jerrance Howard as a BU coach. Regardless of your arguments as to why he has not been selected as a coach before, I for one believe the successful Coach's know something that we don't about his qualifications or lack of. He would have been offered something by now if he were that highly thought of. I have real reservations about his character as well. At a point in time he obviously disrespected the law and the rules. Do you really believe that is a temporary condition? Not a chance. Most importantly he has zero experience as a head coach. At this point do we really need someone with zero experience to help us with the severe problems that we currently have at this time. Personally, I feel uneasy with this choice. Remember this thread if jh is selected.

I agree. The fact that he went to Central and brings the Buescher camp back into the fold is held in way too high regard, and has nothing to do with his ability to coach. Sure he may eventually work out if given the job, but the dude had pot and was dumb enough to get caught. That says more than his high school alma mater on his character and maturity, IMO.

and maybe not being careful who rides with him in his car......

Maybe he was set up by someone too....

Why is J Howard. A Good Candidate

Why is J Howard. A Good Candidate

This is a simple and pure question. I respect all posters on here because they are knowledgeable and probably alums. Can someone post the reasons why J Howard is a great candidate? No axe to grind here. I just want to know. Thank you all. :D

Basically the same reasons Chris Reynolds was great pick for AD. He has had great experience working at some tremendous schools for great people. He has distinguished himself and has built a great reputation as a recruiter. Many who know what they are talking about think he is ready for a HC job. And he's from Peoria and loves and appreciates their history and tradition.

I think it's kind of hard to compare the two...but it seems to me Reynolds has more experience at what he's been doing and education as well to make him qualified to be an AD more so than JH being a HC.......

Everyone has said nothing but good things about CR and thinks he is definitely the right guy for that position. There seems to be very mixed feelings regarding Howard........

Grant or Davis would certainly work for me.

If BU could get either Grant and Davis, that would be great. For where the program is at, either would be unexpectedly good hires. I would think the program could get back on track with either gentleman :-) If we got one of those guys, I can see the ol' fan base getting fired up pretty dang quick :-)

The Simeon coach? We know he can coach d1 caliber athletes that's for sure. If we were in the place that les left us in I would be open to him but imo we need someone with proven recruiting skills to get us out of this hole. Howard (my favorite candidate) is a well respected recruiter and has apprenticed under good coaches, with self being a top 5 coach in college basketball.

He is a good recruiter -- look who he gets to go to Simeon -- remember Versace was just a JUCO coach and he turned out to be BUs greatest coach of all time

I have heard we have already offered the position to someone that will make most of the fan base happy...a guy who has been a Big Winner
thus far and has as many DI conference wins before he turned 35 as Geno has in his entire career

so...the comment from Dave Reynolds that it..
"..isn’t expected to take long.
...a new head coach would be in place soon, possibly as quickly as within two days."

...and this fits with what we have also heard from other sources...

Once the position is offered, then the candidate obviously might want to take a day or two to discuss with family or other advisors/experts, he might want to talk to players, and he also might just want to go to his current "employer/school" and see if they would match the offer or up the ante....
I believe this is where we are right now in the process.
If the candidate turns us down, then we likely would never know or hear that, as neither side would gain further by talking that up...
The process would move then right to the next candidate in line...

Not sure about Wardle .......

Fully agree and it wasn't my intentions to bring that up as an endorsement of my wanting him hired or not but to distinguish the difference between smoking pot and possession of pot.
I guess I would have to ask how would everyone feel if he had come clean to begin with which was the biggest mistake JH made.
I have no idea if this is still a pkg deal but will except CR's decision and then support whoever that is and get onto better times on the hilltop.
