Coaching carousel begins

but only if he once recruited a kid who was born in Illinois or
is the only remaining guy on a staff where everyone else was fired because of corruption...

Tony Barbee has quit at UTEP and will take the Auburn job.

Paul Hewitt is still the coach at Georgia Tech. He has been offered the job at St. john's, but can't decide whether to take it.

At Seton Hall- Siena??™s Fran McCaffery, Robert Morris coach Mike Rice, and Vermont??™s Mike Lonergan have interviewed. Others being considered include Iona??™s Kevin Willard, former player Adrian Griffin, now at assistant with the Bucks, and Cornell??™s Steve Donahue.

Hofstra??™s Tom Pecora accepted the coaching job at Fordham.
Hofstra is now considering assistant Van Macon, Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell and Louisville assistant Steve Masiello.

Iowa has reportedly interviewed Utah's Jim Boylen, and is waiting to interview Dayton's Brian Gregory.

Boise State is reportedly considering Larry Krystkowiak and Gonzaga assistant Leon Rice.

Houston is reportedly interested in Billy Gillispie, but the University President isn't sure to approve this hire. If the President doesn't approve, their backup choices include Sam Houston State head coach Bob Marlin, Rodney Terry (Texas assistant), Craig Neal (New Mexico assistant) and Chris Walker (Villanova assistant). Sources also have said that former USC coach Tim Floyd is trying to get into the mix.

Sam Houston State head coach Bob Marlin is also a candidate for the Lafayette job.

Charlotte is considering Kansas assistant and former ECU coach Joe Dooley, Xavier assistant Pat Kelsey, and Texas assistant Russell Springmann.

Seton Hall's list includes every single person on my short list for Bradley in the future sans the Robert Morris coach...

You want Adrian Griffin at Bradley? :)

Yeah, I didn't put his name in that last post, and somehow should have known I'd get dinged for it...

Thanks DC...and in record time too

Listened to AG, not a huge fan, although of the ESPN guys, having a staff of LaPhonso Ellis and Doug Gottlieb wouldn't be too bad :D

I am hearing that Hewitt from GT is headed up to St. Johns and looks as though he is going to be the next head coach for the Red Storm.

Looks like Hewitt turned down the offer from St. John's-
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=5027590

St. John's will turn to Plan B, which reportedly includes Seth Greenberg of Virginia tech, and Steve Donohue of Cornell.

Also, Tom Pecora, formerly the coach at Hofstra, was officially named head coach at Fordham-

WOW...actually quite shocked...have a good buddy in Atlanta and he said all the radio outlets were saying Hewitt was going to take the job for sure....I guess nothing is a real certainty anymore though...

I don't know all the inside stuff, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple more top names turn down the St. john's job, before they finally nab someone a rung or two lower than they are currently shooting for.
There are some messy issues at St. John's, beside the problem of getting any top recruits to go there.

St John's does not have much of a campus and being in NY with little community space for the students that can make things a bit difficult.

Here is a little more on how Paul Hewitt changed from loooking at the St. John's job as his "dream job" to rejecting their offers in just a couple days-

Valley coaches who were immediately successful after jumping to a BCS school - some legendarily so!:
Matt Painter, Bruce Weber, Mark Turgeon, Tubby Smith, Bill Self, Ralph Miller, Norm Stewart, Jack Hartman, Eddie Hickey (now we're going back a ways!), and an obscure guy back in 1948 who left indiana State to go to UCLA, named John Wooden.

Valley coaches who were NOT successful at the next spot they jumped to:
Steve Alford, Greg McDermott, Bob Bender, Bob Donewald, Tony Barone, Gene Smithson, Tom Apke, Tom Abatemarco, Gary Garner, Maury John, Sherman Dillard, Bill Hodges, Dave Schellhase, Royce Waltman, Jim Crews

Valley coaches who jumped to the big time but had to bounce around a bit or take some time before they gained some success:
Dick Versace, Steve Alford, Kevin Stallings, Charlie Spoonhauer, Eddie Fogler

Valley coaches who jumped to the big time or another school but the jury is still out:
Keno Davis, Jim Molinari, Porter Moser, Barry Hinson, Steve Merfeld

Great article on Ben Jacobson! Who knows maybe he is one of the few guys not looking for a quick buck and realizes what he has already. I do hope he stays.

This reminds me a lot of McDermott in his last season at UNI. He got a number of calls to interview for new jobs, but said publically he wanted to remain at UNI. He parlayed the offers into a new contract with UNI, but then shortly after agreeing to a new contract, Iowa State abruptly fired Wayne Morgan, and McDermott took the job.
