Coaching Carousel

For those dual Illini/Bradley fans out there, Chester Frazier is leaving Champaign to join Devries at WVU.

This is very surprising to me given that Frazier is a UofI alum (his wife is too). Was there a connection to Devries? Maybe this provided him with a faster track to a head coaching job.

Rumors are revolving around a falling out with Underwood in regards to direction of the program.

Former Long Beach State head coach (also Gonzaga, Minnesota) Dan Monson named head coach at Eastern Washington

With BYU hiring from the professional ranks, that is basically the end of the coaching carousel. The players still in the transfer portal should start to make their final decisions

There are now 3 schools who have not filled their head coaching vacancies, all relatively low-major schools-
Chicago State- head coach Gerald Gillion left to become an assistant coach at Long Island University
Florida A&M- Robert McCullum's contract not renewed; former UAB/Missouri/Arkansas/St. John's coach Mike Anderson rumored to be leading candidate
Mount St. Mary's- Dan Englestad resigned and took an assistant coach position at Syracuse

Indiana State's new head coach Matthew Graves reportedly to hire past great Jake Odum as an assistant coach -https://twitter.com/OneMotiveSports/status/1781207706835046732

Chicago State, one of the last D1 teams to name a new coach, announces at 8:05 pm on a Saturday night that they have hired Scott Spinelli as their new head coach - https://www.gocsucougars.com/news/2...etball-coach-at-chicago-state-university.aspx

Spinelli has been an assistant coach at Chicago State for 1 season.
Good luck to him, he'll need it. Chicago State is one of the worst head coaching jobs in the country. They have been without a conference for the last 2 years, and next year, they will join the Northeast Conference. - https://sports.yahoo.com/chicago-state-join-northeast-conference-183200143.html

Here are where the teams in the Northeast Conference are located. Chicago State will be about 1000 miles from the other schools on average. (note: St. Francis Brooklyn will drop all athletics at the end of this school year and drop out of the NEC)

Yes, Chicago St has a bad record, but they lost a lot of close games and beat Northwestern at their home court. Then the Cats go to Purdue and win there. Go figure.

saw a rumor that the UMES head coach who had a bad year this year at one of the lowest of the low-DI's,
is either fired, leaving or getting hired elsewhere... nothing official anywhere, tho

Wyoming is now suddenly looking for a new head coach. They are reportedly zeroing in on Wisconsin-Green Bay's Sundance Wicks - https://www.greenbaypressgazette.co...in-talks-to-become-wyoming-coach/73660073007/

Wicks was just hired a year ago after Green Bay suffered through 3 horrible seasons under Will Ryan. He lead Green Bay to one of the most successful turnarounds in NCAA history in 2023-24, taking a team that went 3-29 in 2022-23, and going 18-14 overall and 13-7 in the Horizon League and being named Horizon League Coach of the Year. - https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/green-bay/men/

The last two times Green Bay was looking to hire a new head coach, a Bradley assistant was a candidate.
