Coaching Carousel

just think, the first player he ever bought/poached as a DI head coach was a Bradley player, with the help of
a literal criminal slimeball Benedict Arnold who was working in Bradley's Athletic Dept.
But his legacy of being a slimeball himself dates way back into the 80's.
Pearl also was part of the same coaching staff at Boston College as students that Ken Kavanagh was.

Sounds like another DI head coach is on the way out..
unconfirmed but reports are Tarleton State's Billy Gillispie.....

Rumors vary from recruiting violations to player mistreatment, but nobody seems to actually know.

and after they just landed a former highly rated recruit, Dior Johnson... listed as a JUNIOR (with 2 years left to play).
He has reportedly played for NINE different high schools (per his bio), he then committed to Syracuse- then reneged, Oregon-
then reneged, & then Pitt, but left Pitt after an arrest and went juco (Clarendon). Since then he's been at UCF, now
Tarleton State. So in all, he's with his 15th different school since starting HS and still has two years left.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if this investigation has anything to do with him.

Jeff Goodman reports that Kansas City head coach Marvin Menzies will be let go after this season.
This is Menzies' 4th season at Kansas City. He is 4-14 this season and 44-71 for the 3½ years he's been there.
Previous to his job at UMKC, he was head coach at New Mexico State for 9 seasons (2009-2016) and was very successful, winning an average of 22.5 games over his final 5 seasons, winning two conference titles, and winning 4 out of 5 WAC Conference Tournament championships and playing in the NCAA 4 of those final 5 seasons. Then he coached at UNLV, but lasted only 3 seasons there. (2016-1019).

Hot Seat discussions are starting up.....

Loyola Chicago (Drew Valentine- hired 2021) and Wichita State (Paul Mills, 3rd coach since 2020) on the list as well as
Butler, Cincinnati and OKLAHOMA (Porter Moser in his 5th year there!)- LINK

Would anyone be surprised if Loyola tried to bring back Moser?
Which MVC coaches might be targets to get hired away and are any MVC coaches on the hot seat besides possibly Ragland (Evansville)?

Here's the list of mid-major coaches on the hot seat-
Evansville, NIU, FGCU among others- LINK

Is the list you included in order of how hot the seat is or were the schools simply listed randomly?

I follow the NIU board, being an NIU alum, and there have been calls for Burno's firing ever since his first season. In his very first game after being hired, he came away with a victory over the other Huskies from Seattle, in Seattle, but it's been all downhill from there. There's been a rumor posted, or someone's wishful thinking, that he will be fired either this month or next, as this is the last year of his contract.

Someone else has mentioned, beginning last season, that he would like to see Bryan Mullins get hired at NIU. I don't know who would want this job. It's a dead end job at a school that doesn't support its men's hoops team and has been ranked the worst men's hoops HC job in the MAC. The only HC that got another HC job at a D1 school, in at least the past 50 years, was Jim Molinari. NIU men's hoops sucked when I was there and they've sucked for much of the past 50 years, except for a few years which you can count on one hand. I think they should be renamed Chicago State West.

a couple sources list Marquette (Shaka Smart) on the hot seat in his 5th year there. They are doing terrible - about to drop to 1-7 in the Big East,
(currently getting hammered by DePaul)

...and fans very restless. I doubt they will fire Smart - his first four seasons at Marquette (2021-25) were excellent, 23, 27, 29 wins...NCAA bids...

But let's say they do cut Smart loose and look to hire, - and simultaneously, let's say Bradley goes on a great run, wins the Valley &
a couple games in the NCAA. Any guess who might be listed as the #1 target for Marquette to go after?

I would not know about Marquette future coaching. After yesterday, I am not holding my on Bradley winning the conference. I was unable to watch the game but just basing my opinion on comments and the quotes from Wardle post-game summary. I would have liked to heard it.

I wonder how a game like that affects Bradley's chances with this weekend's recruit.

Did you suffer a concussion over the weekend because we have all seen this BU team play and they do not have the talent to win the Valley or the V.Tour. We have played two games against Murray St. and ISUR and gotten blown out.

I’m thinking Marquette & maybe K-State, Notre Dame and a few others will be calling Josh Schertz in March

a mention that Loyola might consider hiring Brian Wardle....
LINK

Wardle's salary at Bradley is in excess of $800K
Current Loyola head coach Drew Valentine's salary is reported to be a little over $500K

But Wardle is from the Chicago area and Loyola might be considered a step up by some.

Wardle's been mentioned numerous times over the years for various positions, but nothing beyond the "mention" stage. If Loyola were to hire him, they would have to at least match his current salary. Would be more of an incentive for BW to get more than his current salary to take into account the higher cost of living in the Chicago area. Also, have to take into account whether or not he would want to inherit a dumpster fire at Loyola just like he did at BU.
