Coaching Carousel

Very good story but my opinion is he left for the money just because it could set him and his wife up for life. Coaches from smaller schools only get one chance of getting a big pay day after having a very successful season and he is taking advantage of it now. He could possibly fail at KSU but I guarantee you that there will be other schools willing to hire him because of his prior success. I also think it will be much harder for him to win at KSU then it was for Schertz at Slu. The big 12 is so much better then the A-10.

NIU hires D2 coach Matt Majkrzak
Interesting... Matt Majkrzak is the successful head coach at Northern Michigan University. They are a #5 seed in the 2026 Division II tournament and they play their first round game tonight at 7:30 pm against #4 seed Rockhurst. So the official announcement of his hiring at Northern Illinois will be delayed until the season is over for Northern Michigan.

Matt Majkrzak has been the head coach at Division II Northern Michigan University for the last 7 seasons. Prior to that he was head coach at Bryant & Stratton College-Wisconsin, and prior to that he was an assistant coach at a couple D2 schools. He is referred to by some as a "rising star" in coaching. But his first coaching experience was as a manager, then as a student assistant at Wisconsin-Green Bay under Brian Wardle. Majkrzak remains close friends with Coach Wardle and they stay in contact with each other.

He and his team visited Bradley last year when they were playing in the D2 NCAA Regional at UI-Springfield-

Casey Alexander to K-State! That has to hurt Belmonts continuity for next year! However, if Belmont can find a new coach who can bring players with him, one never knows!

One of the greatest Loyalty is Ben Jacobson at UNI. He's really an Outlier in today's world! I'm sure Casey was upset also that his championship Bruins had their worst game at the worst time this year! That's frustrating after such a great regular season to know the Valley only gets 1 team to March Madness. Of course unless your undefeated in Regular Season! I can't blame him for taking K- State job. Now he doesn't have to worry about winning a conference tournament to get a NCAA bid!

K-State has been to the NCAA Tourney just once since 2019 - same as Bradley...
and their coach who was just fired has an all time .750 winning percentage in NCAA Tourney games,
That is better than Bill Self, Tom Izzo, John Calipari, Rick Pitino, Mark Few, & Dan Hurley.
It is just shy of Mike Krzyzewski's winning percentage. I have hard time believing Casey will be successful there...time will tell.

Career Record at NMU: 135-72 (85-47 GLIAC); seven seasons.
Bio (record is through six seasons): https://nmuwildcats.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/matt-majkrzak/499
NMU is scheduled to play this evening against Rockhurst in the NCAA DII regional quarters in North Canton, OH. Not sure if Majkrzak will be coaching the team.

Kudos, I think, to NIU AD Sean T. Frazier for not hiring an obscure assistant with no head coaching experience and no relevant contacts, like the last two NIU head coaches.

I wonder if this new coach will bring any of his NMU players with him. Will he be successful in getting NIU men's hoops out of its 50+-year embarrassment?

Northern Michigan, coached by Matt Majkrzak, was ousted from the D2 tournament Saturday, losing to Walsh University.
Now Jeff Goodman and others are reporting that Northern Illinois will hire him as their next coach, and an official announcement is imminent.
Another tweet indicating Majkrzak will be NIU mbb's new coach. Casey Ford is NMU athletics pbp guy.

I'm surprised they didn't call Gregg Marshall.

Btw, Bob Huggins will be 73 years old when next season gets here.
