Interesting... Matt Majkrzak is the successful head coach at Northern Michigan University. They are a #5 seed in the 2026 Division II tournament and they play their first round game tonight at 7:30 pm against #4 seed Rockhurst. So the official announcement of his hiring at Northern Illinois will be delayed until the season is over for Northern Michigan.
Matt Majkrzak has been the head coach at Division II Northern Michigan University for the last 7 seasons. Prior to that he was head coach at Bryant & Stratton College-Wisconsin, and prior to that he was an assistant coach at a couple D2 schools. He is referred to by some as a "rising star" in coaching.
But his first coaching experience was as a manager, then as a student assistant at Wisconsin-Green Bay under Brian Wardle. Majkrzak remains close friends with Coach Wardle and they stay in contact with each other.
