CollegeHoops.net has begun their profiles of what they call their Top 144 for 2007-2008.

#144 Oakland University
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_oakland_basketball_preview40940
The Oakland Grizzlies are picked as a contender for the Summit Conference (formerly the Mid-Con),
but are not projected as a post-season team. Their leading returning scorer is Eric Kangas,
a 6'4" sharpshooter that Bradley recruited.

#143 Mississippi
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_ole_miss_basketball_preview40941
Mississippi lost most of their NIT team to graduation and defections.
They are picked to finish 12th in the tough SEC, and miss the post-season.

#144 Oakland University
#143 Mississippi
#142 Jackson State
#141 Sacred Heart
#140 Eastern Kentucky

(seriously, Sacred Heart? In the story about them they note that 2 starters are gone including their top scorer from an 18-14 team.)

That's it for me - Zero credibility.

Give UofI some credit, they'll have a solid season. I can understand not liking them, but on paper, most would say they'd be better than us next season.

Most people would say that because they only follow Big 10 basketball. If they actually followed all college hoops, they would know that SIU and Bradley will be as good or better than Illinois next year.

As good? So a site loses credibility for being in the right area, and come one lets not kid ourselves, the Illini's recruiting class, is probably more talented than ours. McCamey is Top tier talent, Jeffrey Jordan as a walkon? I do think Cole is a little overrated, but none the less. U of I is proven. BU's not. I think BU will have a great year, but putting U of I in the 40-50 range is a very solid prediction.

Completely agree with vbird on his call about U of I. You can talk recruiting all you want, but U of I hoops is definitely on the downslide.

With DePaul coming around, and the possibility of ISU getting back on track, IMHO U of I could very well slide down to #5 in the state...behind BU, SIU, DePaul and even ISU. Sure U of I will grab more supposed high profile recruits and get almost all the sports pages publicity (we ALL know who gets the lionshare of pub in the state), but in terms of actual play on the court and overall TEAM strength, it will be VERY interesting to see where how the various schools in Illinois stack up by season's end. :-o

I agree with you, but you are missing the point. I KNOW BU and SIU will be good, I KNOW some people think ISU will be good(I disagree), I KNOW Depaul is heading in the right direction. My point is that picking U of I in the 40-50 range is not something that should make a website or writer lose credibility. They will be a solid team. You can have your opinion on where they will be, but I'd U of I in the 40-50 range is a darn GOOD estimate of where they'll be next year, maybe even higher.

FYI These guys have SIU ahead of U of I

I saw all the Illini recruits at the IBCA game, and my honest assessment of Dmitri McCamey is that he is as good and as skilled right now as Deron Williams was as a soph or junior.
He will be starting soon after his arrival.

Cole and Tisdale have taken some lumps, but they more than held their own against guys like Evan Turner and McCamey, and Fay & O'Rear.
Many of the Illini people who saw the game (and have commented over on their board) have noted that Fay was as big, strong, and good as any interior player they have, and they believe they missed the boat on him, too, but Fay did not dominate Tisdale, and but for one dunk by Fay, he really had to battle for his shots and threw up a lot of fade-aways and hooks, and had to step outside a few times to get his points.

Cole, Tisdale, and McCamey are all kids who will likely stay at Illinois 3-4 years, while the Ohio State and Hoosier recruits will be one or two years only so I don't think Illinois will be falling off too far.

No program in the nation has won any more over the past 3-4 years than Illinois, so I am not ready to write them off.

My thoughts exactly. Only with less experience seeing them play. (I've seen McCamey once and Cole once)

CollegeHoopsNet has an article with their updated Top 50 for 2007-08

Definitely no credibility - Illinois in 41-50.

I was just having some fun... my LOL Smiley was to hint at it.

The next couple teams in the rankings have been named:

Here's what's been named already:
#143 Mississippi
#142 Jackson State
#141 Sacred Heart
#140 Eastern Kentucky

and now:
#139 UCF (University of Central Florida)
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_ucf_basketball_preview40952
#138 Iowa State University (even though they were 15-16 last season with the 203rd best non-con SOS.
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_iowa_state_basketball_preview40953

But hopefully they will build a good RPI next season, they play BU in Peoria on Nov. 14.

Well, since we are not in the Top 50 and they are counting down and are under 140.... with teams like Sacred heart and Iowa St... we MUST be 51.

(Note: a 'wink' and 'lol' smiley - I am just joking around)
