CollegeHoops.net Top 144 countdown

Two more slots named....further destroying these guys' credibility by naming UWGB and High Point!

The next couple teams in the rankings have been named:

Here's what's been named already:
#143 Mississippi
#142 Jackson State
#141 Sacred Heart
#140 Eastern Kentucky
#139 UCF (University of Central Florida)
#138 Iowa State University

#137 High Point
http://collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_high_point_basketball_preview40961

#136 University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_uwgb_basketball_preview40962

I just want to point out couple things about some of the teams mentioned....

Sacred Heart - Northeast Conf - ranked 29th in RPI last year - the highest ranked RPI team in that conferece was rated 147.

Jackson St - SWAC - 32 - 168

E Kentucky - OVC - 26 - 117

High Point - Big South - 28 - 70 (Winthrop)

Marist - Metro Atlantic - 25 - 104

So far these predicted conferences winners are sprinkled in with 'tuff' bottom-dwellers of BCS conferences (and I am guessing UCF as their predicted 2nd or 3rd place finish in C-USA). With about 74 more BCS teams and about 20 more conf champs to be rated, that leaves 40 slots. I think we should make the list.

Sit down Mac...you are in for a HUGE shock....
You were guessing maybe they had UCF as 2nd or 3rd best in Conference USA, so that maybe only one or at most two more CUSA teams would be in the final 136 teams...

Guess again....just look at the text of the report they give on UCF...
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_ucf_basketball_preview40952

They have UCF pegged as the 6th best team in CUSA

That's right.they have FIVE more teams just from the CUSA in the top 136.

#144 Ole Miss is the 12th best team in the SEC, so they have 11 more SEC teams above them (one of them has already been named at #134, South Carolina.)
#138 Iowa State is pegged to be the 11th best team in the Big XII, so they have 10 more Big XII teams.
And based on their others so far, the have 3 more Horizon teams, and haven't even begun to name Big East, ACC, Big Ten, Pac 10 and other top teams/conferences.
It'll be interesting......I will bet they only have 3 or 4 MVC teams in the Top 144. They may even have Bradley at 150 or above!

Well, I am not shocked about them ranking (almost) EVERY BCS school in the top 150. But if UCF is 6th by them along with 3 Horizon teams... and we haven't even brought up the Atlantic 10, Mountain West, and WAC.... yea, maybe BU is out.

Probably better that way anyway  We never get no stinkin' respect :x

Jl will just have to tell the boys to play with another chip on the 'ol shoulder (I sure hope we don't run out of chips)

I love flyin' under the radar.

And IMO, no... you never run out of chips so long as you continue to get rewarded by your results.

The newest additions to the Top 144...........

#138 Iowa State University
#137 High Point
#136 University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
#135 Marist
#134 South Carolina

#133 Louisiana Monroe
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_louisiana_monroe_basketball_preview40969

and

#132 Charleston (formerly known as College of Charleston)
(they were 2nd in the Southern Conference last season and got no bid to any postseason tourney, but they lost 4 of their top six scorers!)
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_charleston_basketball_preview40970

Here's what's been named already:
#144 Oakland University
#143 Mississippi
#142 Jackson State
#141 Sacred Heart
#140 Eastern Kentucky

#136 University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
#135 Marist
#134 South Carolina
#133 Louisiana Monroe
#132 Charleston

Here are the current new picks:

#131 St. Johns
They pick St. Johns as 14th in the Big East, so look for 13 more Big East teams in the next 129 slots.
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_st_johns_basketball_preview40971

#130 Utah
They pick Utah 6th in the Mountain West, so there are 5 more MWC teams.
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_utah_basketball_preview40972

Here are the teams we KNOW beyond question will be in the next 124 selections because of the statements already made...
1 more Summit Conference team
10 more SEC teams
1 more Ohio Valley team
5 more CUSA teams
10 more Big XII teams
1 more Big South team
3 more Horizon teams
2 more Metro Atlantic teams
2 more Sun Belt teams
2 more Southern Conference teams
13 Big East teams
5 Mountain West teams
1 more Patriot team
3 MAC teams
8 more Big Ten teams
1 more Big West
7 more MVC teams

This accounts for 68 of the remaining teams, so the ACC, the MVC,
the Pac-10, WAC and all other conferences account for the remaining 67 teams.
I am predicting 5 or 6 MVC teams among the yet-to-be-revealed top 129 teams.

As there should be.. c'mon this is THE Big10 we are talking about.

(of the 8, I suspect 7 will be Top 50)

This is pretty shocking but yet pretty complimentary of the Valley.
In other words...they have 8 Valleyteams in the top 124
and as it sits now they will have only 8 more Big Ten teams as well.
It'll be interesting.

Here is one line from that report in Indiana State:

"The MVC is down, but not far enough down for Indiana State to find the top. The potential is there for a top five finish in the conference..."

Wow...he is saying the MVC is "down" but yet he still has 8 Valley teams in the top 124!
ps--- in 2006-07 only 7 teams finished in the top 124 RPI, and in 2005-06 only 6.

Stop The presses.
If he says Indiana State is "in the top 5", then that means there are only 4 more VALLEY teams? Not 8.
Which is good, because my BU at 119, is still alive.
Besides this poll, or whatever it is means absolutely zilch!

!

The author says there is "potential for a top 5 finish", but if you go to the story itself, you'll see that the Sycamores' "conference rank" is 8th, i.e. an 8th place MVC prediction.

Darn, I guess my BU at 119 is DOA then!
