CollegeHoops.net Top 144 countdown

#76 is Northern Iowa, chosen to finish 5th in the Missouri Valley
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_northern_iowa_basketball_preview41054

This writer uses the exact same term as he did in the Illinois State report,
"logjam of talent", this time "on the wings" instead of "in the frontcourt" as they noted in the ISU report.
The writer thinks Travis Brown will be relegated to the bench", and also think Eglseder will not start.
"With a little more beefing up, Koch will help UNI fans forget about Stout."

I wonder what UNI fans think about that?

Personally I think UNI will battle for 3rd or 4th in the Valley, and I think they will utilize Eglseder in a starting role.

The writer also says:
"many of the newcomers will battle for starting jobs..........
...Josh Molstead, Drew Lundberg and Matt Culliver will compete for minutes running the point."

I doubt it...as I think Ahelegbe is clearly their choice to start at point, and Reed, Brown, Josten, and Viet
will take up most of the PT at guard. Maybe Culliver, because he comes in as a junior will get some time, but I think Montgomery will even get PT ahead of Molstead and Lundberg (especially since it is widely believed that Lundberg may be redshirted like Molstead and Dunham were last year.)

#75 Texas Tech - 8th in the Big XII
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_texas_tech_basketball_preview41055

I haven't see Jose either posting or lurking since we moved to the new board.
This will end up being one of the longest, drawn out pick-ems we've ever done, so I hope I can track down whoever wins!

I'd guess Bradley in the 50's, Creighton in the 40's and SIU already named 34th.

Then again... was looking back at the Top 40 already mentioned and realizing at the bottom of the list is the next 10 in alpha order... no Creighton (or BU). So I guess BU and Creighton will be in the 50 to 62 range.

--added comments--

This all makes sense really. The "Mouthpieces" (aka "Crackpipes") don't think much of the MVC, so 1 team in the Top 40 with 2 more on the fringe far enough out to be considered locks for the NIT is par for the course.

1 bid league baby - whoohoo.

Thanks, IHBU, their prediction of Bob Huggins' Mountaineers is pretty bold given
that it's his first year with a bunch of kids he didn't recruit, given that they concede there will be a "vastly different style of play".
They are classifying (see last paragraph) Joe Alexander (10ppg last year) as a "superstar",
but in the end, 9th in the Big East and NIT.

BTW-- in our collegehoopsnet Pick-em of where they are going to pick Bradley,
there are ONLY 22 remaining entries with a chance to win, so we are getting close
..................actually I think Jose Cuervo is not going to win, so the odds are even better.

Whatever people say about Huggins, one thing is for sure, that he is one heck of a coach and recruiter. I met a player of his from K State on a plane in March and he told me all the players would run through a brick wall for him. Look what he did for K State in a short time period. UWV does have some players coming back.
