CollegeHoops.net Top 144 countdown

I agree Huggins is a good recruiter and a good coach.
But Huggins recruits on talent alone, and is never bothered by little things like the kids' character or his academic ability.
If you don't let those things slow you down, you can get some pretty good players.
But given all the 3, 4, and 5 star players, he hasn't made a big splash in the NCAA for a long time, at least not considering how many McDonald AllAmericans and Top 10 recruiting classes he had.
But none of his kids will graduate, many end up with criminal issues, and few if any ever have any lasting impact anywhere.
I hear all the time about how many players Huggins has put in the NBA.
But when you actually look, you find names like Tony Bobbitt, DeMarr Johnson, Corie Blount, Danny Fortson, Jason Maxiel, Ruben Patterson, Kenny Satterfield, Dontonio Wingfield, etc.
All mediocre/journeymen, no real impact players despite all the talent he had.

Well there goes my guess. I had #61, and thought I had a real good shot at winning. Oh well, can't complain about being too high I guess...

That's right, how did you know?

collegehoopsnet has

Creighton at #60 - 3rd in the MVC despite starting four players who played little or none last year for the Bluejays.
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_creighton_basketball_preview41084

So this is how they see the Valley for 2007-2008:

in 8th place- and ranked #124 Indiana State
in 7th place- and ranked #109 ISU
in 6th place- and ranked #93 Missouri State
in 5th place- and ranked #76 UNI
in 4th place- and ranked #64 Wichita State
in 3rd place- and ranked #60 Creighton

They have yet to rank SIU, Bradley, Drake, and Evansville,
but I would have to believe they have Drake and Evansville in 9th and 10th,
and BU in 2nd, SIU in 1st in the Valley.

Oklahoma at #59 (6th in the Big 12)
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/2007_08_oklahoma_basketball_preview41085

Either way this is surprising to me. I would be shocked if they pick BU at #2 in the valley, at the same time I'd be hardpressed to believe they would pick us so low either. Picking us that low would be a total lack of respect to a team with back to back 20 win seasons. back to back post seasons, and return their starting backcourt which consists of 2 potential 1st team all conference players in Crouch and Ruffin. Interesting.

Most of these preseason preview people simply don't have the time to do exhaustive homework on 336 D-I teams. So they rely heavily on a simply reckoning of who each team has coming back.
BU follows two consecutive 22 win years by returning not just their two leading scorers, but also the two best returning scorers in the entire league. That alone places BU easily in the top few teams in the judgement of the prognosticators. That's why I am certain BU cannot be in 9th or 10th while they have drake or UE in 2nd.

Recall that both Lindy's and Athlon preseason Preview Issues are out, and they have BU picked 2nd (Athlon) and 5th (Lindy's). In letting BU slide to 5th, Lindy's cites that Bradley will have no experience in the post. But they are wrong.... as BU has Matt Salley and a couple solid juco and newcomer options. Very FEW MVC teams can even match that in the post, maybe only UNI (Coleman) and SIU (Falker).

I picked my number late and most of the choices I would have picked were taken......somewhere in the 40's was where I thought.....

34 would be GREAT!

Here is the link to the collegehoopsnet.com Pick-em
http://www.bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?p=40729&highlight=collegehoopsnet#post40729

Given that the guys who picked #1 and #146 & #150 are not going to win,
and the guys (sorry Biff, coachdude) that picked #22 & 34 are pretty unlikely,
I'd say that only maybe TEN guys are left in the running!!

Well, here is their Top 50:

Since Bradley isn't mentioned in their Top 50, I think it's gonna be one of these:

52 beyondthearc14
53 Bravesguy
54 Long-Hair's Lunatics

Next 10: BYU, Florida, Georgia, George Mason, Illinois, Missouri*, Providence, Texas A&M, Wichita State, Wisconsin

Those are the next 10 teams listed in their top 50, meaning teams 41-50. If you notice, they name Wichita State in the top 50, when Wichita State has already been mentioned as being #64. So you can't compare the 2 different articles.

That's right brocks....the Top 40 that they did (once in April and updated in June) were done by a different writer (Shawn Siegel).............so you cannot safely use it to determine what Mr. Welser is going to do with his Top 144 countdown.

Oooops! Thanks bugregshu. I guess I can't see the forest thru the trees. Was looking for BU and a school without the letters b-r-a-d-l-e-y slipped right on by.

So far, they have been projecting NIT for postseason for their ranked teams (unless it was a smaller conference winner).

I wonder who will be their last NCAA team with an at-large bid to get in?
