Connor Hickman enters portal

Ummm...ok? seems odd. It would seem like a lot of places would have interest...what is the draw for him to go there?

They also signed Colby Duggan...a player BU had interest in...seems like we never get a break, in fact it's always like double whammy type stuff...they get a recruit we are looking at AND take one of our own...

eh, no big deal. Hick will play 7 or 8 games and struggle with injuries the rest of the year, and BW will get us the right guys we need to compete like he always does. I'm more concerned with the losses we're taking on the coaching staff, especially if DB goes. He may get some players to follow him, and I think we all agree that he is a big reason some of our guards played so well, so let's hope that's not true!

My guess why he chose Charleston is his top priority was to go to a winning team for his final season of eligibility. Charleston is coming off a 24-9 season and they were 13-5 in the CAA. While there is no guarantee for next year, they should be picked high in the conference next season.

Seems like a lot of places fit that bill...heck I'd imagine we will be picked fairly high in our own conference...but oh well.

I like Connor Hickman and woulda loved to see him head back to Bradley.
Charleston finished 3rd in the CAA conference, a league that was ranked (by NET, RPI & other measures) as being considerably weaker than the MVC.
Connor will be facing far weaker defenses, even teams that were well below the 300 NET range (like Geno Ford's Stony Brook), and all 'the teams are way out on the east coast- difficult for Connor's family to ever watch him, as they did often in MVC play.
Heck, most of the CAA teams I'd have to Google to find out where they are- teams like Elon, Hofstra, William & Mary, Campbell, Drexel, etc.

Remains a head scratcher to me...and again, like I said when he went to Cincy, seems like a mistake.
But it's his choice..hope it works out for him.

Could be Charleston just had a nice bag$$ for him for some reason. I'm sure he got a decent amount from Cinci, maybe he is just trying to get $$ before he has to evaluate playing pro or not overseas next year.

Nothing else makes much sense because this is a downgrade in every other way

Conner is a good player at the Div 1 level, but I believe he has no future at NBA. He might play in Europe at the lower level, but he’s not like Steve Nash.

Maybe BW wouldn't guarantee him a starting spot and Charleston did.

LOL, egib... any coach that "guarantees" starting spots is asking for disaster....
even hinting at it might hogtie a coach if the recruit is selfish enough to demand his "guaranteed" playing time rather than earn it.

but it does remind me of the Tyrone Cole-Scott situation here at Bradley almost 20 years ago.... the story of a recruiting miss gone bad...

Somehow, despite never being GUARANTEED anything, Cole-Scott was recruited to Bradley and BELIEVED he was
given some sort of guarantee and was going to be given "Will Franklin's playing time"
(Will started & played 35 minutes per game in 2006-2007)

TCS said so publicly during the well aired dispute he had with the Bradley coaching staff. Then, after got here & was given plenty of playing time and opportunity, but he was terrible in real game situations. And his bad shooting, turnovers, and selfinshness hurt the team. His wide open, pojnt blank bricks and missed layups on perfect assist passes ffrom Daniel Ruffin drove everyone crazy.
He probably cost DRuff at least 30 or 40 assists that season!

By the end of the season he was benched, and all-he** broke loose. He and his family went whining to Kirk Wessler,
who was openly anti-Jim Les and enjoyed the opportunity that fell into his lap -
and freely published all the claims the Cole-Scott family made but never bothered to seek the truth or any comment from JL, so the two of them ran a multi-week barrage of slams against the BU coaching staff, making
ridiculous claims - but the biggest lie was that he was GUARANTEED a starting spot and "Will Frankin's playing time".
In the end he left & transferred and never produced at his next couple of DII schools either.

LOL I remember TCS getting like 20+ at the Red/White game at the fieldhouse that year, then he started playing in real games and was TERRIBLE.

Oh I totally agree, but I bet that in the transfer portal era players are probably seeking such guarantees. According to NIL numbers now being released, starters get paid at a higher rate than bench players.

I thought TCS had 36 pts against St Ambrose in the field house?:-o

yes- it was a preseason exhibition game in the old Fieldhouse vs. St. Ambrose -
They were weak, he went wild and threw up shots from everywhere and looked by a prequel of Steph Curry,
scoring 36 in only about 21 minutes
It fooled a lot of us and probably even the coaching staff into thinking he was "the man" - but it was fools gold.
