Connor Hickman injury

Late in the game, Connor Hickman came down awkwardly on his left leg, and appeared to sprain the left ankle. I hope that is the extent of it, and that there is no fracture or ligament tear. Coach Wardle said after the game that he would definitely miss some time and that he will be evaluated tomorrow.
Let's hope he can recover fully before the next phase of conference games starts.
Fortunately, after the game in Akron on Tuesday (Dec. 5), there is a 10-day gap until the next game Dec. 15 against Cleveland State.
And the next MVC conference game is not until January 3 at Valparaiso.

Paging Burch and Ellis. You’re needed on the court stat. We might need to play Davis at the two guard sometimes at this point. Please get better quickly Connor!

Davis cannot be a 2 guard. We are in trouble because we do not have enough guards on this team. Pettegrew leaving hurt and Ellis has not shown much so because we have so many bigs sitting at the end of our bench we are way short of guards.
Linke, Biliew, Thomas equals too many bigs on a team that needs more guards.
This day and age you need 3 point shooters more then you need post men. We have Hannah, Leons and Jonovic which to me is plenty of inside players. Those 3 are pretty much the reason why those other 3 are not needed unless you just want practice players.

Actually, in certain rotations Davis plays the 2. We can’t force feed more time for Ellis - he isn’t ready. I guess we start Burch, which scares me.

Help me remember the One earlier this season. I just don't recall another, and the elbow to the nose certainly didn't stop him.

It was not Connor who had an ankle injury earlier, it was Demarion Burch. He turned his ankle in the Tarleton State game. I am sorry to have gotten that confused. Connor is as tough as they come, and we are hoping he is OK and can return quickly.

Didn't Conner have an ankle injury during last year's season?

Never want to see a player get hurt. Hope it is just a sprain. I would think Connor will be unavailable for the next game. But with ten days before the next game maybe he will be ready to play. Let's hope so.

According to reports, he sprained his ankle in a practice on November 17, 2022- https://twitter.com/icetimecleve/status/1594038438898155521

Connor missed one game, the home win over SEMO on Nov. 19, 2022, but then returned and played in the Nov. 22, 2022 game in Cancun against Auburn.
He played 28 minutes in the Auburn game and tied for the scoring lead with 15 points.

Connor was also reported to have had an ankle sprain his freshman season in December, 2021, following Bradley's win over UTEP in the championship of the Sun Bowl Tournament. The next game against Bellarmine was cancelled, and he played the following game, so he didn't miss any games.

I seem to recall a few instances where he rolled his ankle and stayed in the game or came back in pretty quickly too. Probably a product of just being the mix and going after things aggressively, but he does seem to have ankle things more than most players.

The thing is until he has x-rays it is hard to tell if is just a sprain plus some sprains are a lot worse then others. He could be lucky and only miss one game since we play Tues. night at Akron and are on finals break for 10 days. We need to get more out of Ellis , Burch will be fine and yes he makes mistakes but he is just a freshman with a huge upside.

I heard an update this afternoon that is a bit reassuring... the injury is not too serious, and he most likely won't be out that long.

That is a positive note to end the weekend on! We need a healthy Connor Hickman in order to be successful this season. Point blank.

Hickman had some nagging issues with his ankle last season but played through it, and as you noted late in the season,
in mid-February, and Dave Eminian also noted, he rolled it again but didn't miss any time.

Tonight showed how important he really is to this team, especially if Mal is off. I hope the doctors are smart and don't rush him back. We should be able to win the next four without him and I'd rather he's totally healed for the rest of the Valley season.

Over the next 4 here's my prediction.

2-2 without Hickmania
3-1 with Hickmania

Hope they prove me wrong but, they haven't been proving much lately.

Very hard to predict how many games we can win unless we get many weaknesses fixed. Free throw shooting and rebounding have been stinking bad. I would hope Connor is available for our next game simply because he is not replaceable on this roster.I also hope the staff figures out how to tweak our offense so we get back to passing more and dribbling less with a lot more movement.

Of course it's difficult to predict but aside from the "road" game in a high school gym, if we can't beat three average teams at home, we have a lot bigger problems. Murray State (even with just an average team last year) is 14-3 in their last 17 home games, Indiana State might be the best team in the Valley and Akron is picked to win their league. We're not talking about losing to the Little Sisters of the Poor here. It's really easy to let the pendulum swing way too far from wow we should be ranked (we were never THAT good) to now we can't teams at home (also an overreaction).
