Connor Hickman injury

Of course it's difficult to predict but aside from the "road" game in a high school gym, if we can't beat three average teams at home, we have a lot bigger problems. Murray State (even with just an average team last year) is 14-3 in their last 17 home games, Indiana State might be the best team in the Valley and Akron is picked to win their league. We're not talking about losing to the Little Sisters of the Poor here. It's really easy to let the pendulum swing way too far from wow we should be ranked (we were never THAT good) to now we can't teams at home (also an overreaction).

I think 2-2 and 3-1 are entirely fair predictions based on our recent play and not overreactions at all. I haven't seen a sign of improvement since Murray and we don't have our floor general. The season is not lost but we have very little margin for error since opening conference play 0-2. The valley is going to be an absolute grind every time out this season and my honest assessment is it's going to be very difficult to be in the top 4 for Arch Madness.

It definitely will be if we have to rely on a select few to score.

He's better. I'm hearing there is a chance he could play Friday, but maybe a better chance they'll wait until the next game in Akron (vs. Duquesne) on Monday. They'll decide tomorrow.

Why are we playing in Akron on Mon. vs Duquesne? Is it part of a tourney?

No. It is a home game for Duquesne. They have played occasional games in Akron, at LeBron James' old high school (St. Vincent-St. Mary HS) since 2018 after Keith Dambrot took over as head coach.
Dambrot was fired as head coach at Central Michigan in 1993 for using a word considered a slur. However, he did not use it as a slur (It's a long story, so read the Wikipedia link below). Nonetheless, he was fired and blackballed from coaching for the next 4 years. St. Vincent-St. Mary HS hired him, and he went on to have tremendous success there, including coaching LeBron James. He eventually was hired by Akron, where he continued having success, and not at Duquesne. So now he plays a game once every year or two at SVSM in Akron as a tribute to them for hiring him and resurrecting his career.

Any word on Hickman for Duquesne? Personally I'd prefer we give him extra time to heal before the conference season heats up. There's little value in risking him against Duquesne when I doubt we'd win even with him on the floor.

I'm going to keep checking on this post to see how it ages. We just lost to an average team at home. I don't see us winning on the road/neutral site game on Monday. And honestly I'm a little concerned about SIUE on our home court if Hickman isn't in the lineup. 2-2 best case. 1-3 worst case. And if for some reason it's 0-4....I see full meltdown mode coming lol. I hope these boys prove me wrong. Didn't see a whole lot of fire in them for most of the Cleveland State game.

Connor dressed for practice today in Akron, but still no word whether he'll play tomorrow- https://twitter.com/BradleyUMBB/status/1736490442496090257

My post is 1-for-1 completely accurate and I'm not going to hide from it. I said, "we've got a lot bigger problems if we can't beat some average teams at home". Well, I never would have imagined we'd turn the ball over constantly and completely forget how to rebound. Combine that with Hannah really having a rough stretch and none of our decent three point shooters being able to hit a shot. Those are much larger problems and can result in bad losses to literally anyone. We "could" lose every game for the rest of the season, but we won't, obviously, nor should we lose any of these games in the previously noted four game stretch although the Duquesne would at least be understandable.

Watching the results from the Valley lately, basically everyone has been having some tough, head scratching losses other than Drake and Indiana State. Coach Wardle always seems to find a way to get his teams to right the ship at the beginning of or in the middle of Valley play. I'm just not going to get too high or too low because from what I've seen of this group, they are neither as good as our 6-0 record nor nearly as bad as our last four losses indicate. It's closer to the 6-0 team (with Hickman). I think people are so used to everything being so instantaneous in life these days that they forget that these college kids are not pros nor are they finished products. There are highs and lows, especially at this level, that we don't want to acknowledge sometimes.

All good BUBraves2006. I did not mean to quote your post, I meant to quote my own. I'll blame it on a fat finger. I don't disagree with your points. We aren't as good as that 6-0 start and we're not as bad as our current 0-4 streak. Hoping we find a way to break the losses tonight, it would be a good W for the team (and fans). Sometimes being a fan is frustrating, sometimes it's all unicorns and rainbows. It's what makes college ball so great. Go BU!
