Creighton player diagnosed with unusual illness

I actually had a bout with this a few years back. Very frightening experience when you don't know what is going on. After the diagnosis it's not too bad. He is likely going to be on steroids for 3-4 weeks...and after about 6 he should have almost all of his feeling and muscle control back in his face. Some people never recover 100% but most do and any lingering effects are usually not noticable.

I was told by my doctor that once you have had this virus, you are more likely to have it multiple times. I have not yet, luckily.

I think the paralysis is actually caused by the inflamation of the nerve. It passes through a very small passage in your jaw/cheek bone and when it becomes inflamed it pinches and causes the partial paralysis. It's more annoying than anything.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

"a fracture of a small bone" in the foot may sound like a minor injury...and I do not know the details of Millards injury,
but there is one "small bone" in the foot that if fractured, can mean so darned much trouble that it can be career ending.


a "navicular fracture" might heal in 6-8 weeks but commonly takes four or more months to heal...and can end up needing surgery.
