Dana Altman to Iowa?

Iowa, good luck getting Altman. He could probably go just about wherever he wanted if he wanted to. I think Katz is smoking something. Does Altman have any special contact to Iowa? In my mind the Iowa job is a step down right now. I could see how Iowa would want him instead of that ______ they have now.

It's been long rumored that Iowa is the one job Altman has always coveted. I hope it doesn't happen. Losing Dana Altman would be devastating to the Valley as I see him as the biggest reason the Valley is where it is today.

He has turned down countless offers to remain in Omaha and thus helped legitimize the Valley as destination as opposed to a rest-stop.

I hope he doesn't go to Iowa. and for the record, I want no part of AlFraud
 
I think this rumor might have some legs. Altman was very close to going to Illinois three years ago but backed out because the athletic department nixed his plan to bring all his Creighton assistants with him to Champaign. If Iowa doesn't have a hangup about such a condition (provided Dana insists on it again), I could see this happening. Many Valley watchers are amazed that he's chosen to stay in Omaha all these years. Just like Mark Few, I think Altman knows a good thing when he sees it. It wouldn't hurt for him to listen to an offer from Iowa City or anywhere else that may be interested in him either. In the end, nothing would surprise me about his situation in the post season. He has been a boon for the MVC, and until Bob Huggins got to K-State, you have to figure it galled many Wildcat fans to see the success he's had at Creighton after he left Manhattan.
 
I really hope he doesn't leave. For every ounce of me that hates Nate Funk(a envy hate) there's two that really respect Dana Altman and what he's meant to the MVC. I really hope he stays, he's a huge asset.

Supposedly Iowa is one of the only jobs Altman would consider leaving CU for. IMO Altman could make Iowa a national power, and I think would make the state of Iowa a MAJOR recruiting battleground along with McDermott at Iowa St.
 
Iowa would be a step down. He is compensated very well by Creighton and that salary is supplemented with another 1/2 mil. annually by the "coaches circle", top 15 nationally in attendance, and close to home. If/ when he leaves CU it will be for one of the handful of truly elite programs. He won't be looking to spend several years building a program. He's got a good gig. Creighton and Omaha have done their best to do right by him. Bradley and Peoria should take note.

Excuse my ignorance (my wife does it all the time) but what is the "coach's circle"?????
 
"Coaches circle" is a booster group that involves an extremely high level of donations. It's made up of just a small number of donors, but they have to give a large amount yearly to join this level. They get very close access to the coach and the program. Bradley has a similar program called the Braves Scholarship Society.
 
I read last year that the coaches cirlcle at CU has over 120 members requiring minimum annual dues of $5000. The difference is that in Omaha the organization was formed for the sole purpose of supplementing Atlmans salary (to the tune of $500,000 a year) in addition to the speculated $8-900,000 he gets from the university. I believe the Scholarship Society at BU requires $30,000 annually and the funds benefit the athletic department.

I know there are some people on here who can speak more to the details of the Scholarship Society ;), but I believe the minimum is $15,000.
 
Yes, the Braves Scholarship Society requires $15,000 per year, and requires a minimum 3 year committment.

Wow! Holy Schnikees! For that kinda bread you'd better be able to call a few plays each game. Maybe those were the games where Les' coaching was called "questionable" in past years :lol: :wink:
