I agree that's the problem. If I was a full season ticket holder, I would be extremely upset if I was unable to see Michigan State, Gonzaga, Illinois, or anyone else play in Peoria because the PCC was already booked and Bradley built an on-campus arena that only holds 4,200 and that's where the game is to be played. I'm not sure how this situation helps with donations/maintenance fees from season-ticket holders if they end up not renewing because of this situation.

Get serious, you know Bradley wouldn't schedule those mentioned teams if they had to play in the new arena. In fact I doubt those teams would even come here to play in front of 4200. That's one of the reason the Braves moved to the tremendous arena at the Civic Center, to better their schedule and they did.

Just going by what the AD said (that scheduling is the #1 practical reason for playing a non-conference game at the new arena) and what other examples have been given here.

Besides.......I did say "or anyone else". That pretty much includes ANY opponent.

Hypothetical question, would you rather have two home games vs Tulsa in a smaller arena or one home game at Carver and two road games? We get two home games in 2008 and my money says we win the CBI instead of finishing second.

Maybe this arena is "upgradeable"

Maybe you can just pop the roof off and attach more seats so it can easily transform into a 23,000 seat arena?

We could just disband our basketball program too.

I'd rather not shut out 50% of the people that want to be at the game(s).

When it comes to men's basketball, I really don't see any reason to have anything other than exhibition games at the new arena.

I know what you said, but I wouldn't consider Michigan St, Gonzaga or Illinois just ANY opponent. I do agree with your later post, nothing but exibitions in the new arena. Looks to me like the new AD has yet to learn how much Bradley basketball means to Central Illinois.

I see no use in getting all uppitty about this until you find out that, 1.) they are actually scheduling a reg. season game there and/or 2.) you find yourself on game day without a ticket.

I still don't mind if they schedule a game there I guess...think it would be a cool change of pace and I believe the sellout crowd(s) (sitting right on top of the court) would be awesome (and really loud).

If I don't get a ticket, I'll be that much more ready the next time they play there.

Y'know, something that hadn't been mentioned is that the band will probably take up a section of seats. I dunno how many kids are in the band - or if they'd all be asked to play if we actually do play a game at the new arena - but I think its safe to say they'd probably take up atleast 50 seats.

Id be sick if I didn't get a ticket..........only missed 2 home games since '86......I hate to miss them....Im sure others feel the same way. I don't donate large amounts of $ to the University (would if I could), but I don't miss home games...go to 3-4 road games/year and don't miss the tourney. "Obsessed" with BU basketball would be a good word....Now there may be 5000+ people like me who could get shut out of any game played at the new arena.

I think the diehards will find a way to get there, but its tough if you have to go stand in line for a ticket all day when you have to work everyday. I wonder how BU will sell tix for this game...I assume they would probably not take phone orders for such a game. Its gonna all depend on how many of the people who just go to drink beer, and how many of the "corporate" ticket holders pursue a ticket for a game at the new arena...that may weed out a few.

I think this is a great way to creat a buzz/interest whatever to sell those licenses. This building was built to be used, not to sit ideally. It was also built to generate (hopefully) revenue from Womans Basketball and maybe gain some interest in Womans Volleyball.

What is the best way to sell those licenses? Put something that 11k are willing to go and watch in Peoria... Mens Basketball.

Lets be honest even if BU played a Mens game in the new arena and everyone was upset... how many actually would just flat out stop going to the other home games that season and how many would actually not renew or want season tickets? Maybe a few, maybe alot but enough to make a difference, doubtful.

Those who can afford the licenses will continue to give the money to the University, those who can afford the season tickets without giving huge amounts will continue to buy the season tickets, and if they dont someone else will.

And BU if they win games will continue to fill Carver arena with 10K plus even if they play one single game on campus.

The school needs to move those licenses and I bet those who promise to buy those license are very interested in a men game. Sorry but money is going to win out over everything else.

And I am willing to bet and I believe BU is too that even if they move a game to campus and you cant attend you still will buy the season tickets and you will still follow BU.

It may not be right but lots of things are not right, but making use of that arena and making revenue is going to trump right everytime.

I agree....but we could have done this same thing with the Field House for the past 20 years...people loved that place...why not play a game there every year?....If it wasn't that beneficial for the past 20+ years...why now all of a sudden..did we end up spending more than we thought?.....and now need money?.....First we alienate a few fans by not having a post season banquet...now a few 5000 more by not having enough space to meet demand......why?....we are giving fans excuses to not show up to Bradley events by canceling or not meeting demand when there is no reason I can see to do so.

All that being said.....I think the game at the new arena would be a blast..fun..its packed...but everyone knew going in it wasn't reasonable to play there with the fan support we have...its just too small...no matter who we play we...we could play St Marks 8th grade team and draw more than 4200. We(BU) should have tried to go bigger or accept what we have....cant have both really.....and I know that going bigger wasn't feasible for multiple reasons...this new arena is just going to tease everyone and make them long for a larger on campus arena even more....the women are lucky to have it, should be a great place for them to play. It really is too bad that the Men's team....who generates the vast majority of the $$ for BU doesn't get to play there......and if they do, many of the people who do support them all year every year won't get to see it live.

I have to disagree that shutting out half the people that want to be there is a good idea. My feelings on this are even stronger when they shut out the people that go to all the regular season games by playing postseason games at the new arena.

We won't have to worry about postseason games there....we will be at NCAA sites? right?

We have no idea how this will be played out but I like the idea that the school has options. Will they use those options or will the PCC people take it serious is the question. I'm sure the administration is quite aware of your concerns and hopefully they will do what is in the best interest of the University and program. Sometimes what is best for you is always best for the program and when tat happens you can only hope that their reasoning makes sense.

So is it better to have 11,000 people trying to find parking or the fact that half of the season ticket holders won't be allowed to attend a home game because they can't afford another $1,000 for 1 game?

I dont think there are 9,000 season ticket holders... the average attendance for BU home games was 9339, and i doubt that 90% of those were season ticket holders. Yes a game at the new arena will make getting a ticket more difficult, but it shouldnt be impossible. A non conference game vs. someone no one has heard of would be perfect for the new arena, and if we are playing in anything less than the NIT next year i would consider it a disappointing season and would not expect too many people to want to go to a post season game of a lower tournament ( though i'd still be going cause thats what loyalty and supporting your school is all about).

I think if used correctly this could be very good for creating a good atmosphere and be a nice change for BU.

I think he was roughly estimating it. There would be accommodations for students, faculty, guests of players and coaches (a surprising number), etc. so at most there would be 3000 or so tickets for season holders and it would not surprise anyone if BU had 5-6000 season ticket holders. I also think you're grossly underestimated the popularity of BU Basketball if you don't think too many people would want to go to a post season tourney besides the NIT, especially because you can't just look at next season. There were CBI games with 8000 people, and thats not inflated due to season ticket holders. Half those people would be shut out if it were at the new arena.

I haven't thrown out my opinion on the PSO plan but the more I think about it the harder I am struggling to find the sound logic in holding regular/postseason games there, but it wouldn't be the first time I've disagreed with something this administration has done regarding athletics (see FGCU). Let's hope they keep it to exhibition games...
