Dave Snell Joins Bradley Athletics Staff Full-Time

I gave you a nearly 200 word answer to the quesiton you asked....talk about griping over getting exactly what you asked for...

I don't need to have anyone ask the coach any questions....
Dave Snell isn't working for me...I want Dave to work for the betterment of the team and the program...period...
BTW -- I think Dave Snell is more knowledgable about basketball in general and about BU and his sidekicks (JS & CB) add so much, that personally I think they tell us all we'd ever need to know...
They even have hosted the radio call in show for years allowing you to add or ask just about any question you want...and on top of that the local press had long demanded a degree of openness and answering to the press that's way beyond what most media ever asks....the head coach isn't even allowed to make his mind up about starters at game time - he's expected by the locals to call and tell all to the beat writer.....
I really have no idea what you're talking about with this lack of "hardball questions"......there's plenty of ways to get any quesiton you want to the coach.....and we even had Coach Les live on the chat here asking you to please give him some "hardball questions"....so what MORE do you want???

I agree, Dave is very well versed in basketball and BU history.

I do not believe that the broadcasters tell us all we need to know. If that were true there would be a lot less rumor-passing on this board and others.

What would I like to see asked of Coach Les?

Why were players arrested and allowed to play? Why was a player allowed to take pictures of professors and tweet about their sexuality? Why did certain players leave the university? Why are some players never given minutes? Why was an assistant coach "fired" or why did he "leave" during the season? etc.

When I look at the questions that you are wanting to be asked to the coach, there in all honesty are only a couple of questions that could be answered on an open media format. A person representing a company or in this case a University, really can't for legal reasons make a statement as to why an assistant coach left a program.

You can't ask why someone left?

Why not?

You should have asked him your questions when he was available for the chat Tuesday.

If I had been available I would have.

Again, I hope BU and Coach Les have a great year this year. Again, I realize because I do not donate enough money to BU that I am not fan enough according to some people who post here.

But I will stick with my opinions.

JD, this is not an issue about money, and I know you are a big fan. But Bradley already has more than its share of detractors, so why do our fans want to try to slant everything in a negative light, and continue to drag up old issues that have already had way more made about them than they deserve. The TB tweeting incident has been made into something on the level of a capital crime by JL-haters, and its been fully dealt with. Now you still want to drag it out more, along with other 2?? year old issues that have long ago been dealt with. Nobody at BU considered the tweeting incident to be anything more than a minor thing for the coach to deal with. IMO this seems like trying to create issues where there are none.

I was giving examples of questions that could have been asked before. I did not mean to say they should be asked now.

I know some people think BU is 100% perfect and want to project that image. I understand that. I just wish some things were dealt with openly and honestly.

No more, no less.

Regardless, I am sure Dave will do his new job with the same great energy he does his broadcasts.

You can't ask why someone left?

Why not?

They could ask the question but a person who is a representative of the company/University has to be careful as to what they say. Your previous post mentioned a question about a person being "fired". I don't know if you see this at your work place, but companies are very conservative as to what they say especially in a public format about a former employee for fear of legal recrimination.

Many people don't want those questions asked for a VARIETY of reasons......to some it ruins their ISU tickets posts...SIU police beat reports and reminds many BU is no better then those same universities they always want to call out.

Also if those questions are asked directly of the coach then some can't come on here and tell all us dummies that those tweets were not really a big deal.....that the players arrested and allowed to play were not REALLY arrested and it was all just some big to do about nothing.

In other words why search for the truth when you can spin the truth and distract by focusing on rival programs problems.

Dogs, the haters never let the truth get in their way.
No matter how trivial any issue is, and its not me saying the tweeting was trivial, its everyone at BU all the way to the top. This thread shows pretty clearly that despite no major legal or disciplinary issues for years, people still want to drag up ancient minor stuff to try to reflect anything negative they can at BU.
You and anyone are free to wallow in your disdain. Or in your search for truth.
BTW, whatever happened to 650k...3-2-1?

Great news that Dave is joining BU and will be teaching a course in sports journalism. The sign up for Dave's class will fill up quickly.

So far, I really like what Dr. Cross is doing as the AD. Go Braves.

Why were players arrested and allowed to play?..

Given that this is a Dave Snell thread, it is sad that it, like so many other threads, deteriorates into a BU-bashing thread....but since you brought it up...

no player that was arrested was ever allowed to play the next game...the one you are likely referring to was cited for an underage offense - but NOT arrested - and the offense, which has since been removed from the player's record, was about as minor as they get but was NOT an arrest..it was quite a bit different from an arrest for DUI or drug possession...(as have happened to so many other MVC schools nearby)...no Valley school can cite more strict discipline that what BU has...and we have plenty of examples (at other schools) of coaches getting arrested and players with alcohol offenses who play the very same night that they appear in court for their charges...but it does NOT happen that way at BU - so you are mistaken...

..or maybe you are referring to another nearby university where NOT ONCE - but TWICE recently players got DUI's and never served any kind of suspension, and where players not only took pictures in class and commented, .....but even took video of their classrooms and made vulgar comments...

Agree, I like that BU is hiring people who have the experience to teach the kids. Great to have that real-world experience to use in teaching.

I'm getting a little tired myself of reading about other schools problems, or another coach's problem. Bradley has had their share of problem kids over the years also. So I just bypass them and go on to threads that talk about what I got on this board for. Bradley basketball.
IMO, Dave will be a great plus for the program.

In every market and every sport the radio guy for his team is a complete Homer! When they leave the reservation for any reason they are more then likely reprimanded or asked to find another job. Older more established radio men are given a little leeway but at the end of the day they know who is paying their salary. That is just the way it has always been like it or not. BTW I believe BU has one of the best with Snell and I listen to quite a few play by play guys.

Exactly! We should not be wondering if/when we will ever get a "fair" question from Dave to the coach. We should be asking that of the news media like the local sports guys working for the news stations and the local newspaper writers.

In fact, Dave Reynolds was present in the chat room four days ago......why didn't HE ask the "fair" questions? THAT should be in question before Dave Snell's pregame/postgame interviews.

This...after an hour-long chat by JL with Dave Reynolds present for the entire thing......

Coach Jim Les: Dave, your silence is deafening! lol
DReynolds from x.x.x.217 joined the chat 3 seconds ago
DReynolds: I'll have my chance.Don't worry.

Really? You just had an hour and didn't ask a single "fair" question.

I've noticed around here the only time to care about another program is when it seems to put Bradley in a worse position or make Bradley look bad somehow. Otherwise, it's the standard "I don't care about other teams". :?

Great points Chico. Coach Les even said the same in the chat transcript. We have to worry about Bradley, not other programs.

I also agree, Dave will do well in his new position.

I don't know what makes someone amazing, so I will leave that out for now.

As for promoting Bradley and serving it, well I know many who fit that bill.

I also do not know what bias you are referring to either.

However, I do find it interesting that the new AD would hire inside BU, when all we have heard about is getting rid of the old and remaking the image of the athletic department.

I also find it especially hard to believe we will ever get a fair or balanced question from Dave to the coach before or after games.

If you want a bias, that might be it.

I just don't get your negativity towards this hire BradleyJD. Snell was most likely far and away the most qualified candidate for this position based on the sole fact that he has been associated with Bradley broadcasting for almost 30 years, and associated with the university since his days as a Bradley student for even longer. Why would you not hire him?

I don't think him being good friends with Les had anything to do with the hire either. Whether Les, Molinari, the late John Wooden, Coach K or Bobby Knight were coaching this team, he still would have been hired. I don't think his friendship with Les will influence him in his job either since this is a communications position, not an assistant coaching position. So I don't know what one job would have to do with the other.

Snell is the ultimate class act, and I have enjoyed listening to his broadcasts and sports reports ever since I was a student at Bradley in the early 90's. I hope he stays with the university for at least another 20+ plus years!

Congrats Dave! You certainly deserve this promotion! :D

Maybe I'm dense, been told I am, but what's your point? Are you saying I want to make Bradley look bad? As much a non-isu fan as I am, I don't think I have ever responded to a critical thread concerning them or any coach except to say I don't care, and I don't even do that anymore. If I misunderstood, sorry.
