Difference in PJ Star coverage of local teams

How about the most recent headline "Leads, game dissolve for Bradley"

Perhaps it should have been "Bradley lets one slip by" or "Western Carolina holds serve at home" or "Catamount rally dooms Braves"

Certainly a lot more positive than "Braves fail to hold lead"

Ugh. That ugly "F" word. What difference does it make how it's said when it's all just different creative ways of saying the same thing: BRADLEY LOST.

IMO, Kindred wishes he wouldn't have to write what he had to last night, but as long as JL is BU's coach, KW enjoys it when he has to write about how bad the Braves performed.

OK Chico, have it as you say, if he really (witch I know he does not) enjoys it, one true way to shut him up is for BU to up their performances:!: Many more poor performances like the last home game and he won't have any problems getting his full enjoyment, as you think:)

Ok, 1 potential headline that would work for all......... "Duke fights off upset minded and short handed Braves to win by 38"

Happy?

A Devil of a Good Time.

Though disappointed, Bradley players look back on Cameron and its crazy atmosphere.

:)

I truly have no problem saying that KW does not like JL, IMO. I think that in some of his columns that he comes across that way. I have no problem with that, KW is writing in his columns what his opinions are. He is speaking his mind, plain and simple. I just don't get why others don't get that.

Now I do have to thank DC for starting this thread, as it has given me much enjoyment today. I don't think I have laughed this hard in a long time! Great job of keeping the mood light!

red-herring = DC +T :lol:, Red-Herring:lol: OH, LORD BB:lol::lol:
I guess thats better than being a Redheaded step child, guys:lol: JK here

And a big thank you to BB for pointing out what red-herring means:lol:
RED-HERRING:roll::lol: Come ON Man:lol::lol::lol::lol:

....That is his job as a columnist. Get people talking. Sell papers.
so...let me get this straight and the priorities of a "columnist" in proper order of importance
#1 - stir the pot
#2 - sell papers
#3 - be fair and reasonable - avoid exaggeration and hyperbole..
#4 - be honest
..gotcha........

Two things:

1. Reynolds and Wessler don't write the headlines. Reporters/columnists never do. That is left to the copy editor ...

Wessler is a columnist who is supposed to state his OPINIONS. He doesn't have to show a modicum of fairness if he doesn't want to.
...

..so you're saying that the guy who is the "Executive Sports Editor" ..doesn't have a say at all over the headline?
I concede your right to believe that if you wish, but I sure don't.

..and yet another person who agrees he doesn't have to show fairness..
so if he doesn't then why is everyone so upset when we notice it, and talk about it??
Like I said -- I just call a spade a spade...they have every right to be anti-Bradley, but I am not going to say they are pro-Bradley just because a bunch of Kirk Wessler fans get on the boards and rant...

My takeaway from this thread is that there are people who are easily rubbed the wrong way by one columnist in Peoria, Illinois, but they keep giving him attention obsessing over what they see as an agenda.

If KW is really reading this, he has got to be laughing his tuches off!

And I can't tell you guys to go outside and play, seeing how it's cold and cloudy out here in P-town.

IF its "only 38" I'll write the headlines on my chest and stand on top of McCluggage to announce it.

:)

Its like the Mom thats watching her 2 sons in the marching band and both of them are out of step with the other 198 members.... then mom shouts out..."oh look....the ENTIRE band is out-of-step with MY 2 boys." :)

OK, I don't think KW does JL justice, but with everything going on we're discussing this?? I get it in the off-season, the rehashing non-basketball related arguements... but we're actually playing basketball now... (depending on your point of view ;) )

I
These titles and the article itself are all about how good UNLV was and how their defense caused all the problems for poor ISU. Nothing about ISU stinking up the Redbird Arena. In fact, the article is quite kind to ISU.
Now, anyone can have a bad game, and lose big to a good team, but does anyone here believe for 1 second that if this was Bradley getting blown out at home by 30+ points there wouldn't be several articles and columns in the PJ Star attacking the Braves, blaming it all on the coaching, asking why the players and coaches shouldn't be embarrassed, or calling for a regime change?

I think Asian covered this a bit but its worth repeating. ISU just came off a fairly good 3 year run...nothing spectacular but good. As was stated...they were expected to be down a bit this year...the MVC IS cyclical and down trends are expected.

Go back and pull up some article during their 8-9 year PoMo/Richardson debacle and I bet the tone was a tad bit different especially during the END of BOTH guys tenure.....

Huh? So this is all about the last 8-9 years history? That is a new and creative justification for the stark difference in the way ISU is covered vs. Bradley. Sorry, but I don't buy it for a second. It is a bias, pure and simple.

Now you know how most of us feel every time a new thread is started that attacks the coaching and reminds us where Bradley has finished each of the last 8 years. :)
