Doug Elgin to ISU, etc... "embarrassing"

Understand the viewpoints on conference members scheduling. IMO we need to worry about the ability of the team we are putting on the floor. Doesn't matter how we schedule if we dont win a lot more. We need to have balance in the schedule. WSU is a perfect example, they had the # of wins to get a look, but their schedule was too weak. They add 2 upper mid-majors and win those games, they are in this year. They had no balance...no middle ground.

I think we need to concentrate on getting Bradley on track instead of worrying about what the other schools are doing, when BU starts getting into the championship game multiple times then we can worry about some other teams schedule and how it effects us.

This was my point- rather than blame other schools- we schedule well, WIN, and lobby the conference to hold other's feet to the fire as well, WIN...

Braveman, how the other Valley teams schedule does affect us:. If they have a low SOS, that will weigh heavily on theirr RPI.
Thus when we play them, win or lose, we will have our RPI affected negatively.
That is why, before The Valley season began, we had a pretty good SOS, but once we started playing in conference it fell all the way to 147.
Actually, depending on the situation, you could lose to an high RPI school and your RPI would still benefit.

I Understand it affects other teams- but since we were a maddening 16-15, it makes no difference... We cannot control how anyone schedule but us, so whining about ISU and others on a message board does nothing...

The bad overall SOS for the Valley quite possibly cost the conference $1 million. If that does not hurt us a little I guess we are doing pretty well financially as a program. WSU had no chance of making the dance unless they won yesterday and we can point to the SOS as part of that equation. Yes winning can cure the SOS dilemma but going forward it is in the best interest of the whole Valley to make sure we never have to worry about it. For the individual schools, it probably is not a big deal but for the conference and 1-2 teams it is huge. There really should be no argument about this:confused:

Speaking of officiating- I thought the officiating at the MVC tournament was outstanding! They had mostly the veteran officials working the tournament, and the games were called differently than most of the games during the season. They didn't call the ticky-tack fouls, they never called any carrying the balls, and only a rare moving screen, and didn't call any of the notorious MVC charging fouls under the basket that we always see so much of.
And there were no fishy late-game clock malfunctions, or suspicious calls.

Great job by the officials this year.
So if they can get good officiating in the MVCT, hopefully we can get it during the regular season.

Ya come to think of it, I watched every game except the play in games cause they weren't on tv, but I don't remember the officials at all which is good. I thought the flow of the games was better than the regular season games because all the stupid little calls weren't in there like the unnecessary charges you spoke of. Always good when the officials go unnoticed, nice job.

Well as has already been explained above, there are plenty of reasons why the other teams should be encouraged to schedule up. This is not whining, but explaining to all the conference members as to why this is important.

I think what he is saying is let Elgin handle it.....we sit here at, like he said a maddening .500 and yet some just keep harping on ISU's sked ad nauseum.

ISU scheduled bad...we know it,, they know it. Let it die. Thats their problem and Elgins.

We have enough of our own.

We schedule a tad bit better but can't win so let fix OUR house first.

Sorry to disrupt....

But.............if we played a tough non-con....and BEAT all these MVC teams with weaker RPI's....I think our RPI would do just fine 8)

The only thing ruining anything for anybody is losing.

All we had to do was win our home games to be on the NCAA bubble. Take away 4 or 5 of the home losses, and our RPI is probably 50+ spots higher, we get a TV BracketBuster game, have a better seed in the NCAA's, and are probably being talked about in the NCAA discussion. Who'da thought losing at home would be our Waterloo?

Haha can't this be generalized to losing!!!!!!!

If we went 40-0 with a crappy SOS I don't think anyone would care!

ISU's schedule was pathetic. It's not like it was just one season either, this is like the third straight season it's affected them.

They can hammer on our 20 win seasons because we got there through the CBI or CIT, yet their regular season schedule is filled with teams much worse who can't even make either tournament.

Not picking on them, but just calling it like I see it.

Just curious was O.E. an acronym for Old English 800 or was it like Mowie wOwiE! (just curious if anyone wants to elaborate). :)

Just did a little research.

7 Valley teams played vs. an opponent with 3 or less wins ALL SEASON!
EVERY Valley team played at least 1 opponent with 6 total wins or less!

So even with a good job of scheduling for Coach Les, you have to question why they played Idaho St. (5 wins) when it wasn't even a requirement to play in a good tournament. On the other hand, nice job to get Western Carolina to come to Carver...although I wish they hadn't!

DC, I agree. I thought the officiating was very good except the WSU game Fri. Night. That one left a lot to be desired. Believe that was Pollard and 2 guys I don't remember seeing. The white haired gentlemen was the main problem. He made several calls not in his area of responsibility. That means he was ball watching and I'm sure the gentlemen whose area it was in had a chat with him. I have seen alot of basketball this season and not once have I seen someone make a call so far out of his area. THe WSU coach went nuts and I don't blame him. When Pollard was the best on a crew that should tell you something. Out of 9 games only one bad, that is great improvement from past years.
