If this guy realy is tough bring him on! I like guys who bring a ton of intangibles non-box score pluses to our team. We need another guy who will not be afraid to bring it down the middle of the lane and take a few hits. TW was our guy last year and I expect to see TB and CR take the mantel but the following years it will be good to know that he can do it.:D
 
I have never seen DSE play but from everyone's reports I have grown to really like him. He sounds like a basketball player. He has some flaws but DSE seems to overcome those with a bit of an "it" factor and, frankly, special teams always have a player or two who fit that mold.

It seems DSE isn't a bad shooter just an inconsistent one. He'll have plenty of time to become more consistent in all aspects of his game.

He could really be a huge steal this late in recruiting period.

By the way, if you ever talk to a college coach or anyone involved in recruiting, one of the words they use the most in describing kids is "toughness".
That's where I got the term from in DSE's case, someone accustomed to evaluating high school talent.

Well of course I hope DSE turns out better than Rashad Austin or Ray Brown. But I wouldn't take one DSE over a dozen Shea Seals, Rico Hill's, Anthony Parker's, Deon Jackson's, Nate Green's, or Rodney Buford's.

Yes people use the word "toughness" alot. I get it. Its an impossible thing to judge objectively. I was just curious what made him "tougher" than many of the kids you've seen in the MVC. I was wondering about that specific comment.
 
recruiting is a crap shoot, and just as many players fail, leave, transfer, or get booted at BCS schools, as happens at Bradley or smaller schools.
two just left at Kansas, Indiana, Iowa State, and Georgetown, three at Florida, and four just left at Iowa.

Who has said any of these things?

Personally, I prefer four-year guys over JUCO's but that's just my preference. I agree recruiting is a crap shoot. People on BOTH sides need to understand this. DSE coming to Bradley is no less/more of a crapshoot than a kid going to Missouri State. That's why I don't get worked up over the hype of recruits.
 
 
Since no one really answered my question, if he was from somewhere other then Peoria would everyone be so big on this recruit? Ill stay out of the whole discussion because I truly think everyone is big on this recruit because he is local. He does not fill a need and I really dont believe that even in the long term he will be an answer at either the one or the two.

I am much more excited about Eastman, Prosser and Knezevic. If he signs I hope he proves me wrong. I am still big on Thompson and did like Austin so it is likely I dont know a whole lot. :)
 
answer - no...
but midmajors quite often go for kids who are under the radar and DSE's injuries last summer put him there

But Lee your comparing an unknown in DSE to proven D1 players in Seals...Parker...Jackson...etc. Who were these guys BEFORE they became solid to very good D1 players? Were some of them DSE's....we won't know until he actually comes here and has time to develop into what he will be.


Also EVERY player you recruit isn't going to be or reach that list you just gave. My goodness..you just listed some of the alltime Valley best.

A good team is made of of MANY parts....not all will be stars. For every Parker a team gets they will have 10 times as many Will Franklins...Gavin Schaiers....Matt Salleys....

Of course being local he's going to get more people talking about him...but really we talk about ALL are recruits. Just go to the recruit site.....there are long and short threads about EVERY player we are looking at.

I think the talk about DSE has been very cautiously optomisitic....I haven't seen one person say he's a savior or a MUST get. The talk on him has been very open and honest when they are assessing him.

I understand DogsRUs. I was only responding to Da Coach who said he preferred DSE over Rashad Austin and Ray Brown. It was the same argument he used--but opposite (if that made sense).

Of course not every athletic, 6-6 type recruit is going to be Shea Seals, Rodney Buford, etc....but they aren't all going to be Rashad Austin either.

I originally stated that, all things considered, I preferred an athletic, 6-6 type over a 6-2 shooting guard. That was my point.

I merely responded by saying that Rashad Austin has a year of eligibility left. My meaning was that the type of 6'6" athletic players who are left to recruit are not exactly difference-makers. And I doubt any college coach would take just any kid over DSE just because he's 6'6".

I compared DSE to Dodie Dunson. I think they are similar players, and I have heard others who have seen them more than I have describe them as similar players, too. Dodie will be gone after next year. Wouldn't Bradley benefit from landing another kid who can do as much for the team as Dodie does?
I expect DSE to have a much bigger impact at Bradley than Rashad Austin, and who knows if he can be as good as Deon Jackson, Nate Green, and the other players you listed. But nobody knew what those guys could do when they were in high school either. Shea Seals and Rodney Buford were the only ones who were very highly rated in HS.

Dyricus....Kansas State is bringing in yet another combo guard that they want for next year (Class of 2009).
They don't even have an open scholarship, but it is suspected they will boot one of their players (Fred Brown) if they need to.

Fair enough. I dont want just any kid either---just because they are 6-6. I later said to DogsRUs, that, all things equal, I preferred a 6-6 type kid than a 6-2 off guard.

Im not a guy who obsesses over local kids. In fact, I think they get a bit overhyped. That's just my opinion. I won't get anymore excited over DSE than I would any other kid. Its just too unpredictable and we dont know enough about them.

From what I hear DSE will be a nice MVC player. That is a good thing if he goes to Bradley. But I was hoping to go a different direction with the last ride but this late in the game the staff needs to get the best available player they can.

I don't think its fair to say they are overhyped...I think its just natural to talk more about a local guy. You have many more opinions due to the fact many more guys have seen them play...that leads to more discussions/arguments/opinions about their abilities.

Again...I don't see where anyone has overhyped DSE. Infact I would offer, as I stated in another post, people have been very fair and honest in assessing him IMO.


Sure you get an occasional homer or 2 but don't wouldn't you expect that?
