Down to two...

Why I like local kids-

Why I like local kids-

The reason I like local guys is because of the caliber of basketball around town. There has not been the individual talent around lately that there used to be. Overall, even secondary players in the area often are succesfull in college. That is the only reason I care more about locals. That and the fact sometimes we may get in on kids that wouldn't consider BU if they weren't a fan to begin with.

Good point camelot.

Since no one really answered my question, if he was from somewhere other then Peoria would everyone be so big on this recruit? Ill stay out of the whole discussion because I truly think everyone is big on this recruit because he is local. He does not fill a need and I really dont believe that even in the long term he will be an answer at either the one or the two.

htb...I tried to answer your question honestly (and without any local bias) in my previous post. I don't know any recruits from Ames IA :), so I just tried to provide my own perspective on DSE, after watching him play for Washington for the past two years. I have compared him favorably to a current UNI player, who is a legit candidate for preseason POY in the conference next year. Does that mean that DSE will also achieve that level of accolade for BU or KSU? IMO, that's impossible to say...but his style of play, build and overall athleticism remind me a great deal of Ahelgebe.

And IMO, he does fill a need, in that Roberts and Dunson will be graduating after next year.

But what do I know...I'm just a homer promoting a local kid to play at the local college. ;)

I am much more excited about Eastman, Prosser and Knezevic. If he signs I hope he proves me wrong. I am still big on Thompson and did like Austin so it is likely I dont know a whole lot. :)

If I had seen him play like i have and he was from Iowa...yes I would be big on him...he is a fine player regardless of where he is from....

Seems to me this works the other way around as well. People may not believe he is worthy of a Bradley basketball scholarship simply because he plays high school basketball in close proximity to Bradley University. That doesn't make much sense either. It worked out rather well for Crouch, Ruffin, Adams, and Sommerville recently.

Whether he will compare to Nate Green, Shea Seals, Randy Buford, or Anthony Parker I do not know.
I do know one thing, he will give you 110% effort all the time, every time, on both ends of the floor.

I cetainly agree.

Besides, outside of the Walk-ons, it's not like Jim Les has been giving away roster spots to local kids. You didn't see JL offer guys like Josh Edmonds, Justin Dehm, Breland McKnight (grades may be an issue), Paris Gulley and Blake Mishler. These are/were borderline D-1 players coming out of high school, that Bradley did not go after.

Jim has a responsibility to get the best players he can, and DSE is one of the best available players left.

It is possible that Jim Les might have offered those you named, or others a walk-on spot on Bradley's roster. I have heard that he has done this in the past to kids like Ryan Thornton. But the cost of going to Bradley when a kid's family has to foot the bill is far higher at Bradley than it is at ISU or any state school. So it will always be harder for a school like Bradley to recruit quality walkons, unless there is some kind of promise the kid will get on scholarship his 2nd year like Drake does it.
