Drake @ Bradley Post Game--DU 69 BU 68

I know this might sound crazy because we didnt do this all game but what about playing zone at the end of the game??

Towards the end of the game they were driving and getting lay up after lay up after foul after foul and we could do anything about it. Play a zone with a least 2 big guys (Austin/Singh/Salley.. not Collins just simply because he didnt play all game) wilson sm and whoever else.

I think it would have thrown them so off guard and we would have had rebounders in the paint in position at the end, and they hopefully would have never got in the lane that easily.

SOOO frustrated right now. I even tossed my bradley shirt in the garbage after the game. I consider this season worthless unless e somehow dont play on thursday which sems impossible right now

From what I could tell from my seat, we did just that. The ball just happened to go right to a Drake player both times.

If you're going through a season like Drake, this is one of those games where you look back at it and say, "Man, this is our year." The sports gods are on their side right now. Just one of those things...

Why not just grab the rebound and then Drake probably fouls you while going for the ball. I understand that there is very little time to think like that and that you are just trying not to foul them but seriously, if you can get enough of a hand on it to swat it away, then pull it into your body and take the foul.

I need to see a box score to be sure but I thought coach Stowell said TW had 9 t/os tonight? I mean thats the worst inbound plays.....2 steals at the end of the game to get them back the ball of inbound passes being blocked? Not good....great game by SM....and good game by AW tonight! So close yet the last 10.3 seemed to last about 15 secs...3 shots put up after bring down the ball?

At one point in the first half, TW had 5 turnovers, but RA had just made a couple effort mistakes and got yanked, but Jimmy kept TW in. It was pretty funny, I thought, WIlson started to go the bench with a knowing, shameful look, but as he walked by, Les gestured to him to go back on, then waved at RA to sit down. I don't think we seen RA after that. You have to love Wilson for his effort, but good grief, he's not even 200 labs. and is only 6'5", and he plays almost all game at the 4. In years gone by, it was a struggle to see the likes of Rosie Davidson at 6'3" and Funches at 6'3" play the 4 and even 5, but at least they were in the 220's.

Easier said than done when there are six guys around you in a big bunch.

BU gets outrebounded 34-27. I'm pretty sure BU had the rebounding edge after the first 10 minutes, mostly through hustle. But as our guards got winded, DU dominated the glass and DU's guards could take it to the hole with no inside presence to stop them.

After posting 59 collective minutes against UNI, the group of SS, MS, and RA play a total of 40 minutes tonight. Meanwhile, TW plays 35 minutes (all at the 4 spot), SM plays 37 minutes, JC plays 37 minutes, and AW plays 36 minutes. Can someone tell what's wrong with that picture. :-o

9 turnovers and he is still inbounding the ball late in the game?! Why coulnt one of our 4 guards take the ball out?

I haven??™t complained about the refs all year, but I just have to make two points. Why did the refs not call the 5th foul on Leonard ???Woofin??™ Man??? Houston late in the game? After all the cheap fouls they called on our defense, Houston fell over our guy and almost took him to the floor. And that brings up my 2nd point. When Drake spread the floor whomever had the ball just ran straight at our guy pushing off with his off hand and Drake would get the call. The refs just would not let us play defense.

That said Drake played a nice game. I do not wish to take away from their win.

Sam Maniscalco is a big time D1 player. JL said in the post game show he doesn??™t consider him a freshman any more.

I don??™t think Drake??™s pressure bothered us that much. Nonetheless, we still turned it over. The problem was the turnovers for the most part were unforced. We couldn??™t inbound the ball late in the game. Our lead went from 7 to 2 in about 10 seconds. Also, I thought we milked the clock too long when we had a very slim lead, too slim to not work for a good shot. As a result we either took a bad shot or turned the ball over. One in particular stood out when Salley mishandled a bounce pass that should have resulted in a flush.

A heartbreaking loss to say the least. We just have to rebound against Evansville.

Is there a replay of that shot anywhere, I don't know how they would have got that off. I watched the replay on the scoreboard and it looked like the guy who made the final shot got his hands on the ball with 0.2 seconds left, but I thought that the rule was that if there is .2 seconds left that it has to be a tip shot and it looked like he grabbed the ball and then shot while in the air which would take longer than .2 seconds. Why was there no review at the end of the game?

It was easily good, not sure what replay you were watching. The ball went through the hoop, then the light came on.

Les should be utterly embarrassed by the way he coached in the last 3:20 of the game. A 7 point lead...Drake brings the all-out full court pressure for the first time in the game, and you can't draw up a play to even get the ball inbounds on two consecutive possessions. And in between those turnovers, your team gives up an uncontested layup on a junior high inbounds play...7 point lead to a 2 point lead in 10 seconds...and your team looked completely unprepared...disgusting, embarrassing way to waste away an outstanding gutty performance by Maniscalco.
Congrats, Jim...Keno Davis just made you look like a 3rd grade girls basketball coach tonight...in your own building. Kudos.

Wow. And I thought I needed a drink after tonight.

....and one last point: they scored inside on inbound plays like were weren't even there....gee, I wonder why? I'm thinking AT may be thoughts may be shifting between two poles: On one hand, they need a 4 or 5, man, I will play big-time here, on the other hand, they have three guys already who they barely play, maybe I should think about leaving? How in the heck did POB manage to succeed? OF course his minutes were never theat great, but then we were left with the impression they were easing him in and coddling him some due to conditioning and fouls...in some ways like you'd treat a young pitcher. Now, I have no idea what they are thinking. We are playing short (in more ways than one--height and bench) and losing consistently, at least play bigger and we at least have a shot to rebound and defend and screen. With a 190 lbs. 4, three guards, and 6'7; over-matched forward, we have proven it really does not work.

Ok, now I think I'm done ;)

The shot was good...there is no doubt about that.

TW's 9 turnovers hurt tremendously..especially in the second half...and AW's turnovers didn't help...13 between the two of them

The refs may have been inconsistent a couple of times but we got just as many breaks as Drake. I though Houston got fouled on his drive where he picked up the T
They also could have called TW for traveling a couple of other times as well.

I'm a little curious as to why AW wasn't guarding Houston the last 10 minutes...I thought he was doing a good job on him.
He is a very hard guy to guard for sure.

Their pressure hurt on the inbounds

Neither team had an inside game....

31 had one of the softest touches I've ever seen..especially for a big guy.

I like when JL had AW and JC come around for an easy shot at the ft line in our offense against their zone..maybe we could have done that alittle more

You have to like SM more and more with each game

Please remember this was our 1st really close game for this team. Let's hope we learn from our mistakes and use this heartbreaking loss to build off of.

Unless you are qualified to be an NCAA coach, lighten up on ours! I'd have to think you wouldn't even be discussing the last play, if you had those "bigs" in the line-up. Drake would have probably drained an open look, or drove in for a foul on the last shot. Plus, most of the complainers would be upset that we didn't play our guards against a team that presses as much as Drake. And they'd be complaining about the 30 turnovers we would have had.

Amen from the choir;-)

What bothered me about the press in the last 4-5 minutes was our lack of plays. We ran the same **************** play three times and each time the guy guarding the inbound tipped it.

Can we try something new? Maybe run a different look?
