DSE development

Compared to who? The kid can play ball and has better court vision then anyone else on the floor. He was even hitting the long 3s last night. He's as ready to start as any of our starters and plays fearlessly.

Fair enough. Everyone sees it differently.

I think he still has to work on his long-range shooting. I know he hit a couple last night.

Either way, he has been a very good pick up by the coaching staff.

His 3-point shot may not be as pretty as JC's, but it's looking smoother, and the biggest thing - he shoots with confidence!
DSE has hit clutch shots already as a freshman - with 2 other guards who are used to being called on to take clutch shots.

DD's injury has been a blessing for this rising young star.
Next year, they'll be on the floor together.

DSE is as solid of a Freshman as we have seen since Danny Granger. He's got stud written all over him.

Besides his great play he also carries his self way beyond his years. If you ever look at him after we have lost you will see a guy that is truly pissed off and I bet you he is the type that will work his tail off during the off season. I hope we are not over hyping him but if this guy improves just a bit more every season the sky is the limit.

You could argue that Sam Maniscalco's freshman season was better, averaging 7.7 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds.

Statisically agree. Plus, they both have lion hearts when it comes to winning and being confident with the rock in the closing moments of a tight game. I give the nod to DSE though because of his size and therefore the perceived future upside to go with his 1st year accomplishments ... I am biased toward taller players.

2-0 with DSE replacing Brown in the starting lineup. I like Brown's jump shot a little better but I think DSE and SM's speed is causing some problems for the opposition. If this lineup can win at Creight on Saturday, then i'm thinkin big things down in STL.

How quick we forget-
Jeremy Crouch's freshman stats from 2004-2005:
Started 24 of 28 games, played 26.6 mpg, 8.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.8 apg, 46 for 125 (36.8%) from three

JC had a great freshman year but I think DSE is more multi-functional than JC was as a freshman ... and shows more leadership than JC did. Of course DSE's leadership displays might be more due to a bit of leadership void on this year's team than the team JC was on as a freshman.

DSE's demeanor goes beyond any perceived void of leadership shown on this team. SM right now is the team's leader but DSE is also a natural leader. You just see it in the way he carries himself. I have the feeling he has high expectations for himself and will work towards making himself the best player he can be. One thing I noticed was after the IndSu loss was that he looked pissed and disgusted. He wants to win and is a winner. Traits you cannot teach. You either have that hunger or you do not. There is a reason that HS players are being scouted during practice now. During games it is easier to get up and play hard especially if someone is checking you out but to do it in practice!:-o

You said it. Sometimes i wish i would see that more. Like the team is really upset when they blow a 10+ point lead. It really shows an intensity and a desire to win. Of course don't get out of control, no need to be throwing chairs or anything.

+ 44 the band? LOLOLOLOLOL if so...

how many people see DSE play around the conference and think he is a JUCO or a Junior finally cracking some PT? I bet a lot!

Will DSE be on the MVC All-Freshman team?

I'm thinking:
Colt Ryan (EU)
Seth VanDeest (DU)
Jackie Carmichael (ISU red)
DSE (BU)
Gene Teague (SIU)

What? Impossible? Everybody knows we have to go "BIG." to win games.

True, and I am an advocate of that to a degree. But I am also an advocate of playing your best 5 guys and/or playing the 5 guys that fit together the best. TB is definitely one of the best 5, but sometimes it seems like the offense flows better with DSE in as the 4th guard. I don't know what it is, maybe there aren't enough shots to go around when TB/AW/SM are all in together? I know it's a VERY small sample size, but things have flowed better with DSE getting 20+ minutes a game.

All that said, it won't bother me if TB goes back into the starting lineup.

BB, I was being facetious towards those posters who want us to GO BIG.
I don't have a dog in this fight. Just WIN baby, BIG or small.
