Duke-Maryland

Mine Too! As a Duke fan (after my Braves of course), I can't stand GW and Maryland! Go Duke! But more importantly GO BU! We needed this win.

Two of my favorite posters anti-Maryland, next there will be a post from MM flaming the Terps. Fear the Turtle! It will not be long before Maryland with or without GW will regain their swagger. There is too much talent in the area, tradition, location and top notch facilities to keep the program down. I think the best days of GW are past him. He is not equipped to recruit in today's environment. His team today was drastically inferior in every level.

Okay, now what has Williams said about mid-major teams in the past?

Oh, who cares. Apparently he coaches for one now! :D

Good article Coach! 5 years of mediocre playing and recruiting is not a win now mentality. GW is a Maryland icon, not because he is a mad man but because he came back to his alma mater and took it from the ashes and brought it back to life. He was in a great situation at Ohio State but he took the hard way and was a winner. If some of you would look past his lobbying for his team you could see a great story there. I also though think it is past his time. The players now days are coddled so much more and GW is just not going to be that type of coach.

He also does not want and will not recruit players that aren't committed to staying at Maryland for 4 years. That philosophy may work in some leagues, but not in the ACC where he loses out on all the top talent in his own backyard. They listed just a few of the great players from the Baltimore and DC area that went elsewhere, and the list is impressive--
Players like Rudy Gay (UConn), Carmelo Anthony (Syracuse), Donte Greene (Syracuse), Kevin Durant (Texas), Jack McClinton (Miami), DaJuan Summers (Georgetown), and Malcolm Delaney (Virginia Tech).

This oughta make everyone's day.

I love how he says he's been there for 20 years unlike anyone else. Yep, you're totally above everyone else, Gary.

I will eat my hat if he still has a job in 3 months from now.

I would bet the way the UM admin is painting this and using their PR machine I'd bet you keep your hat. One thing GW has going for him though that Maryland fans are very, very loyal and GW did take the program from it's ruins (Bob Wade, Len Bias era) to a National Championship. I believe his ego is what will be his downfall. GW is a blue collar guy, never has he ever broken any NCAA rules, go the route of Kansas or UConn and hired someones dad or payoff an AAU person. I believe a lot of you guys are giving him a hard rap for standing up for his conference and team. If he became a TV commentator, like Digger and made those statements then that would be totally different. If you have to remeber that the media pressure in the DC area is a lot greater then most places in the country and especially Peoria. I have a soft spot for GW. He's sort of like that relative that you know is a good guy but every once in awhile you would love to disown because he just says the dumbest things.
