I also believe Coach Brown wanted what was best for Dyricus, and never tried to dissuade him from Bradley.

Dyricus made his official visit to Bradley right after the Flash Flanagan Hoops Review on Sunday April 19 through Tuesday, April 21. Instead of using high pressure recruiting techniques, the Bradley coaches encouraged DSE to make any other visits he had planned, because they wanted him to make the right decision of what was best for him, not just what was best for Bradley. So instead of a possible signing during that visit, Dyricus made his final recruiting trip to University of Rhode Island this past weekend. Though a few people on this board became aware of the late interest URI had in Dyricus, it was never mentioned publically until yesterday's announcements.

For Bradley to beat out a good school like URI of the Atlantic-10, a BCS school like Kansas State, and several others vying for his services, shows how much DSE respected what Bradley and the coaches have to offer him. And, yes, ISU was one of those schools that wanted DSE at one time. And there was one additional BU connection with Dyricus that helped Bradley land him. He played for the Illinois Wolves, and one of their assistant coaches is Carl Maniscalco.

The future looks great for Bradley. Dyricus will do well in the MVC.

I'm glad to hear the general excitement about BU landing DSE. I remember when I first asked about BU's interest in DSE and got some negative reactions but I'm glad that those opinions have turned around and the majority of the Brave Nation has accepted DSE. I'm so excited to be able to continue to watch him play. A great recruit for BU and a great life decision for DSE.

That is a tough question. The thing is with Matt you know what you are going to get out of him every game. He is a GREAT shooter who needs to work on his defense and creating a shot. His effort was constantly there and he was always doing whatever his team asked him to do to get the W, including guarding the other teams center, breaking the press, hitting big free throws. He did what it took to win.

With DSE you can have a few different people show up. His work ethic is very good but it seems he has days where the coach really has to work to light a fire under his butt. This happened very few games in his two years at WaCoHi but it could still be a cause for concern. Once the fire is lit watch out, the kid is explosive off the dribble, can jump with the best of them, and has an above average jump shot. The one thing that is constant with him, which I really love, is his defensive effort. Every trip down the floor he gives his best on defense.

If he can play D and he really goes at it I'm sure the offensive part of his game will come together with time.

I don't doubt it, and I've seen him plenty of times to know not to worry about his offensive game. He is explosive when he asserts himself which is 80% of the time. I only made the comment to compare him to Matt Roth who in my eyes asserted himself 100% of the time doing whatever his team needed.
 
Good for Jim Les and BU that Dyricus signed. Now, we have to wait and see if he can play.

From all reports I heard Dyricus was a prototypical MVC player. If that's the case, you certainly don't want him coming back to Peoria and beating you every year from Wichita, MSU, SIU, UNI, etc. He was never officially offered by K-State but big deal.

Dyricus has the type of game/body, etc. that fits in well in the MVC. Every team in the league is getting guys similar to him. Let's just hope DSE is a little better than the other guys.

Agreed -- The fact that his DEFENSE has been what's talked about for him... I think that will be the difference maker. We need a lockdown defender, and it sounds like he will develop into that. Give him a year behind Dodie and then he'll find his PT.

I still see him as Dodie Dunson: The 4-Year Sequel!

Mosh I appreciate your assesment of him. One thing that I'd like to bring up is the "effort" on offense.

I'm not TO worried about any percieved lack of effort on offense IF the guy is giving 100% on defense. To ME thats the end of the story.

IF you would have said he takes defensive plays off then we'd have a problem. IMO its hard to judge or tell if a guy isn't giving 100% on offense as that could come from a player being to unselfish looking to get others involved.

I originally was not in favor of BU signing him, thinking we could do better--and I know other schools dropped interest and K-State never offered, but I think he is our best option now that Norris left, and perhaps his signing will attract some of his high school friends to become BU fans too. Hopefully he will develop into a nice Valley player:wink:
 
I find it funny how some people have strong opinion of players they have never seen play. I feel pretty good about this signing because JL and staff went with it and the guys on this board who have seen him play love his game. :lol:
 
Dyricus was a more effective player his junior year when he had Matt Roth to knock down open shots. As a senior, DSE was subjected to almost constant double-teaming that took away some of his ability to drive and get to the basket. That was what made him such a great player the year they made it to the Final 4 in Class 3A.

Thats why I think we MIGHT see an even more effective JP also. Doubt he'll see the double/triple teams he saw in HS while playing D1. Granted the single player guarding him will be better then any one of the two or three he was used to seeing but its hard to do many post moves when you have a guy on each side and in back of you.

I completely agree, but couldn't you say the same about almost any D1 recruit?
