Dyricus To Stay at Bradley!

Believe what you will, I believe this team can finish as high as 2, more than likely 4 or 5 again. Creighton and Indiana State are the class of the Valley next season. Wichita and Mo. State are both losing a lot of talent this year.
Wichita State brings back far more talent than Bradley.
No Post Presence? Ever hear of Jordan Prosser? Egolf is not really a post player, but if Prosser continues to improve and bulk up, I see no reason he can't be, eventually, one of the top post players in the valley. Also, in Geno's system, post players aren't as important. They are still nice to have, but with a running team, you don't NEED them as much.
JP averaged 5 and 5, but the potential is there. That being said, I can count 10 or 11 forwards or centers that I would take over Prosser next season.

I also find it funny that everyone is embracing a coach who uses a system that, according to you, "post players aren't as important."
4 out of 5 starters are pretty much set, provided TB is healthy enough to play. In my opinion, here is what we are looking at.

DSE, TB, WE, and JP will all start. The 5th starter will either be WL, DS, JE, or a long shot Remy (if he comes, of course).
No one in that lineup is a good perimeter shooter, and DSE flourished this yaer when he was moved off the point position. IF DSE doesn't start point then that leaves DS. I don't see a DS led team finishing in the top half.
I don't think we can win the valley next season, but there is no reason to expect this team to finish in last again. I will be surprised if they play on Thursday in the MVC tournament again.
I doubt they finish last (unless bad news comes), but Ford deserves the COY if BU doesn't play on Thursday.

you just quoted my list of lots of bad things already -- what exactly constitutes hitting an iceberg??
Maybe even worse than hitting it is hitting it and yet not having a clue and thinking it might still be ahead...

Answer the question please - Is it 'dead ahead'?

If you'd like, elaborate on what you see. Are you part of the 'most' or do you have SONAR?

I will answer. It is on the port side. You need to steer starboard.

I still want to have that beer...... and you started the attack. I just said it was wrong and something about a life.

I need to go play golf. Everybody have a great Masters weekend.

Harbingers of doom are often proven to be crackpots and know-nothings.

Maybe, but in this case, many of those projections came from the people closest to the program. So make what you will of this, but the program came real close to a mass exodus.

DSE was never really planning on leaving. He certainly looked at his options, but was and is dedicated to Bradley.

I believe you are getting inaccurate information, but you can believe what you choose. I know for a fact that DSE turned in a written request for release and listed 10 schools (just as Sam did) that he wanted a release to talk to. I have spoken to Dyricus. He was quite upset with what happened and felt the players were not being informed appropriately, and he was planning to leave.

I agree with everything you said, except the very last part. He looked into options, he did not plan to leave. Opening up options, and being set to leave are different things, IMO.

Thanks for answering.

I did not start an attack. I am sure I have in the past, but didn't this time. To me an attack would be calling someone a name or telling them to get a life. But it's probably different for everyone.

Beer is good. A nice cold one can ease tensions and erase differences.

Best of luck on the links. Pulling for DA this weekend (got him at +20000 to win at Augusta, gotta go with the local favorite).

I like the way you think.

Maybe we should lift less weights this summer so the muscles are less tight with those 2-5 foot shots near the basket and concentrate more on conditioning.

:)

You need to do both weights and cardio for basketball and a healthy dose of stretching. Kareem Abdul Jabbar credited yoga for extending and benefitting his career and MJ did as much stretching as lifting and playing during his career.

I don't have the time to scour through threads right now looking for these things, but here are a few things that took just a couple minutes to find.

Braves4Life - Well, I guess next year is going to just SUCK!

Bufan14 - I am incredibly mad/sad right now. If we lose all those players this year will look great compared to what next year will be. We had a chance to be something great next year, now we will probably finish at the bottom again....

AirPetey - I HATE all the JL haters. Be careful what you ask for!! The grass is not always greener on the other side!!

AE Braves Fan - If you hate losing then you better find another hobby for the next 3-4 years. -HA - it will become a full scale plummet. Maybe Joanne will be able to move down in the stands a bit or find a good camera zone seat. -This team is going to be really bad for several years when we could have just kept Les and won the conference next year.

Da Coach - The team next year will bear very little resemblance to anything we now see.

Dub - Having said that, Goodwill Industries is about to recieve a large donation of Bradley gear which I have already started sadly to box up. After the decision made today, to me this administration has transformed Bradley Basketball into something unrecognizable from the program I fell in love with.

Tornado - I am still a Bradley fan but have a bad feel for the direction all BU sports programs are headed...

Guess I just took them differently. I took it as some fans being concerned with the program. Hope everyone is ok now with the new hire, I am. Just don't think we need to be stirring the pot by asking where the naysayers are.

I doubt they finish last (unless bad news comes), but Ford deserves the COY if BU doesn't play on Thursday.

I completely agree with this. I said before that Geno is set up really well to get his third straight conference COY award!

However, I don't think a 6th-place finish will be enough for that to happen. A top four finish should do it, considering our "last place team loses their best player to graduation and lose their team leader to transfer".

Maybe its the constant attacks on one poster for his opinions. It gets real old.

Attacks or just conflicting viewpoints? Open discussion gets 'old', or it only gets old if it doesn't align with someone's personal agenda? I'm not sure what gets 'old', most of my recent disagreements with those running the forum have been deleted anyways, as if they never happened.

I didn't attack anyone in this thread. I certainly don't think they took it as an attack. I celebrated the fact that DSE is staying, thanked one poster for saving the program, and asked if there was still an iceberg dead ahead.

Geno for Coach of the Year then.
Book it! :D

Even aside from who we might get that is not on our current roster, we do have some talent. Yes, I believe Wichita (at this time) has more talented players, and better perimeter shooters. But it's not to a great degree. And I'd take our bigs over theirs. They do have a really good PG who came on strong in the last half of the season, but maybe DS will come right in and run the point well. I think we have good all-around bench players in JE, WL that will show great improvement this season under a new system.
I'd like to see who you think (your list of 10 or 11) will be better than JP next season.

Wichita State brings back far more talent than Bradley.

Fair enough. I didn't mean to imply Wichita was going to horrible. I see them as a team that probably finishes ahead of Bradley, but they are losing quite a bit of talent.

JP averaged 5 and 5, but the potential is there. That being said, I can count 10 or 11 forwards or centers that I would take over Prosser next season.

10 or 11 Centers in the Valley? Don't get me wrong, Prosser is not the best Center in the Valley, but no way he is not in the top 5 centers of the Valley.

I also find it funny that everyone is embracing a coach who uses a system that, according to you, "post players aren't as important."

Post players are most important in half court offenses. When you run, they still help quite a bit to have, but are not as important as they in half court offenses. Also we're embracing the coach because he is our coach. We support him because he is here. I would support any coach at Bradley because I want to see this program succeed.

No one in that lineup is a good perimeter shooter, and DSE flourished this yaer when he was moved off the point position. IF DSE doesn't start point then that leaves DS. I don't see a DS led team finishing in the top half.

DSE can shoot, he's not great, but he's not horrible. TB shoots a lot better from 3 then people seem to think. Again, not a star, but not horrible. You are right though, we don't have a star shooter like a Warren or Maniscalco for next season.

I doubt they finish last (unless bad news comes), but Ford deserves the COY if BU doesn't play on Thursday.

Believe what you will. I'm not going to try and change your opinion, but I do honestly believe, the worst this team SHOULD finish is 6th. I've heard Drake we'll be better, but I don't see it. Evansville had a good season for them last season, and I don't expect them to horrible, but I think Bradley can finish ahead of them. Illinois State and Southern Illinois are both very beatable teams, and I can't see either of them finishing higher then 7th next season. I'm optimistic that this team could be very good next year, and will at least be able to finish in the middle of the valley.

I dont' see Missouri St. finishing ahead of BU either. I definitely see middle of the Valley (4-6), anything less would be due to injury or disciplinary issues, anything better is possible.

Dyricus would definitely disagree with you.

More like, ice cube dead ahead...

BU's program might suffer for a year or two in the transition, but it can't get much worse than last year's performance. GF has proven at KSU he can put together a winning team on the fly, give him a chance. Keeping DSE on board certainly eases the burden to win next year.

JL had a great run for a few years and got a fair chance to succeed in 9 seasons which is longer than most average coaching tenures. I found an article from the beginning of this past season on a NY Times Blog (http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ovement-begins-with-recruiting/#more-28129) :
"Coaching Tenure Update
...Entering the new season, the average tenure for head coaches with their current teams in the six major conferences was 5.58 years, with a median of 4 years. Of the 73 coaches in those leagues, 12 have been leading their teams for 10 years or more. All three statistics are slight increases from last season. Here is how the six major conferences break down:

A.C.C.: An average tenure of 7.83 years with a median of 6.5 and 3 coaches with 10 or more years
Big East: 7.06 average, 3.5 median, 3 of 10 years or more
Big Ten: 6.09 average, 6 median, 2 of 10 years or more
SEC: 4.67 average, 2.5 median, 3 of 10 years or more
Big 12: 4.08 average, 3.5 median, 1 of 10 years or more
Pac-10: 2.8 average, 2 median, none of 10 years or more
...
Northeast: 6.25 average, 2 median, 3 of 10 years or more
Patriot: 6.13 average, 4.5 median, 3 of 10 years or more
Atlantic 10: 4.86 average, 4 median, 1 of 10 years or more
Colonial: 4.83 average, 4 median, 1 of 10 years or more
America East: 4.22 average, 5 median, 0 of 10 years or more
Metro Atlantic: 4.1 average, 4 median, 1 of 10 years or more
Ivy: 2.5 average, 1.5 median, 1 of 10 years or more"

------

I'm sure the coaches with more than 10 years experience didn't have a continual downward trend for 4 years to an eventual last place finish in their 9th season. I liked JL, I respect and appreciate everything he did improve the program, but it was time to move on. There will be some hiccups in this transition, but it is not an iceberg...its an ice cube...

And once again, I'm glad DSE is staying on the Hilltop!

Dyricus would definitely disagree with you.

He would disagree that opening up options is not the same as planning to leave?

I think I will stick with my view of it.

Bottom line:

I guess if he wanted to leave, he would have.

I give credit to DSE and Coach Ford. I am glad to have DSE stay a part of the program.

I know some thought the program would implode without Jim, but personally, I think Coach Ford deserves credit for coming in and starting to turn this program around.
