Last night in the Tournament of Champions Classic, Dyricus Simms-Edwards led the Washington Panthers over national powerhouse Fayette Co. (GA) 88-74.
Some nice highlights on the nightly news/sports from Josh Simon & Jim Mattson.

Dyricus has 33 points on 10-19 from all over the floor, and he also had 6 assists. USC recruit Noel Johnson of Fayette Co. had 26.

He's noticeably bigger this year. Had a real nice game last night, especially free throw shooting.Had to make over 10 throws. He has a big upside and somebody is going to get a heck of a player.Still has to work on his outside shooting and decision making
 
he made 11 of 12 FT

he also had 6 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal and only one turnover.
he was 2-6 from 3-pt range, and he played all 32 minutes.

Ben Worner was 6-11 from 3-pt...


BTW-- In the earlier game, Kinston (from NC) won 78-63 over Hales Franciscan.
Hales is down this year, but Kinston has a kid, Reggie Bullock, who is pretty good. He had 34 points, 16 rebounds, 4 asst., 4 steals, and a block.
He is a 6-7 scorer, listed as a guard, but a 5-STAR in the Class of 2010, already a North Carolina verbal.
 
Talked to former BU great Dave Klobucher this weekend. He is really impressed with Dyricus. He also thought Dyricus has the ability to go BCS. I think maybe we need to put more effort into D. than a certain guard out of the Windy city that doesn't seem to even want to schedule a visit.

Personally, I hope he "works on his outside shooting and decision making" on The Hilltop!
 
I don't know how well he knows JP, but he and his father Meechie Edwards are close firends of Eric and Chuck Buescher. Meechie played for Chuck at Central.
 
D was ok tonite.

Bad: He was stripped several times and took a terrible 3 late with a +10 lead and landed in Coach Brown's doghouse(bench) for rest of game. It looked a little like he was trying to pad his stats. It was a wide open look but with the lead and milking the clock, well it was not good.He'll learn.

Good: continues to shoot free throws well which is improvement from last year. Some nice double pump scores and assists. Man the kid is cut and has some hop. Outside shooting is better.

Panthers win by 17 over Champaign C that beat them in consolation game last March. Not the same CC team but man they have a quick little guard!

Zander Culver was 10-17 from the floor for 23 points, and
Isaiah Clasberry was 7-13, 15 pts, 4 assists, and 4 steals.

Champaign Central lost 3 key players from last year's team...
Verdell Jones is at Indiana now, Donald Stewart, and Jordan Walker transferred to Hales Franciscan. But Walker did not play yesterday for Hales vs. Lake Forest Academy.
Angus Brandt scored 9 for LFA, but was in foul trouble and had 5 turnovers.


Lake Forest Academy has a 6-7 forward named Remy N'Diaye, only a junior...he came off the bench and played 14 minutes,
he hit every shot, was 7-7 and had 14 pts in 14 minutes.
He is a DI player.

I believe it was Culver. On another note, DeLasalle has a real nice looking sophomore. Big guy.Forget the name as there are so many good players and so many games.I'm sure you'll know
 
Interesting game last night......

Metamora beat Washington 71-54...one of the largest margins of defeat for a Washington team in quite some time.

Metamora employed a tight 1-3-1 zone and dared Washington to beat them with outside shooting, and generally they will.
Mark Roth hit three 3-pointers, and Ben Worner had 3 also and a total of 15 points.
But the strategy worked against Dyricus, who couldn't find good shots and ended with only 5 points on 2-7.
Meanwhile Metamora's Zeke Schneider had 22 points, 11 rebounds.
 
Metamora got themselves a good coach in Jim Youngman. He was my freshman coach in high school, and I could have told you then that he was going to be a good one.
 
Jim is a good friend of mine. I was glad to hear that he is back coaching in the area. I know he will do good things at Metamora.
 
Jim Youngman was coach at DePue way back when I was in Junior High there. I do remember seeing many of the games. He found some success with our small school and was very well liked by his players. I wish him the best at Metamora, he's a good coach and I'd predict he can have plenty of success at his new school.

Jim is a very good basketball coach. He's moved around quite a bit over the years, I hope he can stick and settle somewhere around here.

Dyricus is hearing from some bigger schools such as IU (they are already oversigned, but hey - it doesn't matter apparently), Kansas State, Penn State, also Kent State, Missouri State, Wichita, SIU, and Saint Louis.

How do you steal something (DSE) from someone (BU)... when that something (DSE) is NOT owned by someone (BU or anyone)?
 
I saw both of his games this weekend and he shot the 3 real well. Neither team they played was very good but to me his outside shooting and free throw shooting has improved noticeably over last year. I have a feeling his stock is going to continue to rise. He also seems to take the C Brown tongue lashing on poor decision making/defense well.He doesn't pout or go into a shell.Once he gets back in the game, he takes the coaching as motivation and takes it up a notch
 
To me, D S-E is the type of player Bradley should go after. He's been a little bit under the radar due to summer injuries and plays on a team where his stats are secondary to the team goals.He's getting great coaching and his fundamentals have improved immensely.His upside is big. I don't know if the youth in the BU backcourt is an issue but I guess we'll see.
