Emarion Ellis commits to BU

....
Bradley remains in contact with Emarion Ellis, a 6'5" redshirt-freshman at Marquette. Ellis was a 4-star recruit out of Davenport (Iowa) Assumption HS in the class of 2021. He initially committed to Texas when Shaka Smart was head coach there, but then switched his commitment to Marquette when Smart got that job. After seeing little playing time as a freshman, he was expected to be a key contributor this past season as a sophomore for a loaded Marquette team. However, he suffered a stress fracture in his leg and underwent surgery last August, and missed the entire 2022-23 season.
Marquette head coach Shaka Smart recruited a couple highly rated 2023 guards, and Ellis decided to leave and enter the transfer portal.

Bradley coaches are familiar with Ellis from recruiting him back in 2020, before his stock rose-

Bradley gets a commitment from Marquette transfer Emarion Ellis. Ellis was a 4-star recruit from Davenport Assumption HS in Davenport, Iowa, in the class of 2021. He is a 6'5" extremely talented and athletic guard. He was named the Iowa Class 3A Player of the Year in 2021, and 1st team All-State by the Des Moines Register. He averaged 18.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game per game his senior year.

He initially committed to Texas in the summer prior to his senior season, but when head coach Shaka Smart left Texas and took the Marquette job, Ellis decommitted and committed to Marquette in April, 2021. He had limited playing time his freshman season (see stats). He missed the entire 2022-23 season after developing a stress fracture in his leg that required surgery.
Welcome to Bradley Emarion!

Bradley will now have an Emarion and a Demarion!

Too me Ellis is an upgrade from Montgomery just by the way he can handle the ball, a way better dribbler and we really seemed to lack that from the outside.....great addition...:-o:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

In the most recent PJ Star article by Dave Eminian, he asked Coach Wardle what he was looking for with the one remaining open scholarship.
His answer was, “ We're looking at bringing in a big wing, guard, a 3-2 who can handle the ball and make plays," Wardle said.

So either Coach Wardle was just expressing his wants, or he knew there was a good likelihood of getting a commitment from Emarion Ellis. That description fits Ellis pretty closely, so no wonder Coach Wardle is happy.

Really really good pick up from the portal. Good size and athleticism, he really rounds out our roster.

When was the last time we had a former four star recruit on the roster? Josh Cunningham back in 2014?

I agree, I was sad to lose Zek but it looks like his replacement will be even better.

It's not even close. Ellis is substantially better than Zek, so is Pettigrew. They shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. And Burch is going to turn out to be better too.

Good article from Dave Eminian with some comments from Coach Wardle-
https://www.pjstar.com/story/sports/...s/70136421007/

Wardle says:

"He's a really good young man," Wardle said. "He comes from a winning program at Marquette that I respect, and I'm excited to see where we can go together. He's very talented. Healthy now, and so strong.

"He knows how to play." ...

"I'm just happy to have this roster done," said Wardle, laughing. "Our staff is excited, this is probably the most talented team I've had here."

It all boils down to how well he is able to bounce back from his injury. Stress fractures can be stubborn. Gotta hand it to Wardle, every year we lose half of the team and he still manages to plug in new guys to keep us competitive. Extremely hard being a mid-major head coach the last three years.
