Note- we have heard all the arguments for both sides, so I ask the pro-coaching change people not to tell me I am wrong or try to refute all this as always immediately happens.

How many head coaching hires that Dr. Glasser has made in any sport at any institution, were what anyone would call "a real success"?

Her hire to replace Travis Ford at EKU took over a tremendous NCAA-caliber team, and now, in the 27th strongest conference (yup, that's how weak the OVC is!), they are RPI 246, and SOS 324....(both worse numbers than ISU has right now!)....
and they haven't had an RPI better than 225 in five years..& have mostly been around 295-300
...so don't tell me, all you guys would take him over JL, right, you'd better get used to 300+ RPI's and SOS's

Coach Mo had no players his first year. I can see things differently than other people, but I have to say I don't see any possible way a new coach could finish ninth for two years. Not even in the realm of possibility to me.

You're right. Maybe a new coach will finish ninth and seventh instead!

Her hire to replace Travis Ford at EKU took over a tremendous NCAA-caliber team, and now, in the 27th strongest conference (yup, that's how weak the OVC is!), they are RPI 246, and SOS 324....(both worse numbers than ISU has right now!)....
and they haven't had an RPI better than 225 in five years..& have mostly been around 295-300

I think he's simply saying be careful what you wish for. I'm sure none of the "pro-change" crowd has taken issue with any of the recent hirings/firings at BU.

I think there are a lot of reasonable fans who feel that since Jim Les had a lot to do with raising the funds to build the new athletic facilities, he deserves a chance to coach and take advantage of them.

So the decision to keep JL is going to be based on amount of $$ raised, not on actual basketball coaching performance?

Fans are free to make their own minds up, but it is disingenuous to suggest that Jim Les has not been handicapped by a serious string of bad luck injuries that have harmed his chances of success.

I agree that Bradley has had injuries. No doubt. But are you saying that every year where BU failed to finish in the the top 3 of conference is due to injuries?

What if Jim is brought back next season and BU has more injuries? Should we give him another year? What if the next year there are more injuries? Does he get yet another year??

When is it time to stop blaming facilities, injuries, etc? We are talking about a decade almost.


PS. We have heard all the talking points from both sides, so I would hope no one will have a different opinion than me on this. 8)

Just to clarify, I don't think it would be fair to say that Dr. Glasser's next coaching hire would necessarily be bad based on just one previous, albeit poor hire. She just doesn't have that long enough of a track record to be able to predict if her next coaching hire will be good or not (unless she hired other coaches that I'm not aware about).

That said though, I completely agree with you tornado that a new coach does not necessarily guarantee success, though of course I would hope that if she does decide to hire a new coach that he would be successful as quickly as possible. It's just that there are a lot of recent Valley coaching hires that have either not panned out, or have had a good year or two only to sink back into mediocrity soon after. So it's not as easy as it seems to build a program into a consistent winner.

I know many here think the next coach here can be the next Dana Altman, Mark Few or Brad Stevens. But that tends to be the exception rather than the rule, and I still believe that the stability of a long time coach may be better for the immediate future of the Bradley program than a new coach. Irregardless though, I will support whoever is coaching here next year.

And that those poor facilities hurt Bradley's recruiting abilities. And that JL was a huge cog in the process of raising the money to build new facilities.
It is not just about raising the money, though JL should be credited for what he has done, but about giving him the chance to benefit from them to prove he is as capable of getting Bradley back to the NCAA. Sorry if that concept is not understandable.

Also, I do not "oppose" anyone on this board. I may have different opinions, but I would never say I oppose anyone here.

That is true Lakeview but many of our competitors facilities were dated as well back then. The trend to upgrade athletic facilities nationwide has really taken off since Mo was here.

I trust that AD Dr. Michael Cross will bring many winning programs to BU. He did it at Princeton and I hope and think he will do it at BU. As others have said this will not happen overnight. However, I think when we look back in 5 years BU will have several top performing programs in the MVC just like Cross helped Princeton to attain in the Ivy.

Nobody said BU would be the favorite to win the MVC. I said I thought they could win the MVC next year, not that they would be picked #1 or the favorite. Where do you think they would be picked? A lot of people on this board thought 5th was way too low this year.
You seem to diminish the team's chances based mainly on losing AW and DD. But teams lose players every year. And to count on no player getting better next season is illogical. I expect much greater contributions next year from JP, WL, JE, MK, DSE, even WE. Add a healthy SM and TB to that, and I don't see many teams any better or more experienced in the MVC. Plus there will be an infusion of new talent.
And we can all dream that every player will stay, but it almost never happens. I'll take anyone's bet in the event we have a new coach, that multiple players who have started will leave, as well as most of the recruits.

In the case we do have a coaching change, I would also bet we finish no higher than 9th for the next couple years. Long-term enough?

Wait a minute. How many NCAA Tournaments did Coach Mo make? ONE! The same number as Les. Sure Mo made a few more NIT's, but if we are going to base a coach's job security on the number of NCAA Tournaments they make, Coach Mo did not accomplish any more than Les has. Plus Les won two games in the tournament. So I don't know how facilities factor into the number of tourneys Coach Mo made.

At the end of the day a man has to do what is best for them in these situations. So if SM left for any reason that would not be the end of the world. Would it hurt the team, YES! I would hope his loyalty lies with the University but I can see if it is tighter with JL. It would be like if my boss got sacked and I had another opportunity for a better position I'd be a full to turn it down.
