Fallacies

I am not criticizing or trying to call anyone out. I am happy this site gives fans a chance to vent and post opinions. And note that nobody's opinions were censored after Monday's game.
I just hope we don't go quite so far in being critical every time they have a bad game. This team will have more ups and downs since they are young, and there are significant injury problems involving some of our key players.

I'm cranking up the bandwagon and resupplying the cool-aid guys. I will always be pulling for my guys regardless of how painful it may become occasionally and try to look at the glass 1/2 full. For better or worse there are guys on this site that look at things a little different and I might even occasionally post a few things or two pointing them out. What I want to say, this is what makes this board great! We can contribute what we feel and believe as long as it is thought out and at the same time learn a few things.

Well back to the bandwagon and I'm loading a larger broadband pipe so I can see the games clearer.

BTW..I hope everyone is enjoying their Thanksgiving and here's to everyone remembering how truly blessed we are in living in such a great country and or being affiliated to BU, an outstanding higher ed. institution that truly produces outstanding citizens IMHO.

Everyone wants to enjoy a victory and savor it for as long as possible. I don't want to spoil the party but, the team they beat was a bunch of 6'10" guys who had been running up and down the floor for three days. They were not that quick to begin with and after three days of fla heat were not able to get to our shooters. They made us look good just like we made UMKC and FGCU look good with our poor D. Richmond will not be a contender in their con., lucky to be .500.

Those 6'10' Guys running up and down the court only lost to Syracuse @ The Cuse by 5. That night, they really looked pretty good.
The Cuse beat Florida pretty handily, a team we lost to.
I do not know if that means anything, but I think Richmond might suprise a few people this year!

Hey---just to show how down just about everyone in the Valley is DOWN on their OWN TEAM--

here's a challenge.... I will post some comments...
guess which Valley team's message board it comes from...
each one describing how their team's fans feel about their team
.

--"Coaching is bad, really bad.
Change the system if its not working.
Without naming names, two of our seniors should probably not play...
Still have not recruited a true scorer or pure shooter...
Defense is uglier than ever..."

mouse over HERE to read where that comes from>>The saluki board

--"the issues this team exhibits can be cured by a serious attitude adjustment."
"I also hate losing to hyphenated schools. That goes for directional schools too."
"I think this team's biggest problem...is chemistry"
"I put (this loss) completely on the coach. We have a lot of talent and they aren't being coached."

mouse over HERE to read where that comes from>>The Bluejay board

--"our team blows"

mouse over HERE to read where that comes from>>The saluki board

--"I didn't think it was possible to find a worse D1 coach than our coach"
"Hiring (him) was a gigantic mistake"
"They weren't inept."
"What a disppointment. Did anyone see any semblance of a coherent offense?"

mouse over HERE to read where that comes from>>The Drake board

--and this one is from just a few minutes ago!!
"we will be good this year"
"I'm very proud of this team and very confident in the future"

mouse over HERE to read where that comes from>>The Shockers' board, even though their team
barely lost to Georgetown, while the starters shot a combined 8-33 (24%)
and the entire team shot 17-61 (27.9%)

Looks to me the boo-birds are out in force everywhere in the Valley!

The is a connection between the MVC being ranked #16 in RPI and what is really going on, huh?

It's way too early to be looking at RPI's.

But all that aside.... IMO, the MVC is gonna be a 1 bid league.

(unless the MVC champ has a great resume and has mopped the MVC and loses in St Louis)

my point was to show that even at the stronger programs in the Valley like SIU and Creighton, they are getting
ripped by their own fans. Drake had a great year, and now they are starting over with a new coach, and one game
into the season fans are ripping on them as well. I guess fans have a sense of entitlement and believe the program centers on THEM, thus the expectations.

Fans ARE an integral component of the team, you're **** right they should have a sense of entitlement and expectations.

What is any team without its fans? Without fans, the players play only for themselves. Without fans, revenue streams dry up, then the teams disappear.

This board sure as hell wouldn't exist and none of us would be on here checking the site way more than we all probably should if we didn't have a sense of entitlement and expectations. We wouldn't spout off after every game, positive or negative.

Fans may not be at the direct center, but they're about as close as you can get after the players and coaches.

That might just be the biggest "fallacy" in this thread!

Fantastic point.

If it wasn't for the loyal fans who have been supporting the Braves, and putting 10000 plus in the Civic Center for years, there wouldn't be a basketball program as well off as it is today. We all consider the Braves OUR team.

Without fans....and playing for themselves....aren't you talking directly about the NBA

Fantastic point.
I'll agree with that. Just who pays JL's salary, the rest of the coach's salary's, the players scholarships, all the perks of the mens program and money that supports almost all the other sports programs at BU. The mens basketball fans.
So I think they have every right to voice their expectations of their team. They should be able to do it in a positive or negative way (as long as it is done in a civil way and not in a personal attack on any coach or player)

There are many Bradley fans who come to games, cheer for the Braves, and support the program financially whether they win or lose. Thorough good times and bad. Bradley's attendance and support has always astounded people.

I think what was referred to as the entitlement mentality of some followers, is that there will always be some fans who come only when the program is winning, and that's OK, too, Bradley is happy to have them.
There are many circumstances that make it hard for a small, private, non-BCS school to compete against the big boys. If there wasn't, there would be more that have persistent success, and there isn't. The number of successful mid-majors every year can be counted on one hand. A program like Bradley couldn't survive if they didn't have all the fans who continue to support them.

Totally Agreed;-)

I guess I just don't get it....

are some fans really this dumb??

Here is a comment right off the Creighton Bluejay board about Dana Altman.....
"Im really starting to question Dana, two games in a row where he has blown double digit leads at half."

Then followed by even more...these are numerous different posters saying these things!

"I say this in all seriousness - the Jays would have been better off if he had stayed in Arkansas. The Jays have a much more talented team than Nebraska."
"Dana's ....my way or the highway approach may be keeping us from the level we want to obtain."
"Dana's system can win a conference tourny here or there, but cannot do squat on a national stage."
"Just not riding on the same ship as you 'blue kool-aid' drinkers who think Dana is the savior of this program."
"I am beginning to think Arkansas got lucky."

I guess what bugs me most about this kind of comment is that we've had it here after just one bad loss. Nobody has any patience any more. this is Dana Altman, for gosh sakes.....90% of the teams in DI would love to have this guy!!

I TOTALLY agree! Hopefully these comments are coming from kids at CU who know absolutely nothing about CU history (and I hope this is the case here when the bashers come out against Les). I think this is just a product of the video game and internet age where kids today want instant gratification. This is why pro baseball has lost it's popularity.... it's too slow moving for the youth of the past 20-years.
