FBI and US Justice Dept. charge several college basketball coaches with corruption

I agree that Louisville deserves the "death penalty", as even as recently as 2 months ago they were still "playing the game" and pursuing recruits that were "represented" by the very agent at the center of this FBI investigation who they had already funnelled hundreds of thousands of dollars to, even though they were on probation for the last basketfull of violations with their strippers & prostitutes scandal, which Pitino also didn't know anything about.

They obviously believed they were completely immune to the rules and to the NCAA doing anything about all their cheating and scandals. Kind of like mafia bosses who never worry about breaking laws because they could always "fix" anything (I wonder if Pitino's consigliere is Tom Hagen? :)).
I guess they never figured on the FBI moving in and cleaning house.

Bruce Pearl deserves the death penalty- I said that 15 years ago when he was cheating at Milwaukee, then again 6-7 years ago when he was not just cheating but building a whole mountain of lies to cover his a** at Tennessee, and have believed it ever since..
He is a pathological liar, cheater, sociopath who will step on anyone or any rules to get ahead.. Even most of the people who have worked under him are cheats, liars and some even perverts!!
(PM me if you wanna know how I really feel and I do have INSIDE sources including DI college coaches who have witnessed directly Pearl's cheating and athletic department personnel who have worked directly with Pearl)
BUT -- I hope someone's got some recorded conversations on Kelvin Sampson as well, cuz I know what they'll find...

BTW- Auburn seems to know this, too as they are following Louisville's actions....
Auburn's Athletic Director looks like he will go first, then....bye, bye Bruce..

Pretty soon there are gonna be a whole lot of millionaire coaches and AD's looking for jobs...

btw - a Brian Wardle mention in regard to the opening at Louisville!!

I thought several months ago when the so-called big boys started talking about splitting from the rest of the pack because they thought they were better that something like this could happen. Their greed and corruption would cause them to implode from within. I hear a lot of booms going off around the country right now.

they'd love to split but...
then there's be nobody left to steal revenue & recruits from (except each other) and whup up on to build a nice record...

Just like the rich king still needs to poor taxpayers, the BCS boys still need the mid-majors...

But the mid-majors may end up a bit stronger after this as none of them will get hammered while perhaps a few of the big boys will - and most of those who don't will have to quit cheating, at least for a while, and then they will have to rely on actual coaching --

big question is why NCAA is not doing a danged thing??
Shouldn't they be opening their own independent investigation into all of this...
surely they have some info that even the FBI doesn't have - they have their own "field agents" and investigators and they have done many investigations before - into USC's Tim Floyd paying OJ Mayo and into cash payments to other kids previously....they have their own leads from coaches who have tipped them off to shady dealings - but for some reason the NCAA is just gonna hide

There are rumors this morning that the NCAA will finally step in and declare any 2017 recruits (current college freshmen) who are associated with this FBI investigation ineligible.
This report from an Arkansas recruiting guy suggests there could be "a good number" of freshman players who could be declared ineligible-

That's because they should be ashamed of themselves. or they are waiting until the FBI is done with them

...Rick Pitino has a clause in his contract that requires a Board of Trustees meeting
& action for him to be fired & even then, only after a 10-day notice...

Rick Pitino was sent this letter by the University President and Chairman of the Board of Directors at the University of Louisville

..
Christian Dawkins, a sports agent, was among those arrested.

Christian Dawkins is the son of Lou Dawkins, Cleveland State basketball assistant coach..
but before that Lou was head coach of Saginaw High School - where Draymond Green, former BU recruit Daniel West and many others played for him - Brian Bowen and others, including Kyle Kuzma played for Dawkins' AAU team.

ESPN is reporting this about Christian Dawkins....he has been involved in sleazy recruiting practices for several years and it has gotten him in legal trouble before-

...
Lamont Evans at Oklahoma State

I don't think it was ever mentioned, but ...

Lamont Evans played in the MVC at Drake in addition to working under Frank Martin, Brad Underwood, and Mike Boynton

and here's a great line from a new story...

"For roughly 25 years, the hiring dynamic has shifted to include more and more people connected to talent pipelines
...ties to AAU powerhouses were the new coin of the realm.

...coaches billing themselves as ace recruiters with ties to AAU programs and shoe companies will face a tough sell.
Because that’s exactly what has led college basketball into the predicament it currently occupies."

Can you say Chin Coleman?? (btw- Coleman's W-L record over the past 5 years - overall regular season record 59-104, conference record 27-63 - so you decide how much his recruiting has helped)

Pitino is put on administrative leave without pay, while the Louisville AD Tom Jurich is placed on administrative leave with pay. ..
wow- check out how much money they'll save

Pitino was making almost $8 million per year
AD Tom Jurich was making $5.3 million per year
http://www.courier-journal.com/stor...-tom-jurich-high-pay-unusual-perks/728901001/

so right off the bat if they utilize assistants that are already being paid, they will save $13 million per year - more than the ENTIRE athletic department budget of at least half of all DI programs

And if they get the death penalty look how much more money they will save. LOL!!!!

I read that the dispute will be over the remainder of his contract which is more than $40 million.

Yes, no doubt Pitino will sue to get that money, while Louisville will contend his behavior voided their contract. Nearly all these kinds of lawsuits end up being settled out of court, so we'll see if saving the money is worth the negative publicity to U of L.
