well...as long as the guy has some head coaching experience along the way or is accomplished...
an argument can certainly be made that a lot of BCS assistants suffer from lack of head coaching experience - like Dan Muller...
...so this is also risky when you hire guys who do NOT have head coaching experience...
I will just let the examples speak for themselves...

Drake, Missouri State, ISU, & SIU are currently the FOUR WORST teams in the MVC based on current RPI. (other than BU)
What do they have in common? They all have head coaches who were assistants from top BCS programs.

Let's check the Horizon...
UW-M, UW-Green Bay - the two worst teams in the Horizon by far - have something in common as well..
They BOTH have head coaches who were assistants previously at top BCS programs...

The MAC - NIU, Bowling Green, again all the bottom teams hired guys from BCS programs...

The A-10?? CUSA?? Same - the head coaches of Fordham, Rice, Marshall, and many other of the bottom teams are ex-BCS guys - even some were BCS head coaches...

There are no guarantees for sure.....Weber had a run at SIU and Illinois and so far doing well at KSU..

Gregory is doing well after assisting for 11-12 years
Stalling was an assistant for 11 years and is doing well.

I don't think it's hard to find examples to support an argument or position about this

he did OK at Dayton - building his win totals largely against weaker non-conference opponents...
but in 9 years as a head coach - he's made the NCAA tourney only twice - one of which was the loaded, 24-win team that was left in his lap by Oliver Purnell when he arrived to replace his predecessor...

Also - in last SIX seasons in the mid-major A-10 - he finished above .500 only once, and in the rest of those seasons never finished higher than 7th!!
Heck - that kind of performance wouldn't have been tolerated at Bradley if no better than 4th wasn't tolerated...

but he has struggled after moving to the "bigs" at Georgia Tech...holding a 4-15 ACC record...
..in fact - in a bit of an embarrassment - his entire staff just got suspended...

I'm guessing if Bradley had went to the NCAA once and NIT 3 times in his last 4 years Les would still be coaching but I could be wrong.

Obviously GT liked him enough to pursue him...

This is only a guess...but I'm guessing most head coaches were assistants at one time or another....so sometimes they work out and sometimes they don't.

Anyone think Tyshon Pickett has a body language problem when he comes out of the game?

I'm just getting caught up on the threads. This was 1 very annoying thing I picked up on Pickett. It started at the beginning of the season so it's not like it has been a growing problem but whenever he comes out of the game, he is always sulking and doesn't slap Geno's hand when he puts it out while walking to the bench. He also rarely acknowledges the attention from the bench or incoming player when he's going out. Maybe he is having trouble adjusting to the current team chemistry?

Pickett is very emotional - and that can be helpful when he's riding high -but can also be troubling when he's having a bad game...check Saturday's stats...
