Final score: Bradley 108 Indiana State 99

The last play in regulation where we did not foul or even guard the player allowing him to get off a long but wide open shot was a huge mistake. Those are the kind of things that leads to losing and coming up short of winning championships.Fortunately forBradley they were able to get the win yet it should have never came down to that play. I have been saying all season we need to start making these free throws or it will cost us in a close game. Last night once again our free throw shooting was atrocious . The final thing I would say is those officials were so biased to the home team and have zero business officiating a college game. There supervisor should watch the tape and see some of the phantom calls they made during that game.

Man, I don't know BATG. I think the odds would definitely favor letting someone take a 3/4 court shot over shooting 3 FT's. I think fouling on the 3 would only be the play inside the half court line at best, but that's just my personal opinion.
You foul before he takes that shot but in order to do that you would have had to have someone guarding him.

I read that last night's thriller was the 2nd longest game in Bradley history. Of course, behind the all-time longest game in 1981 (7 OTs).
Was 3 OTs tied for 2nd? Or is it the 1st time we've played 3 OTs?
This was the third three-overtime game in BU men's hoops history. The other two were both losses. In 1965, BU lost at Arizona, 85-83, and in 2015, BU lost at Missouri State, 80-77. No three-overtime game has been played in Peoria.

Some other stats from last night that hopefully bodes well for the rest of the MVC schedule.
Bradley's 4 frontcourt players who logged nearly all the time combined for a total of 32 rebounds.-
Meta Jonovic- 5 rebounds
Corey Thomas- 14 rebounds
A.J. Smith- 7 rebounds
Timoty van der Knaap- 6 rebounds
It was nice to see the big guys stay near the basket, block out better, and aggressively pursue rebounds last night. Let's hope they can continue that against better rebounding teams.
It lead to:
15 offensive rebounds and 55 overall, compared to 10 offensive rebounds and 49 overall for Indiana State.
18 second chance points, compared to just 8 for InSU
And contributed to 42 points in the paint, compared to 30 for InSU

My buddy who went to ISUB even knows it is tough to play in Terre Haute because the refs are very biased towards the home team. Any close call definitely went ISUB's way. The killer was they got Bully into foul trouble early in the game and that is when they were on their run at the end of the first half.

29-19 on fouls (it was closer to like 25-12 earlier in the OT), 43-27 on the FT....funny because I do not think their team is any more athletic than BU. I only see these types of difference when the other team is super athletic, and we have to foul them.

Also, I have been dogging Van Der Knaap all season, but his 3rd OT performance was a highlight. We need his size and versatility since we have smaller guards.

The stats worked OK for me, for both men and women.

Montana Wheeler was named the Ameren Player of the Game.
There were several heroes and the POG award could have gone to Alex Huibregtse (team-leading 21 points), Jaquan Johnson (20 points, 16 after halftime), or even Corey Thomas (14 rebounds, 6 of them in the overtime periods).
I would add Timo to that list. He exploded in the 3rd OT and I feel was responsible for getting us and keeping the lead.

Totally agree. How do you know they won’t call it a shooting foul and give them
3 free throws? All the offensive player has to do is make some sort of wild flinging motion and you’re cooked. I think we played it right and just got Chris-Robertsed.

Good break down.

Did anyone else besides me have trouble getting stats on the Bradley site? I couldn't get the men's or women's stats to come up on my phone tonight.
I was bowling at the Christian Center tonight and my wife had the tablet with her so she could watch the game.
Done bowling as they went to 2nd OT.
We didn't leave until the game ended with a great win.
Didn't work for me either.

LOLOL - Chris Robertsed! Love it Dub!

Big Win on the road! I'm guessing that most home teams win overtime games! I listened on WMBD radio starting in Overtime. It was so Obvious how excited our announcers were! I believe for Bradley to have any chance in Arch Madness, these are the games on the road especially in 3OT that you need to win! It appears 5 good Valley teams now in conference 1-0 and Belmont 2-0, will compete for the top 4 coveted bye spots for Arch Madness! Some good team will be left out! I think last night's game was almost a must win for Bradley trying to secure a top 4 spot in the Conference. I'm much more excited about a good season after last night's win! I don't care if they win the Valley regular season title. I care they can win close games in Arch Madness to give themselves a legit chance at a top 4 seed and to win the tournament!
Starting this year the top 5 teams get a bye. The 4 plays the 5 on Friday.

IMO... and I am not complaining, since Bradley ended up winning, but with 1.2 seconds left, a team doesn't have time for a pass. So the player who catches the inbound pass will be the one who is going to take the shot. That gives the defense an advantage. The offensive team cannot run a play, set a pick, or easily get a wide open look, unless the shooter is totally unguarded. Yes, the team on defense must avoid fouling, but I think you have to at least put a player in the back-court to defend the shooter, or try to interfere with the shot or obscure the shooter's look at the basket, since he is heaving it from chest-level. I can live with an opponent making a 50-footer, but at least guard him.
And a completely unguarded shot from where the Indiana State player shot is not a 1 in 10,000 shot. Talented college players can probably make that shot 1-2% of the time, maybe more since the stats include all shots from beyond half court and many are much longer shots.
Here is what Google AI says-
1766177561526.png

NBA players make shots beyond half court 2.4% of the time, and these stats also include all shot attempts from beyond half court.- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-court_shot#:~:text=A half-court shot is,-point attempts (37%).

Heck, some fan in street clothes picked out of the Bradley crowd just made a half court shot at the last Bradley home game during a time-out promotion, and it happens fairly often.

I think every coach and player are aware that this will be the game plan. These players aren't standing still waiting for someone to foul them.
did you see the foul earlier in the game where the InSU player had just begin his dribble from the wing towards the basket, was at least 2 steps away from gathering and creating a shot - and was wrapped up by a Bradley defender, yet the ref instantly whistled and blew the foul in the act
and awarded 2 free throws. I was worried Wardle would get a T there, too. It was a bad call.

as Da Coach said, you know whoever receives the inbounds past will begin to shoot immediately - if you make any attempt to foul the guy
it's a high likelihood he'll be awarded 3 free throws..... I have no idea what the coaching staff planned but I suspect fouling the guy 70 feet from the hoop was not the thing they stressed in the huddle... My guess is that they expected a long 3/4 court pass and wanted our defenders to play hard and make sure nobody on their team caught it.

Because you foul him as soon as he catches the ball .
with some of the whacky phantom calls from the game last night... I can tell you in the moment I was nervous about the idea of fouling in case they claimed it was a shooting foul. "as soon as he catches the ball" can coincide with a shooting motion if you're skilled and see it coming. these refs were those kind of refs. just ask Timo.

at any rate, no use debating. we won, baby. had we lost, this conversation would be a blood sport.

It is a moot point yet the player that caught the pass was not in a shooting motion simply because he had to dribble once just to get enough momentum to shoot the ball from that distance. Just as soon as he caught that pass a foul should have been committed and it would not have been a shooting foul. I have seen teams consistently foul in the last 5 seconds of a game with a 3 point lead and none have them were called shooting ones.
