Bradley (17-9, 10-5, 3-5 in road games) at Southern Illinois (12-14, 5-9, 7-5 at home), Sunday, Feb. 15, 1:00 pm

For some reason, the ESPN+ schedule lists the game as 4:00 pm - https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/23910afb-8c93-46ee-9731-70f84eebae8d

SIU continiues as one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the country. They rank as the 4th worst 3-point FG% (362nd out of 365 teams)-

Their starters-
6'0" sophomore Jacksonville State transfer guard Quel'ron House, leads the team in scoring with a 14.3 ppg average, despite shooting only 24.3% from three.
6'9" sophomore forward Rolyns Aligbe is the 2nd leading scorer with 10.6 ppg, and he is the leading rebounder with 7.3 rpg, and the top 3-point shooter at 45.7%.
6'5" redshirt-sophomore guard Drew Steffe, who averages 9.7 ppg. He shoots 29.3% from three
6'3" senior guard Damien Mayo averages 8.7 ppg and shoots 38.6% from three
6'7" senior forward Prince Aligbe, a transfer from Seton Hall, averages 7.8 ppg, and 5.7 rpg. His 3-point FG% is 0.0% (0-14)
Reserves-
6'2" Redshirt-senior guard Isaiah Stafford, had been one of the top players off the bench for SIU earlier this season, but he has missed their last 10 games due to injury, and will be unlikely to play this Sunday.
6'4" freshman guard Jalen Haynes is their top scorer off the bench averaging 8.5 ppg, but his 3 point FG% is only 20.3% (13-64)
6'6" senior guard Davion Sykes averages 6'8 ppg off the bench. He is 0-4 from three this season.
6'11" redshirt-senior Jorge Moreno averages 3.1 ppg and 3.2 rpg off the bench.
7' sophomore forward Max Pikkar averages 2.1 ppg and 2.4 rpg off the bench

Stafford is out for the season, per their message board - they said the coaching staff announced it during the pregame of their last game.

To me this is a must win if we want to avoid the play in game. I think going 3-2 should do it. Going 4-1 and I think we'll finish no worse than 3rd and could probably finish 2nd. Murray St and ISU Red have tough games to finish the season. Murray hosts Belmont Sunday and Evansville on the 21st and goes to ISU Red on Wednesday and play here on March 1. The Redbirds have a tougher schedule as they go to UIC on Sunday, to us on the 21st and to UNI on the 25th. They host Murray on Wednesday and host Belmont on March 1. Besides hosting the Redbirds on Sunday and us on the 24th UIC also hosts Valpo on the 21st. They play at Evansville on Wednesday and visit ISU Blue on March 1. UNI hosts Drake on Sunday, hosts SIU on the 21st and the Redbirds on the 25th. They play at ISU Blue on Wednesday and at Drake on March 1. The UIC and ISU Red games are big in that we've already lost to each team so winning those games will keep us ahead of them in the standings.

SIU is a team that Bradley should probably play a little more zone defense against. As I noted above, they are nearly the worst 3-point shooting team in the country (362nd out of 365 teams in D1). They also rank extremely low in 3-point field goals attempted (353 out of 365), so their coaches realize this and they don't attempt many threes. The other teams that rank extremely low in 3-point percentage are horrible teams. But SIU is a decent team. They are around .500, and nearly all their losses have been close. They lost to Bradley earlier in Peoria by only 4 points (BU won 73-69). They come into Sunday's game having won 3 of their last 4, one of them a win in Normal against Illinois State.
Second year SIU head coach Scott Nagy is a great coach, and he realizes he doesn't have shooters, and I'm sure he'll recruit to correct that. His teams at Wright State were very good 3-point shooting teams (he had Alex Huibregtse among other good shooters). So their game plans revolve around getting shots closer to the basket and focusing on defense and rebounding. They are a good rebounding team considering they don't have dominating inside players either. So Bradley's 2-3 zone defense seems like a good option.

Should play zone against most of these poor shooting Valley teams yet our coach likes to play man 90% of the time. I look at that as him being old school.

Did we ever find out game time tomorrow for sure 1 or 4
start.
!
I'm pretty sure it's 1:00 pm, since Bradley and SIU schedules show 1:00 pm, as do the pregame articles by both schools.

... even ESPN's schedule page for Sunday shows 1:00 pm-

But I have no explanation why the ESPN+ "Upcoming" streaming schedule shows 4:00 pm. Maybe they know something nobody else knows?

1 p.m. Bradley basketball men at SIU ESPN+
4 p.m. Bradley basketball women at SIU. ESPN+
Noon or 2 p.m. Bradley baseball at Bethune-Cookman (on YouTube, search for cateye baseball)--also Saturday at 5 p.m.

That explains the confusion over the 1:00 vs. 4:00 listing.
ESPN+ has the two games erroneously switched. They list the women's game at 1:00 pm and the men's game at 4:00 pm

Ladies play at 4pm

I would hope we've worked on some things during the past week off like defensive rebounding and post defense. We are giving teams way too many 2nd chances because we get too passive rebounding and we give up too many point blank shots because we have a hard time defending the pick and roll. It would certainly make our games a bit easier if we can improve in those 2 areas. Haven't heard anything in regards to Burch. Is he with the team and if he is does he play. Time is running out to get him back into the swing of things but at this point it's on him to change Brian's mind.

To me this game is a good indicator if we are getting closer to peaking or if we've reached it. A team u just gotta beat if u wanna finish Top 3 in a top-heavy and solid league like this year.

SIU home crowd ain't too rockus like it was 15-20 yrs ago. The 3-pt differential might be the difference between victory and defeat today.

SIU 2.5 pt favorite
The betting spread has moved to SIU -3.5 points-

Demarion Burch is listed as questionable for Bradley in the Initial Availability Report-

It will be interesting to see if that changes in the final Game-Day Update due out at 11:00 am Central.
