Finally got the JaShon that we need this year, and he showed up on both ends of the court.
Duke Deen looks to be a great ball handler and passer, and he can score too!
Darius is a dunk machine!
Malevy is our best scorer, but doesn't shoot enough.
Zek was solid on both ends of the court with his D being extremely solid.
Refs were eons better than in the Utah St. game - makes all the difference not to have someone blowing the whistle every 30 seconds. BU under BW has always been a team that needs continuity to get in a flow and we don't typically play as well when the refs are whistle happy.

EMU didn't seem to play much defense and their offense was a lot of one on one, but this is still a team that played Michigan to the wire, though they may have been suffering from adrenaline depletion after that game. Even if that's the case, BU came to play tonight.

Didn't realize how skinny Bates was until we saw him in person. His player card on ESPN lists him at 170 lbs. and 6'10" and I'd guess that's pretty accurate. When we could get a body on him, we manhandled him, but he did score pretty well in the 2nd when he wasn't doubled.

Big Mike - I think your comment about Malevy was dead on.

My hope is renewed as I was really concerned about our scoring potential after that Utah St. game. Let's hope this type of effort is the norm for our team.

Pretty impressive synopsis, Tommy! I'd add that when Rienk returns this team is legit 10 players deep.
 
Michigan must have had a off game if they allowed EMU to hang with them and Bates score 30. His 20 against BU was a third of EMU's entire point effort. Is he all they have?
 
Just some thoughts about individuals to this points (only after 3 games):

Ja'Shon on a mission. He has looked great in the 2 home games. HIs short turnaround J looks smoother!
Darius - very glad to see his vast improvement on both ends!
Malevy - steady stat stuffer as usual
Connor - off to a slow start and needs to slow down a little - hoping he doesn't have the typical sophomore slump like we've seen many times. He is the X-factor. When he has a good game, BU's chances to wins rise immensely.

Pop - I really like his game. Thought he and Duke would pretty much split time. I hope he gets 15 min per game. Good b-ball IQ.
Duke - Impressed by his game - very quick, yet in control, and can score. Has not disappointed!
Zek - This kid's potential is high; like top 10 MVC players high (by next year). Smooth stroke and can score in more ways that anyone else;
he should be one of our better 3-pt shooters (along with Leons, Hickman, Ville); Defense has improved too

Ville - Shooting better so far. When he makes 3 or more, BU usually wins. Slow as molasses on D. LOL
Goanar - Nice athletic big, but needs more experience at this level. Should make more impact next season, and with Reink's imminent return, will not get much P.T. likely.
 
Though we shot 5-10 from behind the arc in the 1st half, the 2nd half was a different story. We HAVE to get better in our perimeter shooting or we won't contend for the MVC title. The poor 3-pt shooting on the road last year cost us a few games.

When Connor and Malevy connected from 3 last night in the 1st half, it gave us the separation we needed and the mojo to pull away.
 
Thanks for the comprehensive update on the game last night, Da Coach! The history on the rivalry was interesting too :). I was wondering if an estimated return for Rienk Mast is available?

I have not heard anything new recently. The injury occurred October 24, and the original projection was 4-8 weeks. 4 weeks would be early next week (Monday, Nov. 21 is 4 weeks). 8 weeks would be Dec. 19.
I'm sure they will be cautious, and not rush him back.
The original timetable would have him back for sure by the Dec. 28 Belmont game (9 weeks and 2 days after injury) and maybe by the Dec. 22 Akron game or the Dec. 19 Stonehill game (exactly 8 weeks after injury).
It would be nice if he could return for the Dec. 17 game at Arkansas. That game is 2 days short of 8 weeks after his injury. But this is all speculation by me. He looked pretty good with a normal gait walking around last night, so maybe he will be able to return closer to 4 weeks, rather than 8 week.
 
I thought Bradley played how they potentially are capable of playing. The score could have been a lot worse than it was. I thought they missed a lot of easy layups
 
Remember Emoni Bates, the 6'9" player at Eastern Michigan who was at one time the #1 rated recruit in the country. He flamed out at Memphis, and is having a pretty good season at Eastern Michigan, averaging 19.3 ppg, though Eastern Michigan is just 4-15 on the season.

EMU stayed close to Toledo for the first half, but the story is that Emoni Bates scored 29 of Eastern Michigan's 35 first half points, including the final 29 straight points of the first half. The streak was broken when teammate Noah Farrakhan made the first points of the 2nd half.

The record is 54 consecutive points with no teammate scoring by Bill Mlkvy of Temple University in 1951.
EMU is now ahead of Toledo 57-49, and Bates has 39 points with about 12 minutes left in the game.

Bates scored 29 of EMU's 35 first half points. As bad as EMU is this year, the worst in the MAC, how much worse could they have been if Bates had been prohibited from playing because of his arrest before the season started? I guess it was assumed, before the season started, that he would carry the team on his shoulders. EMU is so bad, he can't even do that, despite how good he is at the game.
