Bradley is 5-2 after going 1-1 at the Fort Myers Tip-Off. They play Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 8 pm in the FedEx Forum in downtown Memphis, just off Beale Street.

Memphis is 6-1, and they have won 4 straight games since their only defeat at Oregon. They are 5-0 at home this season, and they were 18-3 at home last season. In the American Athletic Conference preseason poll, they were tied for the #1 pick with Houston. Memphis freshman James Wiseman was picked unanimously as The American Athletic Conference Preseason Rookie of the Year.
As we have discussed elsewhere, Memphis will be playing without James Wiseman, their star player, who was the #1 recruit in the country for 2019, and is predicted to be the #1 overall NBA draft pick next June. He is suspended by the NCAA because his family received impermissible benefits- $11,500 cash, from 2nd year Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway.
But even without Wiseman, Memphis is a big, talented team. Their top 5 scorers are freshmen, lead by 6'9" freshamn Precious Achiuwa, who averages 15.0 ppg & 8.7 rpg, and is playing center in place of Wiseman.
4 of their players are former high school teammates of Bradley freshman guard Antonio Thomas- James Wiseman, Alex Lomax, Malcolm Dandridge, and Ryan Boyce all played at Memphis East HS.
They shot 8-12 (67%) on three pointers in their last game, a 83-78 win over North Carolina State on Thursday, 11/28. However, in their other 6 games, they were were not nearly as good from three (30.5%). Their starting point guard Damien Baugh, averaging 5.0 ppg and 4.3 apg, was a Bradley recruit-

Bradley has played Memphis (formerly Memphis State) 20 times previously, but only twice in the last 31 years. 12 of those previous matches occurred while Memphis was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference from the 1967-68 season through the 1972-73 season (Bradley went 6-6 against Memphis in those 6 seasons).
Memphis has won the last 4 matches- the final two games of a 2 for 1 series in the 1986-87, 1987-88, and 1988-89 seasons, the Sweet 16 matchup in Oakland in March, 2006, and a buy-game/blowout loss by Geno Ford's final team in Memphis in Dec. 2014.

What are our expectations for this game? A win here would be amazing but Memphis is obviously a very good team even without Wiseman. For me, I'd be happy as long as we keep the game within 10 points.
 
No moral victories. We play to win the game. Nice homecoming and moment for DBJ no matter what thats the best part/story for me. Its our best shot to spotlight ourselves and our conference. If we are who I think we are , we win this thing. Play our best D of the yr and score just enough. Be within 7 or 8 or better with 9 mins to go and give yourself a shot. Go BU.
 
Yes, I want the Bradley team that played last Wednesday, not the team that played last Monday. :)
 
We are obviously better playing with the underdog mentality. NWestern game. Kstate. MichSt. Being able to turn the corner and dominate from an attitude of being the favorite and exerting your will... that’s another level we haven’t reached. I expect a good, fighter’s mentality on Tuesday and execution to match.
 
hree points....

(1) I agree if Bradley can play like they did against Kansas State and even up a notch or 2 (hint hint Darrel and Elijah) like they did against Michigan State last March - then it will be an extremely interesting game.

(2) I attached a picture of Memphis's basketball roster. Holy Cow - 7 freshmen (2 red shirt), 2 sophomores (2 red shirt) and 1 senior. In my view - Memphis's Young Athletic Talent verses Bradley's Team Play. That in my view is one reason why Chicago Loyola went so far in the 2018 NCAA tournament. These power conference teams rely heavily on their talent and never learned the finer details of team play - none of them are around long enough to truly learn their teammates court habits. So we will see.

(3) Phoooeyyyy - the game is on CBS Sports Network - the one channel I do not receive at my home. I'll then be at a nearby sports bar and unable to "chat" with all of you on the chat board as "Steve".

As a side note: I was a Bradley student when Bradley beat Gene Bartow's Memphis State Tigers in 1973 - and later Memphis State was a Final 4 team in the NCAA.

This is obviously going to be a very tough one. Memphis is very young and athletic. The crowd is loud.

I agree we need to play tough and "angry" as we did against K-State but I also think

1) We need to keep our heads about us. An emotional, loud environment cannot lead to silly fouls or stupid Technicals.

2) Also this is a game where DB gets to come home to Memphis (as does Antonio) and play against his godfather (Penny). They need to play their game and stay in their role-don't try to do too much.

I know we like to play up tempo but running with Memphis is a scary thought so we will have to see what the game plan looks like.

Hey "Steve" as long as you have your cell phone you'll be able to join the conversation in the Chat room. Hopefully the message that was given between the Northwestern and Kansas State games has been retained for this game and for the rest of this season. Play hard and smart on both ends can certainly help compete against a better team. Memphis has size which can give us fits so we really need to rebound. DB needs to lead and try to play hero ball in his hometown. Can we win? I'm sure the guys in the visiting locker room believe that and that's good enough for me.
 
Go_Braves, if you want to save some money and skip the sports bar get a free trial on youtube tv which has cbs sports network and then cancel. I see youtube tv is offering 3 week free trial currently. I "cut" the tv cord about a year ago and really like youtube tv much better than traditional cable or dish in many aspects. Lots of sports channels available on youtube tv.

As far as tonights game I am a bit worried about the size and athleticism of Memphis. Hopefully we come with a lot of fight and make it close or pull of something big. Tough and pesky Braves better show up!!
 
One piece of news regarding Memphis that could be a slight benefit to Bradley-- In addition to playing without leading scorer and rebounder James Wiseman, who is on NCAA suspension, Memphis will be playing without another starter tonight. Starting guard Lester Quinones (6'5" freshman), will be out with a broken hand-

Quinones had started Memphis' first 6 games, but injured the hand prior to their last game against North Carolina State and missed that game. He will be out for 3-6 weeks. Memphis won the game even without Wiseman and Quinones. Quinones was averaging 10.3 ppg, 3.5 rpg, and 3.0 assists per game. He was replaced in their starting lineup last game by freshman D.J. Jeffries, a 6'7" freshman who is averaging 12.6 ppg.

Bad game for the 3 seniors to have off games.
Terrible game for Darrell Brown (1-16 shooting, 0-8 from three).
Bad game by Kennell (1-8 overall, and 0-4 from three) and Bar (0-6, 3 rebounds, 2 turnovers).
Great game by Elijah Childs (21 points, 14 rebounds).
Decent games by Kingsby, Henry, Boya, & Thomas.
Bradley outrebounded Memphis 55-47, and BU had a phenomenal 23 offensive rebounds.
And BU had only 7 turnovers for the game. Memphis was averaging 18.6 turnovers forced per game.
But poor shooting prevented any chance of an upset.
Bradley shot 26.8% (22-82) overall, 8.7% (2-23) from three, and 55.6% (10-18 ) on FTs.
Unusual stat- Bradley had 82 shot attempts! But they were just 22-82 shooting.
 
Honestly I’m surprised. Could have had this game with a decent shooting night. I thought we’d get manhandled on the glass and we were solid. I’m sick for DB. Again Bar hurt us at a critical juncture, but he stays as a second half starter...same strategy with Bar as early season last year. Again with Bar on the bench Eli goes off. I’m confused on how we are using Bar.
All in all good game plan and execution. Shake it off and win out in the noncon.
 
Horrible shooting night for both teams. Had we made just a few more threes we would have made it quite the game. Childs had a great game, but we really lacked production from our seniors.
 
One of the worst games I’ve ever seen played by Kennell and Brown.Terrible shooting and just out of sync! They have an average game and we probably win...
 
The thing I always point out to people when they say how many offensive rebounds a team gets is, you can only rebound misses. We get lots of o-boards because we are a bad shooting team. We can still win and be competitive, but we need to find ways to generate easy shots. Could be a long year on that side of the court.
