The bottom line is, whether Burch and Atlason (as freshmen) are struggling or not, we have nobody else due to the transfer portal mess this year. Linke, Hardtke, and Meta cannot play crucial minutes near the end of the year. Two of those guys are clearly never going to give you much of anything on the court at this point in their careers, and the other needs to improve foot speed quite a bit or he will be in the same boat. You have seven players you have to rely on for better or worse. Sitting two of them puts us in a horrible spot.
 
If Thomas can't redshirt he should be playing. one minute he is playing and contributing and then all of a sudden he is benched and never used. Doesn't make sense. No wonder this team is on a roller coaster ride
 
I have completely given up on Jonovic. He is too slow for this level of basketball. I don't know why Thomas is being kept on the bench. I thought he was showing hugely more potential than Jonovic. I barely kept from shouting at the TV with all the playing time Jonovic got today. And only three minutes from Burch? Whatever he did to get in the doghouse, I will be surprised if Burch sticks around after this season. He is too good to sit on the bench,, and he will simply go elsewhere to play.

I have been a big admirer of Ben Jacobson for years. Always been surprised he has stayed at UNI this long. He can see we struggle when teams play us physical, so he has his guys play us physical. We are tall, We are long. We are not strong and physical, Hickman excepted.

I rarely voice my frustration after loses. Rant complete.
 
We have to be the worst 1st half team in the Country since Jan 1st. Tired players because we’re STILL “teaching tough love” lessons in mid-February. It takes a lot of energy to come back from 20 down. Very tough to do with a 7 man rotation. Especially when one can’t catch a post pass. Malevy has fouled out in the last 2 games. We’re usually peaking and playing consistently good defense at this point. This year the only constant is a double digit halftime deficit every other game. Remaining schedule is tough. Thursday here we come.
 
Is something going on with the team? They started out the season playing better and have gotten worse since then. They come out with no energy or drive..Liket they dont care. Last week they had a team meeting and have been playing terrible since. Is there dissension on the team? No team chemistry. Has Wardle lost this team?
 
We're down to the last two weeks of the season. If we can't play them by now, might as well leave them home and save the hotel expense.
 
Totally agree. That's a lame comment at best. We need to adjust to the more physical play or we will be going home early in st Louis

Well here is my take..."how did that work out?"
Burch will at least get a couple of assists and 6-8 pts....Atlason will get you 4-6 pts, and IMO is not a center, more of a 4!:? Hardtke zero pts and a couple fouls plus he cannot guard anyone atheletic!:oops: Meta plays like he is 6'5 bringing every ball he gets down to his waist "down to be stripped " as Coach Stowell would say.:idea: Put Thomas in who is a center and can pass and get some rebounds!:idea: Also saw Burch get lost on an open 3 by UNI, Wardle called Time Out and came onto court hollering at Burch.....I knew he was done.:-o:idea::idea:
 
Burch does make a lot of mistakes but he also creates alot for the team as well. When it is physical he welcomes it and can go get a bucket. He reminds me of a young version of Terrance Shannon. You get some bad with a player like that but he creates so many plays for his team with his athleticism. You have to take the good with the bad and let him be who he is. Burch is a true talent and we have all seen how dynamic he is.
 
Thing is with the tour. coming up soon it is not getting the players ready to contribute in it by not playing them. I know Wardle is a tough coach but to me he has kind of lost it this season by his actions with the players when a mistake is made on the court. Our young guys are afraid of making a mistake and coming out of the game which in turn will hurt production. The top 8 players on the team that give us the best chance at winning are Deen, Hickman, Leons, Hannah, Davis, Burch, Atlason and Thomas. I remember way back when Hodgson was playing in front of Lundy which was hard to understand and now I see the same thing in playing Meta over Thomas. To me producing more in games then practice is more important.
 
If you as a coach are still trying to teach lessons 27 games into the season you have a major problem. Caitlin Clark had 12 turnovers the other night but the coach knows what she has with her in what she creates for her teammates. She made several poor turnovers early but righted the ship and did her thing which won the game. Players need to trust their coach but the coach also needs to trust his players to play through it and if you are working on the right things in practice the good will overcome the bad. That's how a player gains confidence and grows. I don't see that with bu right now. Thats what is frustrating
 
The lesson here is we can’t keep getting hit in the mouth early. Poor play by the team and coach first 15mins of the game. Duke and Conner have to get to the rim to free up space. They did that second half but it’s to late in the game to make the difference. Yes, they were hit pushed and reached in on. Time to use those guys on the bench for a nice pick up top to let those guys know you are going to pay for hitting our guys. Wardle talks about playing perfect but knows it’s not possible. We have to adjust faster in the game coaches aren’t doing it right now either. Hit the reset button and find what works because this isn’t it lately.
 
I taped the game and turned it off when Bradley got down 25-11.

Bradley was down about 20 at the half. Made a furious come back and got back to within 5-6, then faded down the stretch and lost by 10.
