Final score: UIC 85 Bradley 70

We won 28 games LAST season. Are we suddenly Duke or North Carolina where we are wanting a new coach after a season we still might get close to or at 20 wins?

I was disappointed in the loss but the reactions here are a tad bit off the deep end to even suggest that Wardle would even have a lukewarm seat.
I agree. I think it’s way too early to be looking for a new coach. He’s been very successful in his time here. And if they get rid of him, who are they going to replace him with? Finding a coach of the highest caliber for a program at our level is no different than finding the type of player that gets recruited by top 25 teams. And if we did find a better coach, how long would he stay? Want us to end up like Drake? Get into the NCAA tournament one year, then bolt?

I agree also. Wardle is in somewhat of a rebuilding year what with losing 4 very experienced seniors and playing with Freshmen and Sophomores as your go to players. I like the players coming in next year and to match them with I hope key players to come back. It should be a god year next year

He also lost a significant part of his coaching staff.

Who would you say? Thankfully all the seniors will be gone.
I'm sad that Kai Yu isn't playing anymore - I think he has a big upside with more playing time.

Are DR and MZ really that good? I don't see much from them when they play - granted they haven't played much, but they don't look ready for D-I mid-major hoops.
Kai Yu is another project that is not ready now to play at this level. Our front line minus Timo is why we cannot beat good teams. We have 4 seniors that are terrible at putting the ball in the hole and are poor defenders and rebounders. The guards have to play really well in order for us to win. The good thing is the guards are young and are the future but we need a wing and a center that can score, rebound and defend. We have lost a lot of talented players these last several seasons and their replacements quite frankly have not been good.

Again every year is a rebuilding one do to NIL. I am not at the point of wanting to change coaches just need this staff to recruit better players. I doubt any of the UIC players get paid all that much plus they have zero fan base which makes it really disturbing that they were able to secure more athletic basketball players then us.

How many years did Geno get before he was sent packing? Dumping an excellent coach after what will be another 20 win season would be the very definition of insanity.

I totally agree with you.No such thing as a rebuilding year anymore with NIL.I think Coach Wardle needs to rethink how he recruits. In my opinion you have to recruit like no player is returning. You are not going to keep most players for 4 Years!!

You'd be surprised how much UIC is paying some of their guys.

It is nice to work with tax dollars.

Can schools pay NIL money?
The House settlement established the ability for schools to "revenue share" meaning schools can pay their athletes up to 20.5 million in revenue share. This comes straight from the schools. Schools can decide how much, if anything, they share with athletes and across what sports up to that capped number.

Most schools that have football are allocating the vast majority of that cap to football. The average is probably around 75% to football, 20% to basketball, and 5% to the other sports. No mid major teams are anywhere close to sharing 20.5 million of course. Not all the P4 schools even do that.

UIC has no football and I doubt UofI shares money with them. So how much more money does UIC pay their players compared to Bradley?
Since Bradley is a private school then what you seem to be saying is they will never be able to compete against the public ones because of tax payer money.

Wardle's radio interview with Chad and Dave indicated that he was resigned to acknowledge that this team is deficient in several areas (which all opposing coaches know) and there is little than he can do to remedy it this season. I think that is why he didn't even bother to call time outs. He stated that he needs a better team for next year. I am not sure if I want to go to St Louis for the tournament this year. It was a real bummer watching this game tonight.
I’ve never seen a coach throw in the towel mid conference season with a 14-8 7-4 conf record. His body language and lack of enthusiasm showed during the game that he’d given up. Sad. If the coach gives up what’s that say to the team. He’s paid upper level 6 figures to do a job not give up.

The politicians helped to create this mess. They opened it up for them to get paid but did not put a cap on it. Now it is like the wild west out there. Anytime you get politicians involved they will screw up a wet dream

So,we have 2 ,5 foot 8 players, and a 3 point shooter,,,that leaves 2 rebounders, and we have the 7 footer 15 to 20 feet from the basket,,, can someone explain how we are going to get rebounds..my question is how have we Not capitalized on the
Last few seasons…recruiting wise..seems like the conference has figured out how to stop the little guys..

So UIc being a public institution, is there any record of how tax dollars are spent?
