wait - that's not correct. If you play even one minute in any game, you are not eligible for a redshirt.
What you are referring to with the 30% rule and not past midseason- is eligibility for a Medical Waiver - sometimes also called a medical redshirt.
But there needs to be a season ending injury, which Meta never had.
At the time Meta arrived, there was no such rule to allow him a redshirt year having played those 6 games. But NCAA is now softening rules,
so that in football (as of 2024) you can play up to four games, and still take that season as a redshirt year and not have those games count against

I don't believe however, that there is any such allowance in basketball at this time, but who knows- maybe it's coming.
